Hey, Guys. Just upgraded from a Blade CP to my 1st T-Rex 450. Just finished my first test runs after building and got my 1st whopping 4" hover. Need some new servos though. These cheapies they sent with the package don't center very well, so I was all over the controls. Any suggestions? I'm running the Hitech Eclipse 7 radio with the 6 ch Rx (also part of the package). Other than having to constantly correct, it was pretty sweet. This thing is so much more intense than the CP/ CPP (of course that will always be my 1st love).

Anyway just wanted to intro myself, and say I look forward to picking your brains since I'm in a whole new world now.

Thanks,

whtmex (Chad)

You can try sub trim in your TX first to center the servos. For a Trex most people are using hitec 65mg or hb version on cyclic and a futaba 9650 or 3154 for the tail if running digital mode on a 401.

Hi Chad,
I agree with Scott.
3x Hitec HS65 for cyclic.
Hitec HS65 for the tail if your budget is tight. If you have a gyro that supports digital, and a bigger budget, the Futaba 9650 servo for the tail is great.

which servos were you using?

Yes the 65's are very nice... I had all digital 285's in mine....

many people confuse "non-centering servos" with ball links that aren't free.....
I've helped people set up heli's who complained that the servos sucked, when actually all of their ball links were so tight that no good servo would work well....

check your ball links

I have the Hitech 55's on M/R controls with the 56 on the Tail servo. I work on real heli's for a living, so I have access to some cool products, so all ball links have Aviation grade silicon lube on them. When I put inputs in it snaps, just really slow in returning to center. It seems to be working better with the sub-trim adjusted. I'll still probably get a better flight pack eventually, this was just something to get me going for now. The biggest hurdle has been figuring out the Tx. It's been years since I've been into RC, so all this digital stuff is kind of confusing, but I'm getting her.

Thanks for the help fellas.

Chad

Rather than lubricating the links, it is better to size them properly. The 'slow in returning to center' worries me. Yes, I think that the HS55's are under powered, fragile and have poor centering, but if the links are as friction free as they should be, those servos should return to their (poor) center just as fast as they would move without the links connected.

Yes, a better set of servos would likely improve things, but I think you should also go through and check all the links for friction free movement.

Have you seen the Finless videos?

agreed...ball links need to be sized properly....if correct.....no lube needed

I'll check her out tonight. Am I correct in assuming that, like the CP, the ball links are one way (i.e. one side hole is bigger than the other)? I may have reversed one in my anxiousness to get flying. Like I said above, it seems to be working better with the sub-trim set.

I feel like such a newbie. I was actually starting to get a little cocky on the CP, but I feel completely lost now.

Thanks, guys. I'm sure more questions will follow.

ball links go on with the A on the outside, facing you.

And the ball links should be loose enough to fall under thier own weight but no looser than that.
There is a ball link size adjusting tool. Several companies make them.
Here is an example:
