Seb,
I also have 3 spare decks with wingnut setups on and Dudes ready to go so if I break an o-ring I can just swap decks and worry about changing the o-ring when I get home.

Such cool fun doing this, hey mate?

I really love getting the board all primed up and packs charged and packing  a kit with a few bits and pieces and I seriously dig getting up really early for the dawn patrol.

Awesome waves around here all the time bro.
I am totally amped up 24/7 on this.

I just finished getting a new NQD board ready to run in the morning.

Sea Ya.

Damn Jimi, sounds like you have an RC Shop in your garage! Bummer there isn't a motor with a 5mm shaft floating about.

Yeah the beach at 6am is the best place to be and the best way to start the day.

Looks like one day we might get a few waves together, there is a very good chance i will be living in Perth early next year.

G'day Crew Members,

I have done a bit more work on NQD hull number 4.

The rails are sealed the Curlz way with Epoxy putty and I have also added a coat of epoxy resin painted over the seals.
I have also painted the rails to add extra sealing.
I am certain they will just crack and leak after a few sessions.

But she is ready to test in the ocean.
I just have to mount the Dude on the deck..

The ESC has silicon in the end where the wires come out and is taped up heavily with electrical tape.
Since I have done this I have not had any more problems with the ESC.

Alas, I am still using a standard Kyosho coupler.
The board looks cool anyway.

Surf is not promising for the morning as the swell is only 1 1/2' and the wind is predicted to be SE, so I am uncertain if I will test in the morning.

Sea Ya.

Hi guys,

Got my Headcam sorted out and did a test run this morning. A couple of shots could have been better, but will adjust cam and zoom when more confident in using it.

It is great to finally be able to get some regular footage!!!

See footage here:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ML0km6DmcA0

Hope you all are getting some good waves this weekend!

Jimi, your board looks great!

Ciao.

Sebski,

Yeah, the black rails look good, I noticed in a few surf mags that boards with black rails look very photogenic.
Bob says his son Jake had one and the photos always looked great.

You got me thinkin', I'm gonna get a new SD card for my Gathcam now, I wrecked the other one, I took it out while the cam was still on.
Only thing is, I can't zoom in on mine.

Still, there are quite a few places around here that break close to the shore so it should come in handy from time to time.

You will be able to lift some great stills from your footage too.
Good luck bro.

Can't wait to show you round my favourite spots on the beaches when you come over here.

Gotta go and play DJ at a friends wedding reception in a couple of hours.

Sea ya.

Goggz,
Try Brendon @ Wombarra.
He sold me a heap for $50.00AUD each.
They are the original first generation Kyosho ones.
You have to trim the mould seams and glue the arms and head on.
If you can get one or two, stick carbon fibre all over.
Since I have done that the Dude can handle anything.
If you don't do CF then you will blow his legs off, ha ha ha.
Have a look at them pictures from "Bowes", he was getting slammed onto the reef on some decent sized set waves and not a crack.

If they can't help, John has offered $100 Dudes to member of this site, probably charge $40.00 for post.
At least his are already made and painted.
So the price is comparable.
Believe me, It takes hurs and hours of hard work trimming and constructing and painting one from a kit.
If you get one from Dr. Curlzy I still recommend CF and repainting.
I have blown 2 of his apart, rebuilt them and blown them apart again.
Now I am rebuilding them again with CF, they won't break after that.

Hope that helps bro.

****,
I am looking into getting some JIMI stickers made for the nose on my boards.
Should look good with the black rails and brightly coloured Dudes.

I am rying to create a personal image that I can be instantly recognized by in photos or videos.
You know, like MR and his superman symbol, or Gerry Lopez and the Lightning Bolt.

I think i'm getting there.

Sea ya,

The board looks awesome with the black sides, might have to steal that idea off ya  ;-)

I started my battery tray mod today.Made a mould of the battery and fiberglassed it. Cut out the existing battery tray to fit the mould and cut off the small ribs on the lid and presto! lid should still be strong without the ribs because its glassed. I also made it so the battery tray slots into the rear wall 5 to 10mm and glassed it all in. My pack  is 145mm x 49mm x 26mm I could fit a maxium of roughly 155mm x 50mm x 28mm . I'll get pics up soon as its finished.

Seb

that cam is pretty clear! love the flips your pulling off thats wicked.

    Greetings surfers.

I tried attaching a small video camera to my transmitter ( instead of a helmut) to try and get some surf video.  It worked pretty well, except I needed to point it up a little more.  First video showed a lot of shore waves, but not much of  the dudette !!.  Second and third were better, but I forgot to use the zoom, so she looked a little small . All three videos were too craptacular to post !!  Deffinetly worth exploring again.  I'll post some video when it is half decent.  You guys have great videos, so you have set the bar pretty high !!!

I also have a small video camera ( cheap crap !! ) that I might try to mount on the board , to get some on board action shots.  The extra weight might be a problem. Maybee if I remove chinese Lisa  but leave the camera for a couple of rounds, I might get some cool footage.  Any thoughts?
The camera was cheap, so I'm not concerned with wrecking it.

I talked to a full size surfer I know, and he said the surfing is generally pretty poor here on the lower Island.  To get decent waves, I'll have to go to the west coast of the upper Island . This means Tofino.   Kinda a long drive !!  I'm still going to search down near me first.

 Later, boys !

So far I helped myself printing each of the 47 (!!) pages of this thread into a PDF file and join all 47 PDF-files into one PDF-file.
Then searching is easy.

Nevertheless, a contents page would be a good idea, indeed!

Best to find a way to mount the camera on the board WITH The Lisa Figure on it,
As The Figure is needed to self right the board ...

Come to think about it, if you want to attach a board cam, I suggest to lose the Lisa to start with as she will just be a pain when trying to fit a waterproof camera.

Attach the cam so the lens is at the highest point (you don't want to film the nose of the board) If the camera is shooting upside down or side on (all depends on what camera you have), no problem, when you edit the footage just rotate it 90 or 180 degrees so it is level on screen.

Than attach a small piece of foam or a balloon to the top of the camera to assist with self-righting.

As long as it is not a 35mm professional camera and is only 5 to 7mm high, the balloon should bring the board 90 degrees to the water level, the weight of the board should flip it back to zero degrees as the camera's weight is low on the board.

Will look weird surfing without a figure, but i'm sure a small camera (with no optical zoom) should capture something interesting.

John from Maui did it but it didn't look as good as when real surfers do it. But hey, no harm in trying.

We definitely need more surfing footage!!

My Lisa figure by herself weighs just under 5 ounces.  My camera also weighs just under 5 ounces.  They are almost identicle in weight !  I think both together will be too much and it won't self right.  I could be wrong ,though.  Since I added a bit of weight to my keel to balance Lisa, I think it should surf in a similar fashion with just the camera.  I might have to add something to the deck to give it some hight though. Kind of like the way your transmitter feels different with the antenna extended.  It weighs the same, but balances better.

This is ,of course, just a theory.!!   It could end up at the bottom of Juan de Fuca Strait !!
