Most annoying. Definitely a manufacturing defect.

I'd send 'em back to Proctor with a note explaining the problem ... they should make it right and offer you new ones at no cost.

They did.

The new one failed too.

Now, keep in mind these failures were after several hours of operation, but I just got tired of the hassle.

The stock muffler has been issue-free, except that I noticed the other day, when mounting the engine on a new model, that the two O-rings on the manifold extension need replacing.

I ordered a pair from Proctor; haven't seen them yet...

Hi Steve!

Maybe try a good auto parts store for what you need? The "O" rings are just a standard size if I recall.

Maybe I am lucky, but my local auto parts supplier (a serious one mostly catering to trade) carries an amazing range of "O" rings.

You get to pay cents rather than dollars fro them too .

I have a friend who ran large 4 strokes in competitive pattern flying ... and has the same problem with the exhaust flex tubes.

Someone needs to "build a better mousetrap" .

I might make a query on the Pattern forum, it could yield some helpful information on the subject.

I could have found the O-rings locally; but it was just easier to pick up the phone and order them. My time is worth a lot more to me than the few extra bucks I spent ordering them; and I'll do just about anything to avoid going into Baton Rouge traffic; ESPECIALLY at this time of year.

you can pretty much PM anyone who has posted their running results with their Lasers in this thread............i felt the same way at first (basically trying to justify the cost) and after recieving my 80, it was about a week or so that i ordered the 200V.................to anyone who knows and appreciates quality, one only has to look at and feel a Laser to get their jollies off ...........without question, the Laser is a serious engine and will be on your most loved engine list.
your lucky, your right their in the same country where they are made........us Americans have to wait a few weeks to get them.

Thanks for the reply Summerwind, Yeah we are quite lucky here in the UK and should receive the engine within a couple of days if the chosen engine is in stock.
The first laser I saw was way back in 1994 and I though some day I ve got to have one of those! It was a laser 75 in a Sig Astrahog and it sounded and run perfect.
Later that same year at RAF Woodvale I saw a laser 300 powered Zero designed, built and flown by Len Gardiner..it was awsome! ...think RCMW have the plans now? At the same event I also saw Brian Taylor fly his P47 Razerback with a laser 150...brilliant!!
Nearly 14yrs later I think i ve made my mind up and will go for the laser 120...should fit my currently OS 60 engined Astrahog nicely.
I will keep everyone posted.

Cheers

getting ready to run my 80, and soon to have the 200V and will be buying fuel to use in both.
what i'm not sure of though is what fuel here in the States is best for these engines.
right now i have Wildcat 10% premium extra which is 18% oil content (80% syn and 20% castor)..............might be OK for a couple of bench runs, but those of you running these engines, do you have any recommendations for fuel?

according to Laser's site, the ideal fuel is no nitro and 15% syn oil with 5% nitro content being OK and probably increasing idle reliability.

I have used 14% aerosave 10% nitro with good results (Laser 200V, 150)

13% Motul Micro, 2 % castor, 85% methanol on a LASER 300-V.

It has on board glow ignition. Flies a GP "Patty"Extra with authority, although not with as much authority as the DA-50 that previously powered it. But it looks and sounds sooo much better.

thx for the input...........i need to find the comparable mix here in the US.
closest is the cool power 5%....17% synthetic

but i hear nothing good about this fuel.

or Wildcat 5%, 16% oil content (80% syn, and 20% racing castor)

I have three Laser 150's and a 180. which I've been running for ten+ years on nothing but Wildcat 4 cycle 15% nitro, 18% straight synthetic. You shouldn't use and don't need any castor. Save the castor for your Moki two stroke. You really don't need 15% nitro, 5% works fine. I fly at 6,000' elevation and need a little extra boost. Tower sells most all the Wildcat fuels they produce.

SW, I bought some WildCat 5%/16% 80/20/syn/castor blend for my Laser .70, I found it works equally well in my Enyas and Saitos. Three of my fourstrokes are 17 years old and the use of castor is simply not an issue.
