Guys, I've got a brand new Fuji 24 (magneto version) that I can not get started even with my electric starter. I believe the problem is that it is not getting any spark. I removed the plug and placed the base next to the cylinder head to get a good connection. Rotated the prop and I get zero spark. There is a male spade on the magneto that is not connected to anything. Should this spade have a wire connected to it running somewhere? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Jerry.

Got a PM from Larry suggesting I use my high speed (glow) starter instead of my cordless drill to try to start it. Using the higher speed starter I was able to confirm that I do have spark. I checked needle settings and they are correct, 3/4 high, 1 3/8 low. Still will not fire even using the high speed starter. I even shot fuel down the carb throat and I didn't get any fire either. Not sure at this point what I can do except send it back. Any ideas Fuji? Thanks, Jerry.

Took the plane to the field today to let some experts look at it. Something wrong with this guy. Got it all packaged up to send in for service. This is my fifth Fuji engine. Had a good streak going there. We'll see what they find.

Any news on this problem? I have the same problem.

I had the magneto version and they found nothing wrong with it. I was trying to hand start it. I ended up using my electric starter on it for the first couple of gallons and then I was able to hand start it. Ran fine, I have three Fuji motors and they all run great.

Hi Guys:

I just sent "jbarnes" a e-mail that maybe I should have posted, At any rate I will post it now.

Starting a magneto engine it is very important to "time the prop" . By that I mean, without a prop rotate the crankshaft by hand to get the piston to Top Dead Center. Just grasp the drive washer and slowly rotate the crank until you feel the crank go over center at the top. The crank can be easily rocked back and forth at TDC and the feel is unmistakeable. Leave the crank at TDC and install the prop between 1 and 2 o-clock. Then as the engine is hand propped the magneto magnets will have the best possible rotational speed as they pass the pick up sensor.

This will work every time. Magneto engines are my personal favorites, my Fuju BT-34B is a sweetheart. After prime it will start on the second flip almost every time and the third flip for sure.

Best to all,

E T
