I finished the plane setup today, put it on the ground to check lateral CG and the landing gear bent. There is no way it would withstands my landings. Tomorrow I'll cut new one from 6061 Aluminum and I'll add some wheel pants I've found from my previous buildings leftovers. I still hope for maiden this week.

Here is my Zlin . It is finished, new landing gear + wheel pants, ready for maiden. For my surprise, I didn't have to add any weight except 7g on tip of the wing to counterbalance the engine.

So far so good, eh. LG and pants look great. Keep an eye on the control rods, you'll find that they are way too soft and flexable also. Changed mine after the third flight with CF rods. Good luck with the maiden!

Thanks, Mando. I've took your advice and changed the tail control linkage to CF. I don't want to jeopardize her first flight. It is better to do it now than later.

Maiden this morning. Preflight check - rudder servo is dead. Next week I'll try again.

The wheel pants I've used are from Great Planes RV-4 I had in my hands. I like them because they are more "bubbly" than stock for 40-60 size airplane.

BTW I had maiden yesterday. She is flying like on rails, if you fly it fast. Stall speed is pretty high, all of a sudden left wing drops like crazy. If this happen on landing approach 5ft above the ground, you will go home with plastic bag full of balsa. I guess it's due to CG position, over this weekend I'm going to play around and move it at 1/4" forward and will see. The throws for ailerons - approx 5/8" up/down are ok, elevator - 1/2" up/down are way too much. I did extreme snap at the top of loop with 20% elevator, I'll lower the rate to 50% by adjusting control rod - I still want to keep full servo travel movement. The engine I'm using - Magnum 70 4stroke seems to have very little power to fly it, I'll try to use different prop sizes to get optimum rpm. Next week - next try.

Got some more flights in today, and with some help of flying buddy, FlyJay, got another opinion with some good comments of the set up and flight caricaturistics of the Zlin . Wringing it out caused another horizontal stab-brace failure. That's the second one I've had to fix, the aluminum used is too thin and breaks easily, so I've been replacing the ends with brass. Easy enough to do. The 13x7 prop for the Saito .72 is gonna be replaced with either a 13x6, 13x4w or a 13x4 sport. Did a search for sport/3D on the Saito and found those suggestions. Gotta slow it down some. Got a little more "user friendly" with flying it today, with good feelings for future flights.
Soo, how 'bout you guys, any good Zlin news?

Mando........

Hi Guys, in S.A. we have a local dealer for the same range as NitroModels. They are manufactured by a Chinese company called Fly Model, www.fly-model.com. I'm currently waiting for my second Zlin as the first one got damaged in the mail & got returned. Thanks for the tip on the landing gear and as for the hardware I intend to replace it all with Du-Bro.
I've got a choice of 2 engines both Irvine 2 strokes .46 & .53, any recomendations?
The model is based on one aircraft from a South African aerobatic team. I have 2 pic's of the aircraft I'll try to post them for you.

i like the look of this plane and i'd like to get it if i can get it shipped to Japan. i don't bother justifying buying new planes, i just buy what i want. if i get it, i'll run it electric, but i've got over 40 planes currently rtf and about 90 to build, so it may take a little time hahaha

Hi there!

I am very very curious how you get your planes shipped to you from AK. If you can give me some details of the shipping price + service, I'll be glad to assist you the same way. But as far as I know, USPS in LA is not willing to ship any oversize items for us...We've tried, and many times it failed to go out...so let me know the details and I'll help you out!

However, we are in the process of building an shipping dept. in Asia and even in UK this year so maybe around summer we'll able to cater to Asia/UK customers...

But in the meantime, let me know how u get your planes shipped from the USA. Appreciate your time, Thanks!

This plane (have bought and my friends have sent) has come recently. Any problems with delivery has not arisen - look
http://trkcnfrm1.smi.usps.com/PTSInternetWeb/InterLabelInquiry.do - EB109680881US
Has paid for delivery 68 $.
The plane has come damaged. Damages have arisen not on fault of mail - with damages it has been bought.
Look - packing has no even insignificant deformations. But everyone a wing has such damages.
Damages I shall eliminate itself - but it is unpleasant that sell the broken things .

Just got my Zlin 50, all looks ok except the canopy has been sprayed silver inside, I bought a pilot with this kit.Question, How will he see where he is going? Seriously, I wanted to detail the interior.I emailed Nitro twice about getting a clear one ,no answer yet.If this is a updated change by them,Just thought all should know, may not be to your liking .None of the pictures I saw have this ,all are clear. This silver makes it look very cheap !
