To be completly honest with you.......I have never used anything other than cheap or low mAh cells. I have used these http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXJA83&P=ML and a pack of 1500mAh pannosonic cells.

I have the following 7.2v tenergy battery packs:

4 3500's
4 3800's
2 4200's

The 3500's are simply amazing. Incredible punch, hold charge well, and do not overheat. The 4200's are similar, but with better runtimes obviously. I was very unimpressed with the 3800's until I reconstructed them into sXs packs. There was a HUGE improvement once that was done.

All in all, the tenergy's are great for the money. The 3500's beat the crap out of my gp3300 packs for considerably less cash. I would recommend any of the tenergy batts to anyone, as long as they are willing to replace the battery bars as needed. The cells are excellent, the pack construction sucks.

Hello, I just bought two of these packs from onlybatterypacks.com. Mine are the 6v 2600mah NiMH 5 cell AA flat Packs and I just formed one on my Sirius Pro Former and it got a little warm. After the charge I put a meter on it and read about 6.85 volts. What is the voltage I should be getting on a pack like this? I have never seen a pack get warm like this, little worried. I am going to cycle the pack next and see what I get.

I recently purchased some of the 3800 packs. They are terrible would not charge up to capacity at all. Put them in a electrastar all the motor would do
is pulsate at half throttle.............

It is interesting to look at Tenergy cells...

I believe that the battery manufacturers keep tight control of the batches of batteries that they produce. I believe it is the re-labelers that lump several batches together under one label.

My experience with Tenergy cells is that they seem to perform very well. However, they are usually labeled 20 - 50% higher than their actual capacity, and they are inconsistent from cell to cell.

If you happen to get a pack made from cells of roughly the same actual discharge capacity (ignoring labeled capacity), your pack will work very well. However, if you get a pack that has varying capacity cells (once again ignoring the labeled capacity) your pack will always be out of balance and you will get poor performance from it.

When you order a batch of cells, you end up with varying weights and capacities, all with the same label. At least with individual cells you can test them and match them up on your own. However, if you purchase a pack, you are at their mercy. This is why some people have good luck with their Tenergy packs, and others don't.

Looking over at the All-Battery website, we find several sub C cells available. What I find interesting is that the 3500 mAh High Drain, 4500 mAh High Drain, and the 4500 mAh Propel all reference the same data sheet. Are these 3 cells all the same with just a different wrapper and label?

Looking at the cell weights, they list the Intellect 4200 mAh sub C cell as 0.15 pounds per cell (68 grams). I think this is actually a good value. However, look at the weights for the other cells. The 3500 mAh High Drain comes in at 0.13 pounds (59 grams), as does the 4500 mAh High Drain cell. The 4500 mAh Propel comes in at 57 grams. The 3800 mAh cells are supposed to be 58 grams. The referenced data sheet calls for a weight of 67 grams.

For another comparison, the Elite 4500 mAh comes in at 69.42 grams.

If you take the time and loosely match up a set of cells and make those into a pack, you should have a reasonably good pack. However, if you simply buy a pack, you are taking a crap shoot.

It is a good thing that their cells and packs are inexpensive. You will end up eating into your "savings" looking for cells of similar capacities, or you may go through a couple of packs to find one that performs well.

I hope that Tenergy gets their act together. I can live with inflated capacities as long as the cells are uniform cell to cell. I suspect that this uniformity would drive the price of the cells up, so I am not holding my breath.

I bought some loose Tenergy 3300's and they do alright. Not as much punch as GP's. They top out around 3200mah on my ICE but that is not a big deal considering I payed 20 bucks a pack with shipping and everyhting.

Just an FYI - I put together a 4 cell 2600ma AA pack the other day (welded tab not solder so no damage possible) and thought I'd check out it's actual capacity after reading the various, an mostly bad reports on these batteries. I have charged it up 4 times now using a C/10 rate on an ACE HD500 variable rate charger and 300ma discharge down to .9v on my Triton - Every time it came up with 1695-1717ma in capacity. This is about 66% of the rated capacity. They at least appear to be consistent ... just not what they are rated at. As far as durability - right now I am not sure I am willing to put these batteries in a plane as an RX main pack ... maybe a backup pack. If they are overrated on capacity the might also be on durability, not willing to take the risk until I have a lot more experience with them.

Tenergy sent me four 4200 mAh replacement batteries for my 3800s that I had bought in February, which had never charged near 3800 mAh, and had started acting funny. They didn't even want the old 3800s back. One of the new 4200 exploded the first time we used it. Two of the others didn't even charge above 7 volts (6.9 and 5.9!). One of the original 3800 melted this weekend during use. I sent them back this time and asked that they send me replacements and check the voltage before they are shipped.
