Excellent! It looks like it flys just as advertised. Now I'm even more pissed that I can't get mine into the air.

ben beyer -> RE: 69" QQ Yak-54 (9/3/2007 4:42:36 PM)

The only thing stopping me from ordering one is that I want to hear how the YS 110 compares to the OS 120 on it.

cje0114 -> RE: 69" QQ Yak-54 (9/3/2007 5:15:57 PM)

well, having owned a couple YS 1.10's, I would say that it would be a great match on the Yak. The only problem that I see is that it's a few ounces heavier then my Saito that I'm using, and I still came out a touch nose heavy. I wound up having to add 2 ounces of lead to the tail of mine to get a better CG. As far as power goes, It should be similar in performance to my Saito.

I'll try to get some better video on a day that isn't so windy to show the stability of this plane. Yesterday was pretty breezy for an 8 pound plane, so I go bumped around quite a bit.

Hi Ben,

I actually got the testing done on YS 1.10 yesterday in 110F. I had to run to the field and get 3 flights to be able to help you guys. No videos but I will have a good write up tonight. I just came back from garage to get some cool air. Working on the Python very hard and it is 105F in my garage.

Thank you,
Reza

Guys,

I will update you tomorrow on the control horn issue. It bugs me to no end! I feel as uncomfortable as most of you out there!

Thank you,
Reza

ben beyer -> RE: 69" QQ Yak-54 (9/3/2007 7:23:43 PM)

Would you say the YS 110 had better power than the OS 120AX?

Do you have a spinner on your Saito 125?

No, no spinner right now, but I do have a very lightweight carbon spinner that I was planning on using on it one day. I just haven't gotten around to installing it yet.

I would probably have to mess with the CG again with the spinner on it, so maybe I'll just go spinner-less on this plane. We'll see.

YS 1.10 and OS 1.20AX comparison:

Now I have flown same plane with above engines. Here is the summary of what I think.

OS 1.20AX

Very smooth running engine, very strong, really easy to run and tune, very little vibration, Quiet, cheap to run with 15% fuel. Both sports and 3D flyers can be very happy with this engine. With 16x8 prop, plane will fly faster than a warbird and with 17x6 will really do good in 3D, however the midrange torque and the punch is not there. What I like about gas engines is the midrange torque and punch, OS 1.20 is a little week in that area, you should rev higher RPMs to achieve the needed torque but pull out from hover is really strong because you are pulling out full throttle and engine can pick up some serious RPM.

Things I like about OS 1.20AX:

1. Runs great out of the box and eacy to tune
2. Muffler is awesome
3. Quiet
4. Vibration is very low
5. Cheap to buy
6. Cheap to run
7. Very strong and top speed is simply amazing

Cons:
1. Lacks mid range torque for extreme 3D pilots. If you are a sports flyer, this should not matter at all.

YS 1.10S

Well, I mounted the engine side ways jus like the OS 1.20. I had to play with the low needle to get it running fine. Recommended adjustment on the low end was way too lean for me and engine would not stay running. Vibration is way more than OS! Make sure that you DO NOT run the engine on the fuse only, you NEED to have the wings on. Engine is brand new with only 3 tanks! It was turning a 16x6 APC at 9300 with YS 20/20 fuel and rich settings. Pull outs very amazing and as good as OS 1.20. Top speed a little slower as expected. Mid range torque was phenomenal! I thought I was flying a gas engine like DA50. Punch and thrust was right there. You could modulate the throttle a little and see the thrust kicking in and plane is moving! Awesome mid range torque. Plane would do much tighter waterfalls and tumbles due to torquey motor! Would be a perfect choice for intermediate and advanced 3D pilots.

Things I like about the YS 1.10S:

1. Very strong engine
2. Thrust was phenomenal
3. Transition of throttle and effect of thrust were like a gas engine

Things you need to watch out for:

1. If not tuned properly can shake the plane pretty bad!
2. Check on the muffler to ensure tightness each flight for couple of flights and then once in a while
3. Since it is a pressurized system, make sure to check your tank once in a while to ensure safety of plumbing and monitoring the condition of the tank.

Cons:

1. Engine is a little harder to tune in compare to OS but certainly doable and once tuned in right, it purrs!
2. A little more expensive to run as it needs YS 20/20 fuel

I will do a video next couple of weeks as well but for now please take my word for it.

Best Regards,
Reza Gholamipour

ben beyer -> RE: 69" QQ Yak-54 (9/4/2007 5:28:51 PM)

Ok Reza, I got one of these headed my way and I'm going to put a YS 110 in it. If you want to see what the YS 110 can really do, put some 30% Heli fuel (especially the Curtis Youngblood fuel) in it.

I have a few questions for you as I need to order some stuff.

About how big is the fuel tank and does the included one seem to be able to handle the pressure from the YS 110?

Do you recommend any kind of special fuel dot?

I'd like to replace the composite servo arms with ones from DuBro or SWB, what are the lengths of them from the center hole of the servo mount to the outer most hole of the arm?

I NICOL -> RE: 69" QQ Yak-54 (9/10/2007 8:42:26 PM)

Hi Guys

For those of you that can not wait I have horn sets available cnc cut from 1mm tufnol sheet for the horns and 2mm tufnol sheet for the servo heads, these were cut from QQ's drawings that were sent to me on request to keep the UK customers from a longer delay

Brenner -> RE: 69" QQ Yak-54 (9/11/2007 10:26:38 AM)

Hey Reza,

Is there anything like this available for USA customers?

Rezagh -> RE: 69" QQ Yak-54 (9/11/2007 3:55:12 PM)

Guys,

We shipped the horns out to you yesterday vis Priority mail. You should have them very soon! Thank you for being patient.

Reza

Brenner -> RE: 69" QQ Yak-54 (9/15/2007 11:53:42 PM)

Reza,

Could I ask what props you recommend for the OS 120, & the YS 110? Also, how do you prop these motors when you want to fly 3D, and when you want to fly precision?

thanks ...

Rezagh -> RE: 69" QQ Yak-54 (9/16/2007 3:21:08 AM)

Sure! YS 1.10 16x6 OS 1.20 17x6 for both would be fine! On OS 1.20 you can also fly precision with 16x8.

Thank you,
Reza

ben beyer -> RE: 69" QQ Yak-54 (9/26/2007 6:19:07 AM)

Hey Reza, could you post some pics of how you did your muffler on the YS 110 and where you cut the cowling at?

Thanks.

asmatt2 -> RE: 69" QQ Yak-54 (9/28/2007 3:55:21 AM)

Reza, I am torn between three engine options and would like your opinion on which would be the best of the three:

1. YS 110
2. Saito 125
3. Saito 150

Thanks!

Rezagh -> RE: 69" QQ Yak-54 (9/28/2007 4:56:17 AM)

Hi There,

Go with either Saito 1.25 or YS 1.10. I have done experimenting with YS 1.10 and it is great but a customer of ours flew his with Saito 1.25 and lives it too. He says the power is awesome as well.

Saito 1.5 is too much.

Thank you for your question,
Reza

Rezagh -> RE: 69" QQ Yak-54 (9/28/2007 4:57:30 AM)

Ben,

I used my old cowl from the OS. The hole was so big that worked with the YS. I have not done any cutting on the new cowl I have for the YS as I got busy with the new plane Python.

Sorry:(
Reza

asmatt2 -> RE: 69" QQ Yak-54 (9/30/2007 1:15:08 AM)

What servos is everyone using? What size battery (4.8V or 6V)? I was thinking about Hitec 625MG all arround and an 85MG for the throttle. Any other recommendations?

Brenner -> RE: 69" QQ Yak-54 (9/30/2007 3:13:37 PM)

I'm using futaba S9155's on the ailerons, rudder, & elevator, and an S3102 on the throttle.

asmatt2 -> RE: 69" QQ Yak-54 (10/1/2007 10:25:09 PM)

Should I use the Hitec 5625MG High SPEED or High TORQUE for this plane?

Rezagh -> RE: 69" QQ Yak-54 (10/2/2007 12:38:09 AM)

The 5625 would work but the torque is marginal then again I don't think you will have problems with them.

Thank you,
Reza

cje0114 -> RE: 69" QQ Yak-54 (10/2/2007 1:28:57 AM)

I was using 5625's on mine with no problems alt all. They were running 6 volts.

Chris
