Is this the N30C tail motor? Will this one replace the Axe CP tail motor? This is definitely cheaper.

Guys,

I am going to convert the electronics on my Axe to have a HH gyro, and my own receiver to be used with my own radio. I have read through this post and have picked up enough to get a good start. My First question is; what is wrong with using e-flite G90 gyro? Instead of the futaba.

to rephrase the question;

What are the differences between the futaba 240 and the e-flite g90 gyros in the axe?

Has anyone found an alternative replacement tail motor for the axe cp? I think Helimax is ripping us off by charging $24.95 for the N60 motor.

I am a little disappointed with the axe cp stability and part prices - time to move to a better heli: the Honey Bee King II; replacement parts are a lot cheaper.

Well, I found a GWS motor at my LHS that looks like an exact match for the Helimax tail motor. I transferred the 8T pinion from the old motor over, installed it in my axe cp and flew 2 battery packs with no problem!
I checked and it looks like tower hobbies also carries this GWS motor for less than $10 (I think it is a replacement for the dragonfly). It certainly beats paying $25 for the Helimax motor.

Well I have made the conversion to all new electronics and I am having problems.

Here are my specs

transmitter: JR 7202 synth
receiver: JR RS6UL 6 channel micro ppm
servos: stock
Gyro: Align RCE-500X (was going to use the e-flite G-90 but decided on what was available, they are nearly the same gyro)
Main motor stock
main ESC GWS ICS300Li (temporary until my electrifly C-25 comes in)
tail motor stock
tail ESC electrifly C-12 (middle receiver wire disconnected)
battery electrifly power series 3S, 20C, 11.1V, 640mA (this is just to start off with, I know guys are using higher mA)

channel assignment:
1-main ESC
2-Aile
3-elev
4-tail ESC
5-gain
6-collective

radio setup
3 servo 120deg ccpm swash
gear channel (5): set to gear
Aux2: INH

My problem is that when I move the throttle/collective stick up just the collective works. Then after a few seconds all the servos start to glich severly.

I have tried 2 identical receivers
I have tried to substitute the original speed control as per HeliMax instruction.
I have the three ccpm servos working fine until I move the throttle.
This happens with or without the gyro pluged in.

I haven't tried a totally different type of receiver. That micro 6CH might not be capable for some reason.

other than that I am at a dead end

Check your setup

JR Radio are not compatible withe the stock reciever.

Also check that you are arming the ESC's for the motor(s). If you are not arming the ESC's then the motors will not work.

Hope this help's

Tom

Perhaps a larger battery. It could be getting low on voltage. Is the motor stalled? It will draw excessive amps to get it going and this could cause your low voltage/jumping servos. Don't know what else to try.

OK the problem was a bad battery. It is a Lipo with only 2 flights. I barely touched the wires together while soldering the new leads on. That is the only thing that has happened to the battery. That shouldn;t ruin it. My Elecrifly balancer diagnostics wont even display an error code. Just solid green error light.

anyway

The heli is working fine now. I set the pitch curve by eye as I don't have a gauge that small. I was tuning on the gyro when I broke a tail blade.

I will make a post after I finish tuning and let you knos how she flies.

I took two wacks to the arm from the main blades while pluging in the battery. Man did that hurt!

On the contrary. Even touching the leads together for a nanosecond will destroy a Li-Po pack.

I try to keep at least one lead covered all the time. Once its soldered, cover it with heat shrink before starting the other wire.

Try Tower hobbies for tail motor replacement options. Look at GWS CN 12 RXC Motor.
If you see a "D" series motor and gearbox combo you'll find an easily adapted option with a gear ratio pretty close. Look at the Pico Slow Stick Motor gearbox combo. GWS DX2 BBAX. The whole gearbox combo will adapt and the motor is supported at both ends. A little dremel tool work and getting the wires to exit the boom soon so you can secure the assembly to a plug inserted into the end of the boom and presto.....or something to that effect.

You'll need a gear puller if you order the motor only I think, but EFlite makes a nice 1-5 mm shaft gear puller.
