Would someone please tell me what the difference between the Extra 300 and Extra 330 are, as well as what the different letters mean?

Extra 300
Extra 330S
Extra 330L
and any other version that is out there?

I see these mentioned so often but do not know what makes them different?

Thanks

I have noticed that the 300S has a shoulder wing and the 300L has a low wing....could the S mean shoulder and the L mean low? I dont know.....Ive been told that it is simply a designation letter like a VIN digit on your car. The 300L is a two seater also and the S version is a single seat. The 300 simply means it has a "300hp" Lycoming engine.....now there are Extra 330's too with 330hp......Im curious myself to how many opinions you get here.....good luck

The 300S is the single seater with 300HP. The 330L is the two seater with 330HP. There is no difference in the wing location between the two.

I do not know specifically what S and L stand for. Since they're German planes I doubt it's short and long. Maybe someone knows the answer to this.

Here are links to the specs on both planes:

The Extra 300 is a two seat 300 hp aerobat. The original was a midwing (like the Goldberg Extra 300). The Extra 300S was a further refinement which lowered the wing closer to the bottom of the fuselage. A later refinement was the L model which lowered the wing even more. As to the 330, I believe the hp was raised to 330. There is also an Extra 200 which is a two acro trainer with 200 hp.

There was a 230 for sure, and a 260 I think...not sure on the 260, that could be another plane I'm thinking of.

There Are several models of the extra they are as follows.

230, I've not seen one so don't know what it looks like. I think it is similar to the later 260. With the mid wing and had 230Hp motor.

260, It's a shoulder wing with a 260 hp motor. See my avitar. The Troybuilt site has a photo of Patty's 260. Avitar is a Troy Built Extra 260.

300 special. It looks like the 260 only with a 300 hp motor.

300s, a single place 300 hp with a low wing. Cardens web site has a good photo with Patty's plane and their kit.

300L, a 2 place 300 hp with a low wing. The Great Planes 330L has a good scale like apperance.

The 330S and 330L are the standard 300S and 300L with 330 hp motors and a different tail group. The movable surfaces are bigger. I'm not sure if the whole tail is bigger as well or just the control surface.

200 apears to be a 300L with a smaller 200hp motor.

I will post a couple of pics of some of the real ones.

Here is a pic of a 330L note the propeller is a 4 Blade and not a 3 blade as on the other planes and the 200 only has a 3 blade prop. More prop for more power
