Ahem! REAL racing aircraft? I think the Q40 crowd, not to mention the F3D guys would take exception to that remark!

Actually, that looks rather like a Prather. I had a Toni that I put an MVVS quickie motor on and was just going to sport fly the thing. Then I lost interest and sold it at an auction a couple years back.

Too bad that's all they're good for now!

John;
Your absolutely correct! Little Toni's were so dependable back then. That one still has the the Orginal 40VRP I ran in the early days. When I'm depressed LOL I crank her up to her nothing but the sweet Ear piercing Sound. : ) Mid that plane sure looks familiar when I went to the Tangerine.
Remember our races back then 1 Minute to Fly and 2-3 Minutes to bleed off speed LOL God! they flew so well.

Yes Jack, The Tangerine Field is about 3min. from my shop.
I race with the Telfords,Freemans & O'brain. BVM even comes
out now and again. I missed the F1 days as well as the 15 size
QMs. Just came to the game alittle late.

Bill;
Have you ever flown one of these? BTW she's a nice aircraft. They fly so true, but take so long to bleed off air. I'd almost say it takes 1/2 again as long to bleed of air with a F1 as it does with QM. If you've never folown a F1 don't forget Rudder on take off : ) Very important! LOL

Even though my dad stopped producing Cosmic Wind Minnows in the late 70's or early 80's, I'm getting the molds and wing templates from him.

For those that don't know, the Stegall Minnow and the Prather Toni were the dominant F1 planes in the mid 70's. At the NMPRA championship in 1975, A Stegall Minnow flown by Jim Maki won 1st place. In the top 20, there were 4 Stegall Minnows and 10 Prather Toni's. They are easily identifiable by the landing gear. If the gear is on the fuselage, it is a Stegall. If the gear is in the wing, it is a Prather. Another easy way to identify them is that the Prather cheek cowls go all the way to the spinner, and the Stegall's are back about 1/2 inch.

Check out these F1 Photos on PylonWorld. Let me know if I can snag your photos that have been posted, and feel free to email me photos of any class of racers to be posted on PylonWorld. Let some of the retirees know that I'm looking for photos, also.

Here's the last F1 racer I owned. Just before Q40 started to catch on. Formula one had its mystique but I'm so happy that we now have Q40.

I got tired of buring up engines and trying to find that needle setting.

This was a minnow kitted by Harold Sattler. Nelson F-1 engine. K&B Paint.

BV, thanks, the grrt is pipe timed which is too high for open face. You need to match a side exhaust liner to the rear exhaust piston. It should be 160-164 deg. sorry if I'm telling you what you already know. It has a great ability to withstand lean runs! I used 50-55 nitro on 7 3/4 x 7 1/4, pipe was 3 1/2"-k&b 1L circa 1992

BV, yes, you have that right. I bought p/l set for the regular sport fly mvvs 40. Therehave been so many versions of grrt that I suspect there may be as many versions of the sport engine, but the porting is all the same on engines I have seen, side exhaust whole top end will fit grrt rear exhaust, just rotate 90 deg. The ports didn't line up too good even as intended so may need some work. I also had to change bearings. Transfer timing not important but exhaust timing is. This is only my opinion. I've seen x40's and OS vrp's withquite different and high timed exhausts that still ran quite well
