Hey guys....i've been flying the Blade cx2 for alittle while now and i think i've outgrown it.....i need sumthing that can fly outdoors in light wind now. I'm in jamaica so i'm goin to have to import it and want one that parts are available and cheap and doesn't give alot of trouble or has defects. I've been researching some Fixed Pitch Single blade helis and would like to hear some feed back as to which is the best one to get; taking quality, parts availability, parts price, upgrade parts availability, upgrade parts price and basically which one is jus more durable and the best heli for the money. i'll jus list wat i'm interested in and please feel free to comment on them from your experiences.

The first is the Radio Control Esky Honey Bee2 4CH Electric RC helicopter RTF which is about or jus under $100.

The second is the Walkera Dragonfly 76C 4CH Electric RC Helicopter RTF which is alittle more than $100 at about $110....this Heli's is FP but the pitch can be altered with some screws.

The third is the Electric Radio Control Walkera Dragonfly04 4CH RC Helicopter Version2 RTF which is the cheapest priced of the 3 at around $90

I just ordered the Esky Honey Bee FP, but haven't received it yet. I've had a lot of experience with the CX, but won't be able to comment on the Honey Bee for a few weeks. I'd be curious to hear what others say about your choices. Neall

I have the HB FP2 and love it. I have never owned any walkera products due to some negative posts i have read about them. there is another one that I would like some info on which is the MS Composit Hornet X-FP. Not around many places and its not an RTF kit, but looks interesting. A bit larger it seems and I like the look of it. A buddy of mine pointed this out to me yesterday which bugged me greatly since I paid $40 more.

I know nothing about xheli.com, but that is a great price.

GL with the FP you chose and keep us informed.

Diggs

Edit: Forgot to mention that you can use the Lipos from the CX2 with the FP2 or Mark IV whatever the dealer you buy it from is calling it these days. But I use my same chargers and lipo packs. I never took that hog of a NIMH pack out of the original FP box.

imo, your money would be better spend on a blade cp pro for the one reason that collective pitch will handle wind and fixed pitch won't. as far as a step up from a cx2, cp helis are not much different to fly than fp while you're learning the basics. as you progress to forward flight, the fp will fail you and leave you grounded in the wind, where as the cp pro will move forward with you until your ready to do some serious 3D, wind or no wind. when you're training, the biggest difference between cp and fp is setup; there are more details in settin up a cp machine correctly.

as far as durability, the main problem with collective pitch helis is they break servos faster than fp helis. the servos are easily upgradeable. you can get very durable metal gear servos when one breaks, which would make them pretty much bulletproof. aside from being hard on servos, cp machines are superior in every way.

when it comes to cp helis, there are many brands to choose from. owning both esky and eflight helis, i found eflight to be consistently have a better design and more precision. i have no direct experiences with walkera, but have read many stories from ppl who own both eflight and walkera helis and it seems they are always saying walkera is trash.

being human, we all tend to recommend what we use ourselves (darn egos). so it is important to listen to the facts that ppl are using to support their claims. usually someone who owns both helis can tell you honestly which one is better.

I can't argue with Trug, as he makes good points. I just felt I couldn't resist the Honey Bee FP... for just over $100, ready to fly, and it accepts my big batch of CX LiPos. What makes the collective pitch heli good in the wind is exactly what worried ME about learning inside my house... very high head speeds compared to the FP. So,I guess I figured it was a compromise. It all depends on your intended use. One thing that's consistently nagged at me is the constant glitching in the CX radio, which I feared would continue with a CP. I hope that'll be somewhat better with another brand. I'll keep you posted.. the Honey Bee should be here today. I still love my CX, and definitely wouldn't rule out a CP Pro in the future. Neall

Shamos69,
As was mentioned before don't even consider the others you been looking at and get the Blade CP PRO. A few of us in Jamaica have Blade CP Pro's with spare parts we order regularly so you should be able to get those. Where in Jamaica are you? Where do you fly? Send me a PM if you want more info.
Maurice

Honey Bee Garbage...

I just received my Honey Bee Mk 3 (fixed pitch). What a mess. One servo is bad... all it does is continuously spin in a circle once power is applied. That is, once the link broke loose from the ball. One flybar paddle came attached vertically, instead of horizontally. The paddle is tight... factory installed that way. This thing could have never flown out of the box. The main shaft retaining collar is loose, so there is play in the main shaft. Of course, Hobby-Lobby customer service is inaccessible so far.

I wish I hadn't made a $200 mistake (with extra accessories). If I can get this resolved, I'll head to my LHS and pick up a CP Pro. If I can't, it'll be a battle between them and my credit card company, because I'm going to disupute the charge. Just a big disaster. Neall

The Hobbly Lobby website says if you don't like it, then send it back right away. So, off went my Honey Bee FP. While it was out of the box, I also noticed that it's impossible to balance the CG no matter how far forward you slide the battery in the cage. It's a very back heavy machine. I'd have to suspend the battery under the 4-in-1, as they do on the Honey Bee CP. Not sure why they don't use the same setup on the FP, as far as the extended battery cage. At any rate, no way it'd have flown out of the box even if not defective. CG is way too far off. Good riddance, I say. Neall

Update: To Hobby-Lobby's credit, they did call back, were very apologetic, and welcomed the heli back with an immediate refund given upon receipt. I'll have to wait for Visa to be credited before I can go buy the CP Pro. Diggs, sorry, just wasn't meant to be. I'm glad you like yours.

I have bought 2 walker 22e, and let me tell you setting them up is very hard to impossible, first walker had one crash due to the throttle just jamming and the heli would launch up past what throttle i was giving it.. it did that a couple times then crashed caused the motor to burn out and the receiver, put a new motor in but it never could reach the rpms to take off.. bad receiver.. so the second walker 22e was much more durable tons and tons of crash bent the tail boom over and over chewed through blades but it kept flying until i broke some of the linkages.. but it was a hassel cause no LHS carried walker parts only blade stuff.. so if i bought another CCPM it would be the blade pro heard soooo much good stuff about them and my LHS carries repair parts for when you crash it.. and you will crash it...

P.S the battery that came with one heli would only work for 5 mins before dieing.. that sucked..

you get what you pay for my 22e was only 86.00 plus shipping

I've been using the Dynam Hughes 300 FP and I like it so far. It is about $100 too.

Amazed... The only thing I did to mine was ditch the battery mount and hung a CX2 mount under it instead. Shame yours came like this. Mine was perfect. I still Know it is the better choice. Again, if I had to do it all over, no way would I have looked at the blade CP or CPP. Oh well, I hate that went that way for you. But I certainly can't blame you receiving the heli like it was.

Hey Diggs, I was really bummed. Now, I'm between a rock and a hard place. I live in an area with almost constant wind (at the mouth of a mountain range), and I only have an 8'x8' room to learn hovering. I'm getting bored with my CX. Given my (lack of quality) experience with the Honey Bee, and that I don't really have room in my place to learn on a CP Pro, it's probably time to get out of the sport, though I wish I didn't have to. Thanks for all your tips, though. Greatly appreciated.

Neall...keep the faith....I to have only an 8X8 main area to fly in also but after much research here I think Im going CPP as the next step...Ive read alot about downgrading the CPP to flat bottom blades and it makes sense to me to go this way...It will be tight but I will take my time and get hovering in my small area and go from there to hovering outdoors and concentrate on proper setup during this learning curve,I think it can be done with patience....

Take Off... thanks for the encouragement. You're right... I'm just a bit bummed right now, but I'll get over it. My biggest problem is I don't have the greatest eye/hand coordination, so I suspect I'll be breaking a lot of stuff on a CP (I did/do on my CX, and it's easy to fly). At any rate, no doubt I'll try it anyway. I do have a park nearby (but it's usually windy), and what's worse, is people gather no matter what time or day to watch you fly. That'll be fun to learn to hover and crash in front of an audience. LOL. Neall

Save me a ticket.... and while your entertaining down there I will be running the Canadian version of "smack" your Heli...but seriously I'm just going to take it slow and learn about this thing and all the inner secrets(thats half the hobby for me) when I think back to flying even the CX for the first time I was wondering what I had got myself into,Im in precision fabrication and my hands have 30 years of death grip on sheet steel, because if it slides in your hands your off to the seamtress for some cat gut...it took me longer than most probably to get some of the memory in my hands required for this hobby but im glad I stuck it out because the never ending flying and tech.aspects make for a great hobby!! we'll see who does better in the smack ratings....LOL...ROB...
