Funny you should ask... I have three of them. 2 for each of my kids and mine is on it's way... lol... should be here by Wednesday.

Rather than double posting, you can see pictures on page 8, 9 and 10. The kids have SH .12 engines and I'll be using an STS .12EX. We all run Spektrum 2.0 TX with either the micro or standard RX. I have Hi-Tech servos in theirs. The main difference between them is that I will have the BCE Chassis and I'm not sure what servos I'll be running yet....

Ouch, there must have been something wrong for them to fry so soon, did you get replacements/refund?

What would make the bushing between the piston rod and crank disappear?

Looks like my son's SH .12 threw the bushing and the motor chewed it up. No warning... no signs... it just stopped and wouldn't turn over. Seemed to have lost it's pinch, so I took the engine out and when I disconnected the pipe there were little metal pieces and black grime oozed out of the exhaust port. When I took off the back plate I noticed the bushing was gone and that the rod was a little chewed up. I proceeded to take off the heat sink and noticed a few cuts on the top of the piston.

Any ideas?

Just prior to this, we had the truck on the track and it was performing very well and we kept our eyes on the temp... 230 - 250 degrees. I'm going to call Hobby People to see what they say, but I'm curious as to what could have caused this.

Well I installed the STS .12EX I had on hand waiting for my CRT.5 to arrive and I'm currently breaking it in. Once it's ready I'll give you fellas a little insight as to the differences between the SH and STS engines.

Again... if anyone knows why and what happened to the blown SH I would appreciate it... we're still very confused...

I know this might sound weird, but would you guys get the CRT.5 or the Losi 8ight-T?
I know one is way smaller than the other but what would be more fun? What are the advantages and disadvantages of having a small truggy to a big one and vise versa?
To you guys who do have a CRT.5, how is the durability? What parts do you break most?
I was going to get a Losi 8ight-T, but the price of the CRT.5 is tempting. ($300 less for the CRT.5)
Thanks

I don't own the 8ight T, but I do own an 8ight B. The CRT.5 is just way too fun to drive and it's a blast when you lap a larger scale truck / buggy / etc.

I currently have 2 CRT.5s... I have two kids and they love RC just as much as I do.... pictures on page 8, 9 and 10. To be honest, I like the CRT.5 so much that I bought one for myself last week... LOL...

I really like my 8ight and although I can out pace the CRT.5 in the straights and clear the triples easier, it usually isn't far behind me. It's just one of those things that's easy to drive so it makes it fun.

The only thing I have broken so far has been a shock cap as it's plastic. So far it's holding up rather well and yes we manage to abuse them from time to time. I for one drove it straight into a concrete wall at full speed and nothing major happened to it. Unfortunately the RX battery connector came loose and I just lost control of it. But to be fair I did the same thing at my local track with my 8ight... after clearing a couple of jumps it popped a shock cap. I purchased the 8ight RTR and those shock caps were plastic as well. Since then I've upgraded my 8ight with most of the CNC parts from the kit.

Either one will serve you well... the CRT.5 is fun to drive and handles very well. You can save some money with the CRT.5 as you can pick up a SH or STS engine in the $100 range were as a good engine for the 8ight will be in the $200 range.

Had great fun at my local track yesterday with my crt.5, i was quicker than alot of the bigger cars. If i didn't already own a 1/8th truggy i would still get a crt.5 but would probably want a 1/8th one at some point. I havn't come across anything weak about the .5 yet and i have done some pretty big jumps and cartwheeled it loads. Also theres a series for the .5 near me, heres a video of the practice. crt.5.wmv

They all run this non pullstart hyper 12 engine. Excellent value and runs great. Series was set up as a more affordable alternative to the 1/8th classes that just become a race of hop up after hop up. You can read more on the series here i think they have changed the servo limit though as alot were having problems with the hs225mg's, most use hitec 5245mg now.

Looks like a great series and with those rules you are absolutely correct as it's a level playing field... it's all skill at that point. How are the 5245mg holding up?
