YS 1.10 and OS 1.20AX comparison:
Now I have flown same plane with above engines. Here is the summary of what I think.
OS 1.20AX
Very smooth running engine, very strong, really easy to run and tune, very little vibration, Quiet, cheap to run with 15% fuel. Both sports and 3D flyers can be very happy with this engine. With 16x8 prop, plane will fly faster than a warbird and with 17x6 will really do good in 3D, however the midrange torque and the punch is not there. What I like about gas engines is the midrange torque and punch, OS 1.20 is a little week in that area, you should rev higher RPMs to achieve the needed torque but pull out from hover is really strong because you are pulling out full throttle and engine can pick up some serious RPM.
Things I like about OS 1.20AX:
1. Runs great out of the box and eacy to tune
2. Muffler is awesome
3. Quiet
4. Vibration is very low
5. Cheap to buy
6. Cheap to run
7. Very strong and top speed is simply amazing
Cons:
1. Lacks mid range torque for extreme 3D pilots. If you are a sports flyer, this should not matter at all.
YS 1.10S
Well, I mounted the engine side ways jus like the OS 1.20. I had to play with the low needle to get it running fine. Recommended adjustment on the low end was way too lean for me and engine would not stay running. Vibration is way more than OS! Make sure that you DO NOT run the engine on the fuse only, you NEED to have the wings on. Engine is brand new with only 3 tanks! It was turning a 16x6 APC at 9300 with YS 20/20 fuel and rich settings. Pull outs very amazing and as good as OS 1.20. Top speed a little slower as expected. Mid range torque was phenomenal! I thought I was flying a gas engine like DA50. Punch and thrust was right there. You could modulate the throttle a little and see the thrust kicking in and plane is moving! Awesome mid range torque. Plane would do much tighter waterfalls and tumbles due to torquey motor! Would be a perfect choice for intermediate and advanced 3D pilots.
Things I like about the YS 1.10S:
1. Very strong engine
2. Thrust was phenomenal
3. Transition of throttle and effect of thrust were like a gas engine
Things you need to watch out for:
1. If not tuned properly can shake the plane pretty bad!
2. Check on the muffler to ensure tightness each flight for couple of flights and then once in a while
3. Since it is a pressurized system, make sure to check your tank once in a while to ensure safety of plumbing and monitoring the condition of the tank.
Cons:
1. Engine is a little harder to tune in compare to OS but certainly doable and once tuned in right, it purrs!
2. A little more expensive to run as it needs YS 20/20 fuel
I will do a video next couple of weeks as well but for now please take my word for it.
