Hello to everyone and thank you for all of the great information that I have been learning from.  Unfortunately, I have done a very poor job of separating the many different ideas into what I should do with my new surfer.  I am going to list my questions and or concerns and ask respectfully for a little assistance from the experts.

I recently bought a NQD Lisa off of Ebay... ( I know it is the lower end of things.. but it's a start for me. It won't be long before I begin shaping my own.)

In the mean time:
What is the best board sealing technique? Is it over kill to glass the whole hull? Should I use plastic filler in the deck screw holes? etc....

What is the best Lisa sealing technique? Has anyone sprayed her with "Stop Leak" rubber spray or similar spray sealing paint? Should I add spray foam inside of her for strength or does that add too much weight?

What is the best  Motor - ESC -Battery - Propeller and Radio combo for the NQD? I have read many posts written over the years but I have yet to see what is considered the new "standard" best way to go. (without over spending)

I know this is a lot to ask in one message but I am getting migraines trying to capture so many ideas from so many different places and times. I am hoping someone has the "newbie"  list consolidated and up to date.  If I could I would send it away and have someone do my initial setup.  But, unfortunately I can not afford to do that.  Plus I would get a  lot more knowledge and skill development from doing it myself.

Thank you all that respond in advance,

RC Resin ator-  I would think that your 48" should be on around a 45 to 50mm prop depending on motor kv.   On my 40" I have a 1.4 pitch 42mm dia. and 1000kv motor. It is about right for what i can tell ( I haven't used it very much).

If i knew then what i know now i would have split the deck..... instead i roughed up the plastic and epoxied strips of fiberglass along the seam.... filled in the screw holes to reduce rusting, better surface for deck seal to stick to and a better finish
I drilled a hole in the front for drainage as well but on the deck with a small rubber plug in it.

The rudder post cracked and leaked too so drilled out and glued a brass tube inside a little higher and epoxied around it to add strengthover where it cracked.

atm my engine mount bracket hasn't broken from the plastic yet but do have a foam block under front of motor to maybe reduce bounce when hitting hard.

you will prob have to change the propshaft/housing as well as many other things... would recommend BB or Surfcurl for more info too as they have done heaps of them

if it helps my one runs a 2400kv motor with a 3s batt atm... 3600kv with 2s would work..... the epoxy glue sticks better if you rough up the plastic.

just my opinion but i'm no expert.

Watching Dom rc surfing Cape Town waves - make me want to head to SA with my toys.
Pity it is so far away!
Maui still has winter waves but it is just too windy & waves are totally blown out in most spots.

 Hugh,

Come here to San Clemente!!!

I had another 4 pack go out day........ Perfect size, max set waves were about 4 foot faces, but mostly 2-3 ft
Glassy and really fun. My new fin & linkage setup worked perfectly.
Special thanks to MJ for the fin.

We went down to Newport for a quick session, The conditions weren't great but got two battery packs in. My wife did a great job trying to film with a P&S cam since my camcorder died this morning. Nothing great but I got out for the first time this year.

Thanks John
Everything I did I learned from this thread about a year ago. Thanks for all the help guys.

I started with a Boardshark I bought back in 2007 then rediscovered it 2012.
I put in a flex drive, 3060 brushless, 120amp esc, 5000mah 3s lipo, and a lot of lead in the keel.

Hugh,

I don't quite know what to say......... I'm stunned that your GoPro mount works so well!!!!!
How in the world did you get the balance and stability worked out????
Have you tried it riding waves?

Thanks for sharing......... You the Man

InDaTube - reality is that I have NOT got it all worked out ....yet
It seems quite stable while under power, view is ok for Big Waves - I think
I still have to work out quicker self righting - as GoPro keeps board from flipping upright when in calm water.....

Later.....................

Hi Guys,

Well, I finished up my fin setup and linkage project.
Installed a brand new fin shaft tube with a slide in cross drilled bearing setup.
Then I customized a new steering arm that clamps onto the .25in fin shaft rod.
I also drilled the top of the rod and set in a threaded brass machine screw with the head cut off.
Now, I install the fin, clock it correctly, clamp on the arm and secure with the brass knob.
Even if the clamp fails, I won't loose the fin............ again!!!
New Saying......... I now do it nice cuz....... I lost'em TWICE !!!
Thanks MJ for the new fins.......

Hi all enthusiasts.... so many cats out of bags atm hard to know where to go seek look and enjoy these days

Hugh
that recent vision is certainly another way to film... 5 stars for you... nice to see silver surfer up and running again after the broken legs thing ... must be a strong puppy now being able to be head held and walked from the sea to land hey lol... great stuff all good

maui john
in a perfect world i would have a miniature surfer with a cool board that surfs like a surfer with my head around the fact he rides a boat
in reality i have a bro/maui inspired halfcast 28" kyosho based foamy in progress... kinda hard to get the Hawaiin style happenin with Bro's realitys of fact but..... lol

Anyway here is a pic of my hybrid bearcave 70 trip... posting progress in the oz rcsurfer forum... and imo kites new site is like the "rcsurferwikipedia" of modern times.

best regards to all and always checkin in bearcave

MP was a special character when i was real surfin....  morning of the earth .... nice link

something shaped like the red/white D'bar special i aim to have rcsurfing one day.. atm my trip has wide point bit more forward no flyers with ugly batt box shaped on top.. the shapin has gone ok but glassin is another ride... not even close to tuning rocker/rail shapes yet but hoping to try out many sealing ideas with the deck.

imo time is hard to get but the key to learning new stuff.... you may already know shapin and glasin stuff but if not reco learning as much as you can whithin the chemical room while you have the time.... makin your own MP is the go..... just sayin
