check the dual brake set up if you have them...they might be set to tight (2 assembly screws) and causeing the drivetrain to bind.

That was my first check. I moved the servo by hand and made sure it was free. You can hear what sounds like gravel in the tranny...again the LE 3-speed is silent and spins like a champ. I may install the 3-speed guts into the X SS housing.

that's a good idea...it makes it easier to sevice with the new case...4 screws I think to remove the top of the trans case.

You might need to get a 2 speed matinence kit (www.smfstore.com has them) to "rebuild" the messed up trans (it's the 2 speed right?)
or you might have a gear tooth striped...or a bearing gave way and has debree rolling around in the trans.

Yup, you can access the top with (4) screws but you can't swap out the internals that way. Still gotta take it out and split the case for all that. I knew I should have put the 3-speed guts in there while it was in-process.

Well this is a brand new kit BTW...tranny shouldn't be making all this noise and binding up. I'll see tomorrow 'cause I'm whooped/tired.

Looks good you think?

It wont take long at all to swap out those transmission guts. The three speed was THE big deal about the LE... you have to have the three speed in there. Plus, the performance difference is great. The little .25 actually feels peppy with the three speed and tuned pipe, so get your butt in gear and make it happen!

Truck looks great BTW

Poop what a knucklehead I am. Indecision is a horrible thing...now I gotta start wrenching again when it could already be done. Silly me. hehehe

I sure don't like the way the brake system attaches to the tranny case. Seems like the screws want to strip right out.

Thanks for the compliment!!

change the course thread self taping screws to a fine thread screw of similar length...It is what I did and do not have any problems with the set up.
They seem to stay in their place, until I remove them for brake pad clean up.

Fine thread hold better than course thread?! That's odd. I'll try it.

my hex head screw kit from slapmafro came with all fine thread screws, supposedly they will not strip the plastic as quickly and has more holding strength---more threads in contact with plastic.

Well it turned out that my brakes were too tight...those (2) screws that hold it in place. Not a good setup at all. That should have a better *stop* so you can't over-tighten.

Rolls real nicely now.

Hey Guys,
I stumbled upon this thread looking up information on the my Savage 25 Limited Edition that I just picked up from a guy getting out of the hobby. It looks almost 100% new. I would bet that it only has 10 tanks of gas run through it. Its a pretty nice looking truck. Should I keep this thing instead of my MGT? I just bought an STS .30 Rev2 to put in the MGT. Do you think that this savage would be a better all around truck than the MGT? Thanks.

Great deal...how much did you pay for it if I may ask?

I think the LE version of the Savage is the most well-rounded truck ever sold. Some will disagree, but oh well. It came right out of the box with everything you need in a truck...including upgrades that you didn't need to spend extra money on. This is why I was looking for one...no additional investment needed.

The S-25 is plenty powerful enough, the 3-speed tranny is a wonder to drive with, tuned pipe, limited body colors, much nicer rims, etc.

In the end it's all about preference...but the LE will be worth money if it's kept in good shape down the road. That statement is almost blasphemy here since the trucks are intended to get BEAT on. hehe
