Well, I placed my order today over the phone, and the lady that took my order told me that it's likely that I'll get it tomorrow because I like in Michigan, which is real close to Ohio.

Reza,

Could you give a basic of comparision that I can use to judge how much vibration is too much? Qualitatively, how much does the Yak 69" vibrate with the two motors that you have tried? How much vibration do you get in the aileron servos, the rudder servo, and the elevator servo? Does the cowl vibrate much? what about the fuselage? is the vibration better, or worse at full throttle?

thanks for your time ....

Hi Brenner,

I was talking with Quique this morning. He thinks you need to watch for the vibration on the YS 1.20AC. He told me that vibration on that motor is more than YS 1.10 or OS. Once you got the kit, do an evaluation on the whole set up and see if you think you may need to either beef up the engine box a little or go by the softmount. Sometimes beefing up the motor box will add only 1-1.5 OZ but your softmount may weigh a lot more than that.

My only concern on the vibration is the engine box. If you use good servos I would not be worried about the vibration transfered to the control surfaces.

You are more than welcome to ask any questions while building as well.

Reza

Reza,

I'm building the 69" QQ Yak in the UK and feel the supplied control horns for the elevator and ailerons are not the correct ones.

On fitting the horns to the elevator, I could only get just over 40mm of down travel before they bottom out.

To try and improve matters, I have fitted the servo in the other way around and shortened the horn which allows a little more travel before it bottoms out on the stab.

In the set-up instructions, it shows 61mm for 3d deflections. Best I can get is 50mm.

As you can see from the photos, the horns fitted to the pictured model in the build manual are very different to the ones supplied.

Any thoughts?

Maurice.

I just got my plane today, and I checked out the elevator horns. Mine look the same as Maurice's, definitely not like what's shown in the manual.

Ok, Here are some pictures as promised.

The nice thing about the side mounted Saito is, I only had to cut two small holes in the side of the cowl. Only the valve covers stick out a little bit..

Hi Guys,

Let me get back with you on the horn issue tomorrow evening. I will check with Quique. I think the slots need to be moved a little further. That way you should not have any problems. Plane in the manual is prototype, there is always a little difference between production and prototype but if the arms supplied are wrong, I will have the correct ones sent out to you ASAP.

Thank you,
Reza

Reza, thanks for looking into this problem.

Just for your information, I dry fitted the horns into an aileron this morning and the measured maximum down travel at 60mm, yet your manual 3d settings
state 85mm.

There is no way they can be fitted wrongly, as the slots in the control surface and tongue of the horn are such a good fit.

With the horns fitted to the ailerons, the pivot point is on the hinge line, but the elevator horns come beyond the hinge line over the stab surface.

Unfortunately I glued the elevator horns before hinging the elevator, so I was 'stuffed' before I realized there was a problem.

Before I shortened the horns, the max travel was 40mm before they bottomed out on the stab.

Maurice.

Dear All,

After seeing your pictures and comparing with mine (Prototype) also checking with Quique who is in Canada now, I am sorry to say that some of these kits were shipped with the wrong control horns on the elevator and aileron.

We will send those of you that have gotten the wrong horns, new set of control horn and servo arms. For those of you who have not glued your control horn yet, please do not glue them until you receive your new set.

For those who have already glued it, I will send you a very easy to follow instructions with your set to do the fix and install your new control horn.

I personally want to sincerely apologize for this problem. Quique’s Aircraft will do their best to get these to you. Please email Molly at qqaircraft@gmail.com if you are one of the affected customers.

Regards,
Reza Gholamipour

Something which has been added since the manual was written up is the backing plates for the control horns.

I did not figure their use when fitting the elevator horns, but you can see one fitted here to the rudder. There is another on the other side of the pull pull rudder horn.

I have fitted a YS110.

Reza,

I'm looking at the engine box on the Yak 69", and I notice two things. It's open to the inside of the fuselage, and most of the wood isn't fuel proofed. Is this how you left the prototype? If yes, did you have any problem with oil getting into the inside of the engine box, and fuselage and soaking the unprotected wood? I absolutely don't want to add any uneeded extra weight, but I want the plane to durable as well.

Brenner,

I noticed the same thing and I didn't like the idea of the open box either. Especially with a 4stroke.

As you can see in my pictures, I covered the box with ultracote. Mot pictured is the blasa hatch on the bottom. It's just a piece of light balsa epoxied to the bottom and fuelproofed. The rest of the firewall was left uncovered, but fuelproofed as seen in my pictures.

Also, consider glueing in some extra triangle stock on the inside of the motor box. I did, and I just feel a lot better knowing that the added strength is there.

Brenner, I have covered my engine box and firewall in clear profilm, looks nice and keeps the fuel and oil out.

All of the outside surfaces of the motor box are pre fuel proofed from the factory, but nothing inside.
I've given all uncovered external surafaces another coat, along with a sealing of all my covered joints.
