I re-checked my balance and it hit it dead on where the plans say. The funny thing is the drawings show the CG about 1/2" behind the main spar. Frank, I've talked to a few others who said to balance it right on the main spar too. So I'm going to balance it there. I had already moved the battery as far forward as I could and the receiver as well. The only thing left to move forward would be the servos. I think if I moved them up it would be about right. Only problem is the way I ran the solid pushrods I can't really move the servos.

8178 I had the same feelings about the 40 but it just seemed to be so much easier and I thought it would be worth a shot. At this point I'm sure I wouldnt' be happy with the 40 on there for very long. I'm also sure the 61 will bring the balance right in. So I'm gonna mount it. I'll need to get a few things, new motor mount, new fuel tank, and muffler.

I didn't get my laptop yet so no video just yet. I'm on my way out of town now so I'll try and get it on before the weekend ends.

Status: offline 		Decades ago when I was flying Jensen Sticks I’d move the CG way back to help with snapping maneuvers. The wing area is so big and wing loading is so light it is hard to get it to stall and spin. At any rate I’d keep moving it back until it was hard to hold a steady heading on a slow landing approach and then I knew I’d gone back far enough. They are fun to fly and I have fond memories of them.

Status: offline 		Ok, I got her re-balanced and pending good weather I'll try her again on Wednesday!

I don't have a muffler for my Super Tigre 61,. I used it on my pattern birds and have a tune pipe for it. I thought i could get a muffler cheap but I was wrong! So I re-balanced with the 40 and we'll try her out. In the mean time I'm gonna watch e-bay for a muffler.

Stay tuned..............AGAIN!

Status: offline 		Well Wednesday has come and gone! What an intersting night! The rebalance worked and she flys ok. The roll is real slow. I need to increase the aileron travel.

I still think she is underpowered and I'm going to keep working on finding a muffler for my .61. There was a fair amount of wind blowing and I forgot to set my timer. Well, I ran out of fuel and the motor shut off, guess where.......Down wind!!!! I actually got her over the runway but needed to continue a right turn to get her on the ground. I was a bit afraid of the right turn because of the pit area so I made a "bad" choice and tried the left turn. Well, I did what my "real" flight instructor always taught. I continued to fly the airplane! She missed a tree by a few incheds then went down over the hill and I couldn't see her anymore. So I continued to fly the aeroplane. After what seemed like a long long long time I turned off the radio and we went a looking. I found her sitting perfect on all three wheels and not so much as a scratch anywhere!!!

The balance is now at the back end of the main spar and everything is looking good. I need more power though. I'm gonna keep working on a muffler for the Super Tigre. But I'm flying now!!!

My wife took a few pictures. She got some decent shots considering I didn't give her much to photograph. Here they are,

Hey Alex, I think I just married a good girl!! (Hope she reads this!) Really, she doesn't have much fun there but she is an amatuer photographer and loves anything to do with taking pictures.........So I just "begged" for pictures and it turned out to be pretty easy to get her to come! My two boys are also pretty small and they love to come along. When I'm flying someone has to watch them so she comes along. I must admit, I usually give in and go shopping or something in exchange. But try the camera angle. Get your wife interested in photography and then wooo her out with the picture thing! It seems to work. I do expect when the boys get bigger and don't need to be watched she probably won't be coming out much.

I'm still working on getting the 61 on the nose. I only got 6 minutes or so on an 8 oz tank with the 40. That seems pretty short doesn't it??

Status: offline 		Pretty neat idea Wayne. It looks like you need at least part of the muffler though. I don't even have a part. But it looks like something to try someday.

I've got an O.S. 61 muffler. I might try making an adapter plate to try and use it on my Super Tigre. The O.S. was lost in a radio glitch long ago. I have pieces of it left.

Status: offline 		I just found something I never had happen before........I was having some trouble with the engine running properly when I rolled. Not all the time just once in a while. It also seemed like it was running out of fuel too fast. I knew I put the tank together right and the klunk wasn't sticking. But I just pulled the hatch off to see how big a tank I could get in for the 61 and found something odd. The line inside the tank was curled around forward and the klunk was stuck in the front of the tank. No amount of shaking would shake it loose to the back. I pulled it apart and it went back where it's supposed to be and I can't shake it back into that forward position.

Has anyone ever seen this happen before? Is there maybe too much pressure from my exhaust that is blowing it forward??

Also, what size tank are you guys using in your DUS's with a .61. It looks like a 14 will be pretty tight.

A standard tank clunk set up will sometime fold forward on a very hard landing.

To avoid this, cut the fuel tubing 1/2 way between the tank entrance and the clunk (the fuel pickup line). Then slide a brass tube inside both sides of the cut so you have about 1 inch brass tube going into the fuel tube each side of the cut.

This will allow the fuel clunk line to move around the tank freely, but due to the stiff brass tube 1/2 way down in the fuel pickup line, it can not fold forward.

Wayne is on the money with this one. A hard landing, (or crash) is the most common cause of this problem. (Remember, I’m an expert at crash landings!!!!) The brass tubing works well, and I always install it right from the get go. But I still check it after every rough landing. (Which is most all of them for me.)

Guess that's why it's new to me.........I never had a hard landing before......... (is my nose growing).....

Actually just after I hit send on that post I remembered the sight unseen deadstick down over the bank.......It was sitting on all three wheels without a scratch to be seen anyplace. But that doesn't mean it didn't hit pretty hard....I feel much better now. I thought the klunk just got twisted up. I'm sure it was that dead stick. It touched the ground over the bank where i couldn't see and I'll be it hit harder than it looked.

An 8 oz tank with that 40 should give me about 12 minutes or more of flight time, shouldn't it?
