Hey Boyz....

I'm still in San Clemente...

I just finished charging my batteries, looking at 1500 images, and 5 batteries worth of video!!!

Heading back out for more...a couple photos????

Gray Cloudy Marine layer kind of day...not sure whats up with my camera...sure making the water look delicious....

getting closer to a barrel

The pros are starting to get here for the Hurley Pro...caliber of Surfing is going through the roof!

They seem as excited as the regular folk when they see Nikki in action...I just keep handing out them there cards...

I just love San Clemente...if I can figure out how to make a living...I would move here full time...for now it's where I spend my days off...

Maui...Time to come home.

Ok, maybe I am being selfish...wanting to Surf with you regularly

Aloha Dom,

Kudos for great web site - you sure move fast in towards your vision & goals.
I admire & commend you for all that you're doing for our wonderful sport.

I did'nt know that you raced those offshore inflatable cats - SA & Oz folks are nuts with what they are doing with those things.
Wish I could have done that when I was younger!
What boats did you use?

Thanks Hugh !......rcSurfing has been an absolute STOKE for me thus far....

When we raced Inflatables, Lisa-Marie was my Co- Pilot. We raced in the late 80' into the 90's . First raced a 'Neptune' round nose tunnel hull, then we were awarded a Team sponsorship from 'Stingray' when the pencil nose tunnel hull was launched. It was a great period for us.
After that , we got into Free Style Surf 'stand up' Jet skiing.........which was the ultimate for both of us.

Then we started our family.........LOL.....the most extreme thing we have ever done......LOL

Hope you get some classic surf soooooooon!.....looking forward to your photos and videos

Bro rcSurfer

Even more Pros today...the Hurley Pro starts Sat...

Got there and forgot the hatch wingnuts in the Van...DOOHH!
When I got back, Nikki was ready to charge.

only ran a couple packs ...it was just too crowed with excellent Surfers. I like to hang out on the inside a cherry pick nice waves Surfers fall off of...these guys were not falling off many waves...

did manage a few nice ones.

Met a lot of the Hurley people and several shapers that were fasinated by my board...you can imagine...Shapers!

Headed up to Cottons...it was less crowed and had nice waves...

Waves seem to move faster here...maybe its my imagination...

Cottons was nice...headed back now with charged batteries...

Dom....Set up an account with Photobucket(or something similar, I use Photobucket...its free)
I created a special album(you can have many) for Rc Surfer posts...be careful not to move the photos or change the name of the album...or you will get the frog in ice...

once uploaded...you now use the 'image' tab in the toolbar

[img] [/img] ..just paste the 'direct link' to the photo in between....you have beautiful full page photos.

Life becomes complicated with sponsors...

The 'Divas love to free Surf...I'd hate to take that away...

gotta say I was a little star struck...the man himself!...I think he had a crush on Nikki...I know she has one on him!

Still have tons of photos and video to go through....

OMG Tom !

That is incredible. I only wish you would have tilted your helmet Cam more on Ke11y.
That Video would have gone Viral for you and Rc surfing.

It's a classic regardless....

Are you going back during the Hurley Pro when it's in full swing???

Kite - if you are back surfing there and see Mr KS again ask him to try your surfer girl.....
It would be interesting to see what he can do.................
Your rc surfing is reaching new levels & it's exciting to see.
That board you built surfs like one of Maui John's masterpieces.

Maui may have waves Mondayish......can hardly wait!

having trouble with Photobucket this weekend...won't letb me upload any images...

Dom...thanks for the props! I have had a vision of what I wanted...and it's finally getting there...18 boards and 8 surfer girls later!

Curlz..http://.http://www.surfline.com/surf-news/hurley-pro-preview_76322/

haven't decided if I am going...it going to be a zoo...and I don't like zoos.

'Point' will be closed to all non competitors all week...I guess that means early dawn patrol until they kick you out. Surfing on the edges won't be worth the crowds...besides, Melika has been complaining that she doesn't have a ride yet!

Splashed salt water on my Radio, lost all micro adjustments that morning, almost went home, board was pulling to the right...have ordered another...gotta learn to get out of the water after launch.

Surf forecast looks good down here next week...so I guess No...but that could change.

Hugh...I think the time for fun and games has passed...those guys are serious and once the competition has begun they will be super focused.... I imagine there will be security to keep people away....next time I see him I will offer for sure.

thank you for the comparison to Maui's boards..the ultimate compliment

Maui...Someone at work asked what he had said, ???? I could'nt remember...still in a daze from that trip....so I was listening to the footage without the Salsa...Someone came up and started talking with him right after my 'Duhh" comment but you can hear at 00:35 I get a Wow! out of Slater!

Atta girl Nikki! He won't forget you.

These are leaves from my garden, and the one that looks like a cannabis leaf is a maple japan.

otherwise small question, some of my little cdepuis batteies lipo 4s 3000 20c or 40c are slightly inflated and very hot after use and when they cool it is ok.
problem of battery ? or overheating esc ?..

yes   the lipos swell up ,, i get any were from 100 to 300 charges out of them ,, for me the nano tects  were the worst ,,and the cheaper ones lasted longer ..

for me the secret  is coming in early and not running to lipo  cut off  ,,  when a cell gets below 3.60 it can be damaged .. the weakest link is are bat tiers ,

running a low kv helps the batts ,,, not suck to much power at once .. i wish i new more about lipo swelling maybe some other guys know more ?

What to-day lacked in surf conditions was made up for by the absolutely awesome weather....Azure blue skies and sea....STUNNING !

We surfed on the other side of the peninsula to-day - at Blouberg beach - located in Table Bay - boasting one of the more recently awarded 'Wonders of the World "Table Mountain" as well as 'Robin Island' in the background, where Nelson Mandela was jailed for over 26 years.

Only had a short session - very few 'bumpy' waves....always a blast !

No Maui still has no waves - forgotten how long it's been since I rc surfed.
We are expecting waves tomorrow...

I water tested my 2 new indentical boards today, water tight and self righting - so I can surf them tomorrow.
My Vee bottom board hops badly - so this afternoon I took some of the tail rocker out using divinicel & epoxy - will see if it is better tomorrow.
I don't think I put in enough nose rocker either - oh well.....

Loaded my truck up with 4 different boards, tools, lots of batteries, camera and ready for early start

Dom - My younger sister lives 2 blocks back from Blouberg Beach on Dolphin Drive.
The water is so freezing cold there....but it does get some good waves. Great place for kitesurfing too.

Howzit Hugh...

It sure has been a 'calm spell' in Maui.........one of the many great things about Cape Town .....if you are willing to travel around.....there is 'always' a wave to be had.

I do hope you have a 'swell' session today.

With your new boards -is the weight identical ?
I see you are taking no chances with water intrusion.....
Your surfer babe looks great...well tanned.

I found with my V builds that the V shape actually 'increases' the tail rocker. so if you have positive rocker, its 'emphasized even more'. Comparing the V hull boards I built to the V hull rc boats, I also realized that for the rc boats - for the most of their running time, they are at WOT, only having to overcome the porpoise when starting off. the small trim tabs run at the back of V hull boats have a greater effect because of the high 'speed' the boat runs at.

With the rc Surfer - there is plenty of stop start - with little WOT. Trying to overcome the porpoise effect with major negative rocker/big tail tabs IMO was simply counter productive.

I have settled on the flat bottom hull with 'emphasized' nose rocker to compensate for the 0 degree tail rocker. The 'actual symmetrical shape' of my boards by design alows the leaning effect and the tail been able to dig/sink in better, with the nose having more lift/buoyancy.
The one down side is some bounce on choppy/bumpy water.......but its not an issue.

The Atlantic ocean sure is cold - Blouberg has become the wind/kite surfing Meca.......we have teams/developers from all over the world visiting the West Coats to train and test equipment.
If your sister ever visits the beach please ask her to come and say hi to me......

I was picturing an INTERNATIONAL rc Surfer "Red Bull" event on the beach...........these fellers pull more attention on the beach than anything I have ever seen.

Bro rcSurfer

The template set for my 'shred'A' board.....I have to make up my own blanks to achieve the nose rocker that measures 80mm at the point.
