hey guys i just got and broke in my 18cvrx and i love it. but i keep killing spur gears, im not sure if its from power or if its from sand perhaps but i have gone through 2 sets, the 1st was because my motor moved and ate the gears but the other broke today after i was driving for about 10 mins and i turned a corner and floored it and it acted like it locked up then it was moving weird. so i checked the 2speed gears and sure enough they were missing some teeth, so is there any way to prevent this, im assuming its debris and not power killing the gears so can i seal the hole on the bottom of the chassis and maybe try to seal the surround of the box as well? also anyone know where to get metal spur gears???

Firstly, use flyscreen mesh on the bottom of your chassis. That hole isnt just there to bring debris in, it also brings it out

Its most likely your gear meshing isnt aligned properly. Make sure you threadlock your engine mounts into the chassis plates so it doesnt move.

Also try running bigger pinion gears, a big jolt of acceleration could strip spurs. At least this way your accelleration is reduced and more top speed

i dont think they even make metal spurs for hpi on roads, they only make them for offroads

hmm try get taller gearing then, heavy acceleration might be breaking it. What teeth is ur first gear pinion/spur?

43 tooth but since i get nothing but wheelspin in 1st i have the gearshift screw backed way out so it pretty much is always in second, you never hear it shift but it does shift and it does so very early, (ive confirmed this put accelerating the car while i hold it in the air and i can feel it change very early

If you are tearing up spur gears, something is wrong. Plain and simple. If you go to a metal spur gear, something else down the drive train will take the abuse and break. Beefing up a plastic part with a metal part, just makes another plastic part more vulnerable.
