How much did that LE cost you altogether.
I.E. everything you spent money on to get to
this point.

Subtracting the original purchase price of the LE I couldn't use would have me spending about the same as a RTR kit. BUT...

  • original purchase of un-usable LE RTR kit - $200 ($300 minus $100 refund)
  • Savage X SS roller - $225
  • Spektrum kit - $180
  • rims/tires - $40
  • misc. (ignitor, charger, batteries, etc.) - $150 or so.

That's actually more than a RTR kit, but I have the best pieces in the truck with usable extra's from a trashed LE. It's a hybrid of parts from the Savage LE and X SS minus only the 3-speed.

Which reminds me I do still have an HPI TF-4 & RF-2 stock radio and receiver for sale. Make an offer...great back-up pieces in great shape. Just wanna trim off the extra's I won't need. Same goes for the LE 3-speed...I don't think I will bother with installing it as the 2-speed works fine for me. Comes in the original Savage housing with dual disc-brake setup intact. Turns smooth as butter in great shape. Accepeting offers please.

Thanks. My wife was using the still's camera with built-in video recorder...so the video is real shakey.

I'll get some better stuff when the weather clears up. Can you believe it's 30 degrees in south Louisiana in April?!?! It was 85+ degrees 2 days ago.

I think I'd like to upgrade the servo's...what's good out there at a decent price?

I hear the Hitec HS-645MG is good for the steering, and then put the stock steering servo for the throttle/brake. Yes/no?!

The 645MG is a very popular servo for Savage owners to upgrade to. It is a solid performer and will turn your wheels with ease where the stock SF1 servo struggles. If you have a digital radio, you might consider spending th $10 to $15 more to get the 645's digital siste, the 5645. It also hae more torque as well!

And so far ive bought for it:

Wheelie bar: £15
Centre skid plate: £17
New steering servo: £32
Savage X radio box: £12
Exhaust deflector: £2
Aluminium servo horn: £5

And about £80 on fuel lol.

I havnt actually bought that much for it, it works out at $163 excluding fuel.
I'm really annoyed about the broken carb though.

Putting the 3-speed gears from my old tranny was pretty easy. Taking the TVP on one side off wasn't so fun, but not bad.

The real change is the center gear-set really, but I swapped everything just in case. One thing that worried me was having to remove the tranny if adjustments needed to be made. Well my Savage X SS tranny case has 3 holes in it with *EASY* access to all the adjustment screws. Why have people been saying they need to remove the tranny then?? And if you only have 2 holes...why not drill another?? The center hole is for 2nd gear adjust and the larger right hole is for 3rd gear. My tranny case with 3 holes even has the rubber 3-in-1 plug.

Pretty cool!

I'll get it offroad with a body on as soon as I am comfortable with the tune.

BTW, where do you get that muffler extension?

I ended up just buying a Dubro from the LHS. I found a helicopter type with a cap on the end that was cool...just didn't feel like waiting.
