OK, here's a shot of me (31 yrs ago! - back of photo says summer 1976) hand-launching the PP .15 - This is my original, first build plane. No running, just a firm toss from a standing start.

Thanks, Nick, for the great photo.

Which .15 powered yours?

The original had a Fox .15 R/C, running an 8x4

Current one has a Magnum XL .15, much better power. I'm turning an APC 7x5 at about 13k

Here's a picture of a later PPII, done in yellow/green. I flew this plane at the '83 Nats at Westover AFB, MA. My final standing was 27th in Master's class. That's as good as I got, I guess.

Notice the "Magic Muffler" - I was fed up with the sensitivity of tuned pipes, and this was a good, broad-band alternative. Also, it didn't alter the L/R flight characteristics as much.

The white stripe on the right wing LE is because the green would disappear on landing with a tree line in the background.

My Super Tigre G20/15 and HB .15's really sang a song of power running an old nylon Top Flite 7x4. Oddly enough, the HB .15 was much more powerful than the ST. Considering that the ST was made/developed for 1/4 Midget pylon racing, I was surprised that the HB would easily out turn it. I have recently bought some HB .15 engines off folks on eBay. Hopefully, my first one wasn't a freak.

The old Fox .15 R/C engines were good engines.

I've owned a few of the Magnum .15BB engines and they are strong.

I would have had difficulty seeing the PPII because of the color selection.

My PP was done in red Super Monokote. I like red because it turns to black against clouds, ensuring that at least I can see something.

At the time that I had the PP, all of my main radios were Kraft and were too large for such ventures. I then proceded to build Ace's Digital Commander Tx and Rx, plus four or five Bantam Midget servos. Those servos were a life saver for anyone wanting to fly smaller pattern ships. I even flew the Bantam Midgets in a Kaos .40 with an Enya .40CX with pipe. That too was a honking model, for its day.

Now that I have an old original kit of the PP, I'm also interested in obtaining plans for the PP with a built-up wing structure.

Here's the only photos I have of the .40 PP

These stripes are 4" wide. I got lazy making off the color scheme, notice the nose bleeds into the top, not separate with pin stripe detail.

That's a beautiful model too. I don't remember it being sold...?

I'll bet the PP would be a real hit if someone made a high powered electric version of the model.

I can't imagine how fast PP would be with a really fast powerplant up front, such as the Cox .15, Fox .15, MVVS .15 or the .21 engines others have mentioned.

Ed Cregger

My very first .15 PP flight was with an engine like that. Old-time Pylon guru, Jerry Wagner (RIP, old buddy), lent me an unthrottled Fox .15 that he "worked on" - It ran untimed crank pressure, a huge intake, polished ports, and turned and 8-4 prop cut to 7" at 17,000 rpm. Pattie's first flight was, well, very exciting. The R/C Sportsman article chronicles this. I immediately switched to a std Fox .15 R/C engine.

My big Patties were radar clocked at 110 mph level, and that flight was MUCH faster!

wedj; Is the plan for the pp15 just 1 sheet? It was my first plane built in 1984 after being away from the hobby for a few years. I'll never forget the first hand launch....and I do mean launch!! Yikes!! But it flew on rails and did what was asked of it. I would like to order the plans, just need to know cost in full and will send check....Thanks....ex N.E. flyer...puplover

Hi,

Yes, it is just one sheet $15.00, please.

You know, we could short kit the .15 very easily. I'd be willing to trace the curved parts in cad and AK Models does great laser cutting work at remarkable prices (I used them for my Sure Shark kits). Someone here could probably cut a run of cores. It's something to think about.

I love flying the small stuff. Here's my own design, the Sure Shark:
