Hey Y'all, A flying buddy said he heard a rumor somewhere that somewhere out there is a kit to convert the Z445 in a GT80? Anybody else heard such a rumor? Never been real happy with the performance of the 445, in fact just headed out the door to find out how my Ohio RC Ultimate flies after swapping the 445 with a 3W-100. (by the way their is less than .10 inch difference in the lenth of the 2 motors so it was a very easy swap with just plugging and redrilling firewall and relocating the throttle linkage!) Thanks for any info you might have.

I doubt they would make a conversion kit. To get the increased displacement, you'd need either bigger pistons and cylinders or a new crank. Either way it would be $300-400. From the rpm numbers that I have seen posted, I think there is a lot of untapped potential in your motor. RCignition has found the engine turns 7,000 rpm with a 24x10 prop (open exhaust). With the stock mufflers, other people get around 6200-6400 rpm. This is a very large difference in power. The stock mufflers must be terribly restrictive and prevent the engine from producing power competitive with other engines of similar displacement. I would figure out a way to put a free flowing exhaust or tuned cans on the engine. That way, you'll get the power that RC has measured. And the cost will be a lot less than a piston/cylinder kit. The stock GT80 is not known to be a powerhouse either. I'd be willing to bet the problem is the restrictive exhaust too.

The ONLY difference between the 74 and 80 is the bore size and the word"Zenoah" cast into the intake manifold....The 80 runs almost exactly the same..You can buy the cylinders and pistons from Horizon and have an 80, but there's not enough difference to make it worth while...RC.........

Thanks for the inputs! I didn't really think that there was a "kit" and figured it would not be worth the money to buy new cylinders and pistons but thought I would ask as I had heard a rumor of it. I know a lot of people like and live by Zenoah but I think they sort of lack on the power to weight ratio of the other gas motors on the market. They are a good buy price wise for the single cylinder motors but I think the twin is a little over priced for the performance...but thats just my opinion! The 445 was in the Ulitmate when I bought it so I just left it in there for about a year to finish breaking it in thinking it would get more power but never did after 200 or so flights! BTW, I was running a Mejlik 24x10 with stock mufflers and getting about 7100 RPM static on the ground, that's with a CH ign and a new carb from RCIng (thanks Ralph!). I flew the Ultimate with the 3W-100 on it this morning and it is a whole different plane! I like the increase in power!!
