GC8 -> HELP Stalling problem rs4 evo (3/1/2007 11:06:12 PM)

I just got my nitro rtr3 evo, so im a straight up noobie, i went through all the trouble shooting already and its still doing the same thing. So ok here is my problem my rc will start up but once its on it will go crazy for like 2 secounds without me touching the remote and then shut rite off, its got gas, glow plug is fully charged btw its a roto start. please help me out Thanks

iexion -> RE: HELP Stalling problem rs4 evo (3/1/2007 11:25:44 PM)

you have ur carb open too much im guessing.. Try to set your Throttle servo so te engine has a closed carb, also make sure your radio gear is set so everything is neutral.

http://hpiracing.com/graphics/instr/n3ss/kn3_31.jpg << its kind of confusing but read thru it, it will give a better insight.

And if all the linkage is correct then you might need to lower your rpm with the IDLE screw

Thanks guys after a hour and a half of tunning its not stalling no more, but it spits alot of gas outta the muffler is that normal? also how do i know if your running rich or lean? Thanks

jeremiah__brown -> RE: HELP Stalling problem rs4 evo (3/2/2007 1:49:16 AM)

Make sure its smoking good enough so you can see a steady plume coming out of the tail pipe & it should be good. There will be some oil coming out of the tail pipe thats not fuel thats the oil that keeps the motor lubricated, its normal. If you want to check the engine temp. use a drop of water on the top of the head. If the drop sizzles & evaporates within 3 seconds the motor is too hot " too lean". When the motor is running at the right temp. the water drop will take 5 to 8 seconds to dry up. Good luck.

iexion -> RE: HELP Stalling problem rs4 evo (3/2/2007 3:33:00 AM)

Also, If u dont have any already, Go out and by some "after run oil". you can get this stuff at your local hobbyshop for $2-3 After your doing running your car, make sure theres no gas left in the engine then put around 5-8 drops in the carb and use the roto start to lube the engine, the after run oil will help keep your engine lasting longer and keep anything inside from rusting. What i do is take out the glow plug and put extra inside the engine its self. U dont have to do that step but its just some extra insurance for your engine. But i would take out the glow plug when u put the oil in the carb . It just makes it easyer to lube the engine.

It seem (for me anyways) that after run oil makes it easier to start up next time i want to drive my car

jonsmilez -> RE: HELP Stalling problem rs4 evo (3/2/2007 3:59:17 AM)

i didnt read 2 much of the forum, i kinda skimmed through.. but i didnt see anybuddytalk abotu batteries.. and when u say go crazy... was it the servos going crazy? like ur sterring and throttle rods?... cuz that would be ur batteries, just happened 2 me.. then i ordered a hump pack(a hump pack is a rechargable battery cell and it also has more power then 4 AA, its basicaly like 5 AA so instead of getting 4.8V from 4 AA batteries u get 6V (most AA batteries has 1.2V), which supposebly makes a difference--i would assume so but i havent recieved the hump pack in the mail yet... let us know what the problem is.. and good luck.. if u still cant figure it out remember local hobby stores are almost happy 2 hepl u out, and they usually sont charge that much... g luck bro

GC8 -> RE: HELP Stalling problem rs4 evo (3/2/2007 11:59:41 AM)

Thanks guys, i forgot to mention that when i start up the car it wont idle, the wheels will just spin until i turn it off, and i just put new batteries in the remote and the car.

iexion -> RE: HELP Stalling problem rs4 evo (3/2/2007 2:22:30 PM)

Yea the engine needs to be "pre tuned" so u can break it in. Set the low speed to fully closed (clockwise) then open it 3 full turns (counter clockwise) u shouldnt have to tuch the high end needle. always run with the air filter on!

GC8 -> RE: HELP Stalling problem rs4 evo (3/2/2007 6:51:10 PM)

Ok ill try that agian, but does the smoke from the exhaust sting your eyes?

Update. Try that agian still the same wont work, anyone know whats up it seems like when i start it up its in gear and will keep on going till i force it to shut off. throttle and everything works except for the brakes. [:o]

hpi apollo -> RE: HELP Stalling problem rs4 evo (3/2/2007 9:27:15 PM)

there are only a few things that cause ti to take off
-idle is too high
-clutch is damaged or dragging
-air leak causing engine to run lean and rev
-tuning is just lean

HeLLsGoD -> RE: HELP Stalling problem rs4 evo (3/3/2007 1:07:23 AM)

Also check your carb opening + radio trims. Pop out your airfilter and it should have a 1mm gap on the carb at neutral and open up completely at full throttle and brakes should work 100%

iexion -> RE: HELP Stalling problem rs4 evo (3/3/2007 1:25:38 AM)

Might need to take it to your hobby shop, if all else fails

GC8 -> RE: HELP Stalling problem rs4 evo (3/3/2007 3:24:59 PM)

I think i know the problem, how do you adjust the throttle servo? do i just do it from the controller?

iexion -> RE: HELP Stalling problem rs4 evo (3/3/2007 5:43:34 PM)

Either that way or take off the hardware on the servo and start over. What i mean is once u have the servo gear off ( not the servo it self) turn on the the transmitter and the battery box. Make sure the carb is set to its close position with the 1mm gap and then put the hardware back on the servo. This should have everything set so its in the correct position with out haveing the carb too far open. you dont need to take off the hardware on the engine/carb just the servo its self. Make any since?

GC8 -> RE: HELP Stalling problem rs4 evo (3/3/2007 6:53:20 PM)

I have already done that befor, could it be my clutch dragging or damaged, because my brakes dont work eighter.

HeLLsGoD -> RE: HELP Stalling problem rs4 evo (3/4/2007 1:55:46 AM)

I think its jsut ur servo man, if your brakes arent working then most likely your throttle isnt working properly either. Just take it to ur local hobby store and get him to check it out. take pics for us? and maybe we can see better

GC8 -> RE: HELP Stalling problem rs4 evo (3/4/2007 1:44:08 PM)

Heres some picture how i got it set up.

jonsmilez -> RE: HELP Stalling problem rs4 evo (3/4/2007 3:38:37 PM)

i dont htink this is the problem, but from the pics it looks liek ur throttle arm (the rod that connects to your carborator) it looks bent... i dunno if its me cuz i jsut woke up, or if its the pic... but yeah.... also u should invest in aa good hour and clean ur car! as for the problme its kinda hard 2 tell from pics-in my opinion... but maybe hellsgod and hpiapollo can help u, lol...8-)

iexion -> RE: HELP Stalling problem rs4 evo (3/4/2007 5:03:15 PM)

Carb is open WAY too much!! Thats exactly what i was talking about. You need to close to carb so much that it looks like no air is coming in. When it looks like you can only fit a hair pin needle in the carb, thats when its close to the right "closed" position

hpi apollo -> RE: HELP Stalling problem rs4 evo (3/4/2007 7:33:19 PM)

dude your carb is too far open, it should be open about 1mm at most

GC8 -> RE: HELP Stalling problem rs4 evo (3/4/2007 8:09:55 PM)

My carb will only open more, it wont close anymore. is there anyway i can get it close or take it apart?

hpi apollo -> RE: HELP Stalling problem rs4 evo (3/4/2007 8:23:37 PM)

it will close more, you need to adjust the idle screw, all thte idle screw does is set the limit on how far the carb can close, yours is too far open

GC8 -> RE: HELP Stalling problem rs4 evo (3/4/2007 10:26:20 PM)

Yea i just noticed rite after i posted it, i got it closed with a little opening and its still doing the same thing, ill probably get a vid and show you guys what i mean, the clutch still looks good. and i got the brakes to work.

hpi apollo -> RE: HELP Stalling problem rs4 evo (3/4/2007 10:42:57 PM)

you have to make suer that its not your servo pushing is that far open, sometime you have to reseat the servo horn on the servo, take off the linkage and see if your carb closes to about 1mm, then turn on your radio and set the linkage to keep the carb open the same amount, this could involve changing the length of the linkage and adjusting the servo
