Now that the predator II has been out for a while, what does everyone that had one think about it in relation to the viper or the orginal predator?? Is it a hit or a miss. How does the tail line up with the wing? Improved construction? falts? etc.

I bought two kep one and traded off the other one. The one i kep is great had no prob. with it at all. I even ran it in a race after my Viper took a nose dive because the wing came off. Some people like to bad mouth the Pred 2 ,but personly I love mine.

At the moment they want us to put a Thunder Tigar 40 Pro. on it but that has been known to change from year to year. I just race with the sportsman guys. Cant hang with those ritch 428 guys. and this year so far I.m taking a break from racing due to I have other things that need to be done first. But I will be back. Even if there is no racing in your area Find someone with the same setup as you and ask them if they want to race. That in my opp. is what racing is all about.

I bought a new PII last year. The tail lined up very well and had no problem with elevator trim on the frist flight. The wing was another story. After the crazy first flight wich took full aileron deflection and some rudder to bring it back down. I measured the wing tips to be 4 degrees different. I currently fly with a TT40 and Mag 40. Our area also allows Supertiger 40 and old OS 40fp.

I got a Predator II last year, and it has been a bit disappointing. The wing was not straight, it took quite a bit of aileron trim (like 3/32", i.e. like half of the total throw!) just to get it to fly straight. Surprisingly, the trim does not change from idle to full throttle. After a few weeks, the covering on the fuselage started to peel/fall off, starting at the nose. I had to re-cover the front of the fuselage, to avoid the wood getting fuel-soaked even worse. I have also flown a few Vipers, and don't care for the twitchy pitch response (even with exponential), they seem to hunt around a lot; at least in this respect, the Predator II handles better. As far as I am concerned, the market is still wide open for a really good 424 class ARF.

I have had several Vipers and have never experienced any "hunting" of the nose. All of mine have been very stable in the pitch axis. The ailerons are too small though.

I suppose the Viper IS the better of the two Q500 ARF's. I've heard the Viper airfoil is "faster" and the wing tips certainly look more aerodynamic. The Viper's Monokote covering is definitely better than whatever no-name film the Predator II is covered with. For only the $10 more that the Viper costs, it's an easy decision which one to get. Still, I'd rather have a good ole Fliteline Scat Cat, Hobbico Viper or Direct Connection Doddger, as far as rock-solid handling and accurate tracking are concerned.

I got my heat gun out and then twisted the wing and put some heat to it. I let the wing cool before I took the presure off the wing.

I got a Pred II in January last year, no wing or tail problems, have raced it on 424 and 428 events with th tt40 and a Jett barstock. Only thing I did was to add super glue to the firewall and wing hold downs along with toothpicks. I fly it evey weekend.

Hi Guys,
the next Hodges Hobbies 424 race in Americus GA is on March 24th! This will be the 3rd time I make the trek from NC down there. Yeah, it's quite a drive, but it's been a lot of fun too.
