oh, i didn't see that you had mentioned you were going to England and making the purchase there.
and i agree, saving some $$$ on a purchase is a good thing, i just prefer to buy from an American supplier, you know, to help keep Americans in business so they will be there when we need them.

I too like to buy from local suppliers and manufacturers when I can. They do, however, have to be competitive to earn my business. In this case there is just too much difference. I want a Laser 150, and Proctor prices it at $545.50 plus shipping. I can buy the thing in the UK for less than $382 (current exchange rate) after processing a VAT rebate form after bringing it back to the US. That is a $164 difference, or 30%. Plus, we will probably pick it up at the factory, and hope to get a tour. As an engineer, I always like to tour mfg. facilities. You can get a real sense of their capabilities doing this.

I can now proudly say that I have joined this elite club. What with my recent acquistion of a Laser 150. The gem is meant to power a 1/4 scale Tiger Moth, I would soon start.

Have you run it yet? I have three Lasers - 70, 100 and 150 - and they all run really well. My 150 is in a 1/4 scale Space Walker. So far it has had about 10 flights and EVERY time I have needed to start it, it has started on the first backflip. Just prime by choking the carby with a finger for about half a second then apply the glow and with one backflip she starts every time. Brilliant.

Do let us know how it goes. It should be great in the Tiger Moth. A friend has one in his Tiger Moth built from a Precedent kit and he loves it.

I think it will not be started in near future.
Once my Tiggie is nearing completion, I would start running in the engine so that it is ready. No point running it now since my building is going to progress leisurely

Status: offline 		Changed my mind. Installed Laser 160 Vee in Spacewalker 2,8m wings. Really difficult adjust 2 carbs , Have good fun with this.

I have a 300v on order. Do you have any real world RPM and prop size numbers ?

I'd really like to hear about 3 blade set ups if there are any out there. I am putting together a ESM/YT LA-7 this winter and just starting to learn about Laser Engines.

Thanks for any input. Google knows very little about this engine.

email Joe Topper who owns Proctor enterprises, he ran this engine in his Nieuport N28 for quite some time and knows the engine well.
he is the US distributor for Laser too.

Status: offline 		I just finished building my first Laser-powered plane. It's a 160V2 engine in a Kyosho Pitts Special S2C. (I know I know, WAY too overpowered but that's how I like it)
WS 1190mm, empty weight 4,2 kg.

Nice thing to notice was that even with that 16X10 prop the pulling force is around 6 kilos and the total takeoff weight with full tank of fuel is 4,75 kilos. So this combo will have a lot of qualities I want. I just need to be careful not to do extreme maneuvers while flying top speed as the wing loading is more than what this model is supposed to have. I don't want to see wings fly off when airborne

Status: offline 		Of course there are low rpm's. I just didn't use that part of the powerband. The engine actually idles astonishingly low if/when needed.

Status: offline 		Recently got a 200V for my BUSA Foker DVIII, anyone have a good way to get your fingers in there to tune the low end settings when the engine is hot ...
I am running it on my test stand but cant get to the low settings without burning myself.

Status: offline 		I just came across this thread I've got the 200v the very old 150v and the old 90 the later one with all the improvements new in its box with manual. The 150 needs a good strip down and clean out been run on castor all its life inverted in a cub. It's all choked up a real mess the 200 I got 1 hours run time on it. I've never got round to using them but want to fire them up one day without the mufflers on them.

Status: offline 		Ok just took one of the cylinders off my laser 150 v twin. It's in a really bad state. Lots of castor everywhere never seen an engine so bad. I managed to get the most of it apart. The head is sitting in some old fuel to dissolve the castor that I could'nt scrape off. Going to try and get the valves out enough to clean them and the port it was almost closed up with the castor. I really waanted to take the piston off the conrod but it is either glued on with the castor or it is a compresion fit onto the wrist pin. Does anyone know if I need to heat up the conrod to get the pin out ? Rings were also stuck onto the piston got 1 off but I broke the other trying to get it off the piston. Very cool piston with the middle machined out. Got to say though doesn't look like it has alot of wear for a 27 year old engine. Had alot of use though. I think a new set of rings and bearings it'll be good to go for another 27 years. Cams look good and conrods feel good too.

Status: offline 		This forum seems to have been quiet for almost a year now. I just purchased a Laser 300V engine and would appreciate any input about this engine from folks who also run Laser engines. The Laser brand is not well known in my area but seem to be very popular in Europe.

Status: offline 		There is'nt much to say on how to run them. Very easy to setup and they run forever. But you wanna use synthetic oil. Neil Tidy told me that in an email for my older Laser 90 and 150V. Over here Laser has there own fuel made by model technics I think it is 17% ML70 oil with either 5% nitro or 0% nitro. Some guys run the irvine fuel. A 300v will sound great.

I have three of Laser's great engines - 70, 100 and 150. Lately they have been sitting around so yesterday I took the 100 and its Black Horse ARF Super Decathlon for some air time. Now I know why scale modellers use Lasers. Filled the tank, primed by choking the carby and turning over, attached glow driver and tried a back flip. Engine was too dry so another prime. Started on the next back flip.

I did not do any tuning and she ran as well as she did when I last flew her about 18 months ago.

I think you can say I love my Lasers.
