Which tail setup do you have for the blade cp, and the blade cp pro?

If you have the time you might explain more about why you have what you have, and how long the motors last in the setup and what kind of flying you do. Some other ideas are, tail holding power, longevity of motors, convience (either didn't have to change, or your supplier had the parts in stock), what prop you are using, crashability, repairability, weight, cost. Maybe also include what other types of tail systems you have tried, or pictures of your setups.

It might be good to see what kind of setups people have for what kinds of flying and what kinds of reliability. I am sure every setup has pro's and con's and fits some situations better than others. If this info can be brought together, it will help people decide what setup they should go with.

I keep mine stock. I've never gone more than 4 flights on any of the GWS upgrades before the motor burned out. Stock will go for months. I also think the DD upgrade is too much for these things. With my stock motor I look somewhat professional, but with DD my heli flies like I'm having a seizure. Of course, I'm not a 3-d flier yet so maybe when that time comes I'll want something more responsive, but still not happy with the GWS quality.

Just my opinion of course.

I've been very happy with E-flite so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they put the stock motor on for a reason.

Would a brushless tail motor work well because brushless never wears out? And i heard that you only get about 10h of flight time with each motor

Don't know too much about brushless. I just recently moved to a T-Rex which is my first experience with brushless. I do know that the stock motor I had on my CP when I pulled it out of the box just burned up about 2 weeks ago. So from October to Feb averaging at least 3 fifteen minute flights every day... I think I got my money's worth on the stock motor. I've been through 2 GWS DD motors since my stock burned up, so I'm fed up. Went back to stock. Stock Main rotor still running strong.

I use the DD GWS Although it is better than stock because no gears, It still will not hold all that well with the brushless motor since I don't have the HH Gyro yet. It works well with the stock 370 motor much better than the stock settup

Being a former CP Pro owner I tried the DD upgrade that lasted 10 seconds. I messed with and tossed a ton of money at the pro with the same results fly for 2 mintues repair for 2 hours. Bought a T Rex 450 V2 havent missed a beat. If you want to get into a belt drive cheap. Get ahold of betapilot in the Esky forum. I bought a BB King II from him B/l set up test flown for about 200 bucks. I needed something to toss around at the house and its a great helicopter. Buy the time you upgrade the Pro to fly right you can be in the HB King II fro less money and hassle. Oh ya the belt system on the Esky works great. Good Luck Mike

Done it all, well most of it. Stock > dual > gws dd > brushless dd. Now I am ready to back to the dual which added the durability without the wag the dd tail has. DD just seems to powerful, at least in my case. Can't seem to get it to calm down. I was ready to go back to the dual until I saw on another forum the freestyle hobbies belt drive upgrade. It got great reviews and while I said I would never spend anymore on upgrades this one has me thinking.

I’m running the Micro-Heli dual tail with stock motors. It has worked great for me. I got the CPP used from a buddy so I don’t know how many flights the tail motors have on them. I have at least 25-30 flights on these used tail motors. Granted, I am just learning so the first 10-15 flights were all on the floor of the garage. I’m hovering side in and starting to fly small circuits and pirouettes now so the tail motors are getting worked harder.

I just replaced the first burned out motor yesterday. When one of the motors went out it took me a bit to figure it out because the bird kept flying, but the tail stopped holding. I kept adding more rudder trim until I finally checked the tail motors.

The dual tail does add weight so you have to add some weight to the nose to balance it out, but all in all I think it’s worth it. However, I can’t compare the dual tail to the stock single as I haven’t flown the CPP in the stock configuration. ~Onad

The best solution for the CP's crappy tail is a Trex. having said that, my trex is currently experiencing a mild case of "busted-parts-cuz-the-ground-is-harder-than-plastic"-itis so I dragged my Pro out and spent an evening fixing a few things that I havnt bothered to care about in the past several months. I was running a brushless main, DD tail, telebee HH gyro, and stock everyting else. The tail did finally burn out on me but only after at least 50 flights or so and a few tail-involved crashes, and thats not just hovering around either. So i replaced the motor and added a GWS ics-50 esc to control the tail motor, which also did away with the 3-1 (esc for the main, new esc for the tail, HH gyro, no need for 3-1!!!) and holy cow what a difference. I can do a full collective climb out in idle up and the tail barely budges. Piro rate is almost as insane as jeffrey dalmer, and during fairly fast backward flight, it stays manageable, not rock solid but hey, its a CPP. No telling yet how long this motor will last with the new esc pushing more amps through it but they are pretty cheap from Tower and no soldering required to change it out when used with the ics-50, all good things in my book. Now, if i can just keep my Rex out of the dirt...

Adding on to my previous post: Another small upgrade is the carbon fiber tail rotor. It is lighter and seems to perform better and I assume is easier (less load) on the motors than the stock plastic. It also seems to be more durable to tail strikes (gear mesh pins on the plastic break easily). Not sure if that is a good thing though?? Replacing a $10 motor vs. a $4 plastic tail rotor…

I agree that a Trex or other more expensive birds are going to fly a lot better, but for some of us just scrapping up $$’s for CPP replacements parts is a challenge while saving for a $800+ bird is a long term goal. I’d rather be flying a sketchy CPP than not flying at all...

My buddy has Trex 600’s and 450’s so I have seen the differences. ~O

I've tried, dual tail, direct drive, and stock on my Blade CP Pro. From my experience the CP Pro is best left stock.

If you want a solid tail you really need to go to a belt drive heli. The HBK2 is a great inexpensive entry-level belt drive heli. That being said, there is no comparison to a TREX 450 with 401 Gyro and S9650 servo.

I still enjoy flying my CP Pro around the yard. In fact, I just got back in from flying 2 packs with my CP Pro.

This may have been covered in another thread somewhere but I went with this for my BLade. and it is now much more fun to fly.

http://www.freestyle-hobby.com/catalog/index.php

it's a fairly cheap belt drive kit that works with stock frame, all you need is the G90 and a tail servo.

was a breeze to install and makes the tail quite stable.

I got tired of the stock tail blade of my Blade CP Pro hitting the ground, So I trimed approx 1/8" off of each tip. I cant tell if it has affected the tail any at least the way I fly the machine,(No 3-D). I just fly the helicopter around the yard. But now the tail motors seem to last a little longer.

I think its a great heli in stock form. In the last 8 months
I've only replaced the tail motor twice.

I also cut about 1/4 inch off each tail blade end. Better
ground clearance and maybe less load on the motor. My
tail holds very well with the stock 3 in 1.

Still running the stock 370 main motor.
