To date, I've found that the props that provide the highest rpm counts are the slowest for a vertical pull out from a dead stop hover. The MSC and Vess props do much better at this than about any other. The first foot will be a little on the slow side but after that they rocket up to full aircraft speed. Faster spinning props are lethargic for the first 10 feet or so and don't get it all back until rolling level.

Me either but I have a friend that does. Kyle got sick during the IMAC meet at Auburn last weekend but Terry Hubbard was at the field and kind enough to maiden the Edge for me. Good thing! Turned out I had the darn thing pitch sensitive and a tad tail heavy. My fault Tom, not yours. The engine hovers the thing at 1/3 throttle and as soon as I get the control throws staighten out it will fly like a dream. Here's the video. All on low rates.

Nice maiden, but she'll land a lot softer than that!! Depending on how you want to fly, a 5-1/2" c/g works great. Low rate expos at 35% and high rate at 75% take most of the pitch sensitivity out of the sticks if you haven't dialed in too much control throw. If the ailerons are centered in the stall there is NO wing rock with this plane.

Engine sounded good. That's a nice, throaty low pitch sound.

Yeah, I really liked the sound on the downlegs. I have the control arms too far out on the SWB arms. Need to move them up a couple of holes. Thought I had the CG nailed but I guess I have to move the Rx battery onto the engine box. Way great power!!! This engine and plane rocks!! Terry said he could not get it to flare though. We'll see on a calmer day. Pretty windy today. Tom's done a great job with this one!!!

Here's a bit of news on this engine.

One of my associates mounted one on an older Edge 84, the V1 model. The firs thing we discovered is it fits fine with the stock muffler, everything is inside the cowl except the top of the cylinder. This is good news, that plane had a tight cowl and it was hard to find a good fitting muffler. This also meansit wll fit in all our planes without hacking the cowl to pieces.

I also got to run that engine with a new Bisson wraparound muffler that they made for me. It performed about the same as the stock muffler, 6300 rpm on a bunny 23-8. It was also somewhat quieter. So now we have an alternative to the stock piece if anybody feels the need.

I have settled in on pricing, I think. The engine will be $429 when purchased outright or $399 if purchased with a plane. I'll be publishing revised pricing and several package deals very soon.

Also now that we have some history on the engines and with the factory I am extending the warranty period to 1 year on all new engines.

Also I think we have found and killed all the bugs. The main problem has been stripped threads due to over tightening and bolts that are not quite the right size. I am replacing the affected bolts in all new engines and revising the instructions.

I believe the price of flying a 50cc plane has dropped $300 or more.

You can see from the pics how it fits into the V2. Haven't had any overheating issues. I'll let you know if anything does go on. I love the sound on this stock muffler. Don't know if it would score a 10 at IMAC but it sure does sound sweet at the field. Really nice setup. Everyone at the field remarked on how nice the plane was and really liked the way the engine was tucked away.

Got to fly my 3mm 53cc engine from Wild Hare today on a Wild Hare Mid-Wing Kap customized... Very good power! I am very happy with the engine and if it continues to perform as it did and has longevity, then it is a very serious option for a 50cc bird!!!!
I was spinning a WH 23x8 Prop (a bit big a 22" would be better) @ 6350rpms, a bit slow on spool up being such a large load but pulled very strong! I am very happy with it!!

The 22X8 will spin to 7000+ and the Vess 22A 6700. Of the few people I've heard of running a 23 on this engine I don't believe any of them liked it. I think a 22X10 would probably be the max for this one. I finally got some longer bolts so I can go back to my Vess 22A and my nice new spinner.

I'm running a 23-10 Mezjlik, it turns over 6400 RPM. I like it just fine, but if you prefer a looser setup with more RPM and faster spool up stay with the 22" props.

That's the best numbers I've heard yet. I really like the Vess and at 6700rpm and 25 pounds of thrust on a new engine I think after break-in it will really come on. The way I understand it the Vess A prop spins faster then the B and the guys I know flying them on DAs are getting 6800 with well broken in engines. The nice thing about the 10 pitch series is that it slows the plane down quickly but I'm pretty sure the Vess will spool up quicker and is very quiet. Ohhh!! Did I say that? I'm gonna miss that TBM sound on the downlegs!!

Tom, Just watched your smiling face on the RCU Video of the Toledo Air Show, you handsome devil you!! I really liked that 50cc Sukhoi in the Honda red. If I had to decide right now I'd say that that will probably be my next plane. Really impressed with the pocket hinges. No more tape!!! Wish you did them on the 50 size. When are you going to list them and the 3MM engines on your site?

Tom,

How about a package price that includes the engine, a couple of bunnyprops and a new cowl for my V2 Edge? Can't have that big G-62 hole in there for that nice little engine.
