I's a very happy bunny 'cos I finally got to fly an autogyro...yesterday.

I bought a PT25 from eBay, complete with servos and ASP .28. It's quite a tidy machine. Yesterday was the first opportunity that I have had to test the machine.

First flight, I managed a ROG and about 10 minutes flying, especially exploring the low-speed end of its handling. But, on landing, the machine gently tipped onto its right side. So, back to the instruction book. Oh yes, it says to apply full forward stick once the main gear has touched. This is quite tricky for a fixed-wing pilot to do, but I did manage it on the next flight....behold, the gyro stayed on its undercarriage. Splendid!

Struggled a bit with subsequent ROG though, so resorted to hand launches: very straightforward and easy. I think that the problem is small wheels and rather tufty grass.

Just thought I'd let the world know how pleased I am. I've been sneaking round the edges of the autogyro scene for several years and this is the first chance I've had to fly one.... other than a twin-rotor job, which I don't fancy. The big problem is that, in the UK, there would seem to be no kits available...at least, I can't find any. So, we have to import from the States, which is a bit of a pain...plus, we get collared by Customs.

Anyway, once I've properly learned how to fly this PT, I shall experiment with other models...I have a plan for a Whistler.... and the Cabezas DC Gyro.

Sorry, I don't have any pics.

Hi,
Congratulations!! A successful first flight is a good feeling.

Getting these gyros to stay upright when landing on a windy day can be challenging even for the experienced gyro pilot. It's also a difficult choice of landing on a paved runway or the grass. Landing on a paved runway is eaiser but if it does tip over it usually results in more damage to the blades.

The PT gyro is a good first choice and the best of luck.

Phil

Glad to hear you are enjoying the PT25. ROG's will come soon enough and you'll really like that. We finally got some more 25's in stock just in time for the spring building season.
