Good morning everyone,
I have a Hyde mount with glass filled nylon rails. This mount is setup for a 1.40L, however, I have changed my engine choice to the 3M 1.40. The mounting holes are in the same place, but the mounts/tabs on the engine are wider, and it doesn't fit between the outer side wals of the nylon piece.

My question is, can I trim that side wall enough to get the engine to fit without sacrificing too much strength? I don't think the mount will fail, but I thought I should get some second opinions.

Thanks.

Ryan Taylor

as long as the front is in a nose ring , no problem, trim away.

No, I'm not going to make it home. The airplane may be finished, but without a test flight or practice I don't want to waste anyones time!

What airplane are you going to be flying Ryan? I've got the new Marcelo Colombo Eclipse coming and should have it ready by the middle of March. Going to use the Webra 1.45 Aero X myself. It'll be interesting to see how the new 2-strokes perform. The 3M is certainly a VERY nice looking engine.

I have to preface that I tried flying a "pattern" plane a couple of years ago and hated it! So, I decided to have my old Gator G-202 finished. Its ready except for servos and engine installation. Hopefully this time around I will actually enjoy flying pattern.

Thats sweet about the Eclipse! Look forward to seeing it! Are you going to fly intermediate like me?

Nope. I'm flying either Masters or FAI. I flew Tony Frakowiak's Gator 202 a few times and it felt really good to me. I think you'll like it. It might have a little too much wing area for the snaps and things in FAI now, but maybe not.
