Hey Guys, Great discussion. Could one of you describe for me the "soak it in CA" step? Are you literally dipping the prop in thin CA or ??? And.. when sanding, are you trying to create an airfoil shape on the back or is it a flat shape at the proper pitch angle?

The back side is in fact flat. Soaking in C/A is exactly right. Take a piece of 1"ID PVC tubing about 3 1/2 " long and glue a plate on one end. Fill the tube with thin C/A and dip one blade at a time for 30 to 60 seconds. Wipe clean with a paper towel and let cure. when done sand with 400 and do again but for just an instant. Again wipe clean and sand with 400 again then 600 and Mothers, If it dosn't look well coated repeat until you are sure it is coated. You also can use this technique to balance by the additive method. Add a coating to the light side rather than sand the heavy side. This C/A treatment will protect the wood and add great stiffness.

I stopped by the hobby store and bought out their 8x7 zinger props, I think they had 6 of them. The hub is thinner, can't wait to get started.

What length do you leave the props at?

I was thinking keeping the lighter pitchs at 7 5/8", medium at 7 1/2", and lighter pitches at 7 3/8"

This is for the LS motor.

Thanks,

I think Craig cut his Zingers to 7 3/8" long. Then tune for the RPM you desire.

Is there a chance some one could post the article mentioned early in this thread?

If you're talking about the May '99 M A article...I found it in the AMA site archives. It took some work, but I finally dug enough to find it. You have to put in your AMA # and register, but you can access just about any article in the M A back issues that you want.

I bought a 6 pack of Zinger 8 X 7's...
Next step to get 'er done will be to find a pitch guage?

I see one mentioned on Darrol Cady's site, but there's no price...they might be hard to get? Prather's site is being modified, or under re-construction?

What about the Edmunds one?

Prather is closing their doors and you probably won't be able to get any of their gauges. I got an Edmunds pitch gauge from Darrol and it is nice (I prefer it over the Prather).

Thanks Tony...
I sent Darrol an e-mail just a little while ago, and asked about a few other things as well.
I think I will get the template and some blanks (they look like Rev-Up's?) too.

Proptop,

I checked that May 99' article, which looks good, but I don't think its the one Tom meant.

The May 99' was authored by Duane Gall (RCU's DHG), I'm still trying to locate the Vern Smith Article.

No luck finding it on the AMA website.

If anyone has access I would love to see it.

Thanks,

I am pretty sure Grunk said it was in the NMPRA newsletter from that time. I will make sure. This was when Vern was President.

Ahh, that makes sense Tom.

Unfortunately, I don't believe they were in the digital age then....
