JohnRC-RCU -> yet another battery question (2/11/2003 2:07:15 PM)

If the maH and voltage are both the same, would it matter if I used AAA instead of AA batteries? This would be for a Futaba radio.

Thanks!

The TX would work but you would have to find a way to pad the pack so the batterys didn't bang around. The AAA pack would be smaller than the AA pack.

Although the current capacity would be the same, the rate of discharge would differ. The smaller (AAA) cells cannot output their charge as fast as the larger (AA) cells. This won't make much difference in your transmitter, but in plane, this could cause your servos to get insufficient current when moving more than one servo at a time, under load, like aerobatic manouvers. If you are planning to use them for electric powered aircraft, this will become even more of an issue.

This might expain why I get better results with SC packs compared to AA packs.
Thanks

A general rule of thumb I've read repeatedly - the thicker the battery, the faster it can dump it's charge. I think I even saw Red quote this rule of thumb once.

Do SC or C cells come in 2700maH capacity?

Using Sanyo's spec-search site (http://www.sanyo.com/batteries/specs.cfm), the highest capacity NiCd Sub-C seems to be the KR-2300SCE, highest capacity NiMH Sub-C seems to be the RC-3000HV, and the highest capacity NiCd C-size seems to be the N-3000CR. I didn't see any C-size NiMH.
