I've decided to build a plane to carry a digital camera and use wireless video to help frame the shots. I've been flying using wireless video on a Twinstar II but last year I mounted a digital camera to the Twinstar and got decent results, mounting the digital camera to the plane was less than satisfactory though so I decided on a purpose built plane. I've designed this one from the ground up so I hope it flys. I modeled it loosely after the STOL Wilga. It will have 540 sq. inches of wing area (60 inch span x 9 inch chord). The wing has been cut from foam and will have a carbon rod spar with fiberglass skin over the foam. It uses a high lift NACA 6412 section. The fuselage is roughly 40 inches length and is built up construction. I plan on puting an AXI 281412 in it for power, two TP2100s in parallel, a CC 35 amp speed control, and use a combination of HS81s and HS55s for control. The digital camera is a Nikon and the wireless set-up is Blackwidow AV. The camera will have 90 degree tilt capability. Here are some pictures.

You R doing a lot of work in the fuzz to save weight, and then cover the wing in 'fiberglass'????....and I would sheet the sides around the camera bay with thin ply ..... My 2bobs worth

Will 1/2 oz fiberglass add a lot of weight? I was planning on using that Minwax polyurethane (?) instaed of epoxy resin. I read in here where guys do that on foamys so it doesn't seem like it would add a lot of weight. What is the "fuzz"?

If you want it durable, glass it. Fuzz is a slang for fuselage. Not sure what a fuselarge is.

It's been a while but the building has progressed. It is almost complete. AUW should be about 3 - 3.5 lbs.

Here are some more photos, this time from the air, the plane flies great, slow and stable (good for aerial photo work). It gets to altitude quick. It is roomy in the nose section, I'm flying two TP 2100 packs and can fly for about 20 minutes. Would be very easy to put two more packs in and fly for about 40 minutes.

That is Excellent. Do you have more photos of the build? What did you end up doing with the main wing? What was you AUW?

Ryan

The AUW is approximately 45 oz. The main wing has a carbon rod almost the entire span, then it has a 3" medium weight fiberglass strip full span on the top and bottom, then the whole wing is covered with lightweight fiberglass cloth top and bottom full span and chord. I do not worry about it breaking and have not seen it flex any. Here are a few more pictures.
