Anyone have one yet? The flying weight is claimed at 540grams/1.2lbs. Is that true?

I am currently flying one of these planes. In fact I ordered 2 of them. My second one however had some shipping damage. They come out a bit more than the 1.2 lbs. Mine with all MICRO gear not mini came out at 2lb 2 oz. Please take note that you will need a 2100mil Lipo pack to make it balance properly. The plane itself is built well, but is set up to take mini size servos -more weight-- I changed all the mounts to take micro gear... 1/4 oz servos instead of 1/2 oz. It builds very well and actually has OK instructions. The wing tube is carbon and comes with a pull pull rudder set up. The tail has a small plastic skid no tail wheel to save weight. The canopy is held on by magnets and is very lite weight. Its a good buy for 84 bucks....

I was actually thinking glow powered. I would be happy if it came in at 2.5 to 3lbs with a .21 Thanks for the response. This may be the project after next.

The air frame itself is right around 1.1oz lb so I would think 2.lb 5oz RTF should be doable for a small glow a OS 25 LA only weighs 10.5 oz with muffler figure 5 servos at 1/2 oz each plus linkage 1.5 oz plus an empty 4oz tank maybe 1 to 1.5 oz and engine mount and hardware 1.5 oz thats just over 2lbs then plus fuel I'd say 2lbs 4 or 5oz flight ready is well with in range...

Hey John
I sent a PM to NITROSTAFF1 not sure if that is your handel as well .. It looks like I may have got the plane that was at the bottom of the shipping pile. Both wings have some internal crush damage as well as the fuselage and canopy. I know you guys will take care of me you always do. The other YAK was perfect. these things are great and once they catch on they will sell like crazy... If anyone asks make sure they get a brushless motor for planes that are 3 - 4 lbs in weight for 3D purposes other wise a 480 size will fly it nicely for sport fun. Plus a 2100 Mil Lipo pack is needed for balance,

As for the damaged YAK I think this kit is pretty much a write off. If you want to PM or E-mail me off line that’s fine.. I sent you my Phone info as well via PM. If you want to call I am at work until 2 AM tonight.
Thanks Again.

I'd be interested in flying it with a 25 glow.. So, how do they fly? I know they are small, but do the wings detach?

YES, the wings come off. It has a carbon fiber tube wing support while 2 bolts --1 for each wing -- hold them to the fuselage, just as with most all larger mid wing planes. A 25-size engine would be more than enough power for this one. It is built very light but still pretty strong. I fly mine as an electric with a 11 x7 slow flyer prop. I am mostly flying in close to myself while practicing 3D type maneuvers. The plane is very stable due to the lightweight and low wing loading. Fly’s similar to a large FOAMTANA, just not quit as slow

YES, it will do what ever you throw at it. Just not as smooth due to its small size. Its a little twitchy on high rates , I am using 75% expo with everything maxed out on throw. Low rates it fly’s nice and slow and will surprise you with its sport flying qualities --- a real floater

After my recent experiences with Nitro Models and their customer service, I decided to spend the extra money and get another Hyperion Yak.

I was going to get this one, but if there are problems, the flying season would be over before they get resolved. At least The Hyperion Yaks are tested, fly well, and if you need something they are quick to respond with help.

For those of you that may buy this plane please note this is the best motor for all out unlimited 3D in this airframe. I am also using a 40amp E-Flite ESC and a 2100 3s Lipo pack.

http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=EFLM4025A

Very fun plane, very easy build, good instructions... You will have to modify the motor box for this engine set up but WOW what great performance!!!!! The 2100 gives about 5 to 6 min flying time.. This set up also weights a little more at 2lbs 5oz. The plane still flys very light at this weight and will do anything you ask of it.....

I agree that 2 day service is great. I would love even 7 days response.

Then why after numerous calls and Emails am I still waiting for a response 2 weeks later?? And still waiting, And Waiting, and waiting. Maybe they pick and choose which customer they will help and those that they won't. At any rate I've bought 3 planes from them, and am dissapointed enough now that I had a problem, that I most likely wont buy again. I really like the Yak they have listed, (and now a discount coupon) but am very leary. Being retired and love to build, I order 10-12 planes a year just for the fun of building them. Some I sell after building, some I keep and fly. As of now I have 11 planes sitting in the hangar ready to fly.

Anybody have a clue as to where the CG should be for the E-3D-EP plane. It takes 6-8 ounces of lead to get it to balance at 2.2 inches at the wing root next to the fuselage. Which in where the instructions say it should be. That makes the plane weigh over 30 ounces to get it to fly. not bloody likely!!!! Needless to say its now hanging on the wall and waiting for a belated response frome Nitro Models. If they ever decide to respond.
