west6008 -> Anybody enter RCAF 1959 model contest? (3/5/2007 8:49:14 PM)

I thought this might be a fun sort of oldtimer roll call. In 1959, to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Flight in Canada and the 35th year of the RCAF, the RCAF sponsored a static model building contest. Different areas were assigned different subjects, and the top prizes were trips to the CNE, Calgary Stampede, and I believe there was a European trip. Since I lived in Alberta, I had to build the Siskin 111A a 30's British biplane fighter that the early RCAF flew. I lived on a farm at the time, and submitted a model. I was very proud of the propellor that I carved from a piece of cedar fencepost, and I still have the certificate of appreciation from Air Vice Marshall Hugh Campbell
