skrez -> saito 100 tach readings (3/19/2007 11:05:51 AM)

Hi Guys,
I`m breaking -in my new Saito 100 and wondering what kind of tach reading sould I expect from a 14x8 APC prop?
Thanks,
Frank

One thing I forgot to mention, I have the engine mounted inverted and when I fuel up the carb gets flooded with fuel ( is this normal)?
Thanks,
Frank

If the carb is below the tank, yes.

9200 rpm on 15% nitro.

Here are some more. 15% WildCat.

Thank guys for your quick reply. I`m new to Saito and 4 strokes. If using wildcat or Omenga 15%, do I need to add castor oil to the fuel or do these brands contain enough?
thanks,
Frank

Hobbsy -> RE: saito 100 tach readings (3/19/2007 3:48:04 PM)

The WildCat Premium Extra has 18% lube with 80/20 syn/castor blend, I have been using it for 16 years, no lost bearings or other issues.

This can also cause tuning issues

Hi Guys,
I`m only getting about 8500 with stock muffler and 15%, but I`v only run about a 2 tanks thru. When I lean the low speed needle how will that effect wide -open proformance?
Thanks,
Frank

oceansfiftyseven -> RE: saito 100 tach readings (3/27/2007 1:21:32 AM)

Your engine needs more time on it. Follow the instructions and you will have a good and powerful engine.

scratchonly -> RE: saito 100 tach readings (3/27/2007 6:28:07 PM)

Won't affect hi end UNLESS you lean low end so much that you can't richen the hi end, due to the spraybar being closed off. Always check that you can richen the hi speed after leaning the low end. I ran a new 91 the other day and was able to get a 2500 idle after 20 ounces at rich 5000 RPM. I wouldn't try for any better until you run it some more. Was able to adjust hi to about 8900 with 14/6 apc.

root -> RE: saito 100 tach readings (6/26/2008 11:36:10 PM)

My Saito 100 with 5 gallons of 20/20 presently using a Evolution 14x8 gives me 9200 at sea level.

Use to only get 8850 before I got the valves adjusted.

MetallicaJunkie -> RE: saito 100 tach readings (6/27/2008 7:11:18 AM)

when you mean valves adjusted... do you mean u adjusted the valve lapping with a feeler gauge, or some other valve adjustment? i ask because i have a 150 thats doesnt run like it used to

root -> RE: saito 100 tach readings (6/28/2008 2:06:57 AM)

Yes the valves were adjusted by a friend/club member who owns U-Fly Hobbies at the Allaire Airport (a well deserved "plug"). He (Jim) used the little black feeler gauge that originally came with the engine. Some guys use a crisp dollar bill. It looked a little tricky to do and I couldn't explain how to do it even though there's instructions but I can tell you it made a big difference in the performance - like I said before from 8800 to 92 or 9300 and I'm still seeing a stream of smoke at full throttle so I know I'm not too lean......even today when it was 90 degrees and humid. I've never had it done cause I thought "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". That was until last week when I saw this thread and others with all these posts saying they are getting rpm readings in the low to mid 9000's. I also learned from him that an engine actually unloads about another 1000 rpm in the air. For some reason, I always thought it was only from 200 to 400 more. I think it will help the "fuel guzzling" that's associated with your Saito 125 as well as the rpm lift.
Good luck.

MetallicaJunkie -> RE: saito 100 tach readings (6/28/2008 2:25:14 AM)

thats great to now, i have mine lapped at about .03 .04mm it seemed to improve my ole..... i probably need a new piston rin... it really lost its power... i didnt have a tach at the time it ran great to have anything thing to compare to now...but it need some work done

MOTORMAN37 -> RE: saito 100 tach readings (6/28/2008 2:46:53 AM)

The correct term would be valve lash or clearance adjustment.[;)] Lapping is the matching of the valve face to the valve seat.[:D]

Hobbsy -> RE: saito 100 tach readings (6/28/2008 2:52:46 AM)

One Dave to another, I almost bit my tongue off trying to not say that.[8D]

w8ye -> RE: saito 100 tach readings (6/28/2008 3:04:05 AM)

I use the gauges from this kit.

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXCN31&P=ML

The thick one is .1mm and is used as a "No Go" gauge

The thin one is .04mm and is used as the "Go" gauge

The wrenches do not fit the Saito. Only the OS engines. I use the Saito wrenches on the Saito engines.

airborne14830 -> RE: saito 100 tach readings (7/1/2008 6:42:57 PM)

I have a satio 100 and everytime I tried to start the engine it fires, like a back fire, and spins the prop. I check the valve adjustment and tried again, no help. It just does the same thing over and over again.

Also, we broke the engine in according to the manuel and now this problem occur. I have a 14X8 prop, using MV 15% Cool power fuel, with a hangar 9 fs glow plug.

Any Suggestions. I would love to fly my new P-51 this summer

alfredbmor -> RE: saito 100 tach readings (9/9/2008 1:14:58 AM)

Check the needle valves, run the engine for the first time by opening the high speed needle valve by three to five full turns, idle needle valve should be set flush with the cap of the throttle arm, use your glow igniter, start the engine and take care to no go over 4,000 rpm. Burn 10 oz. of fuel at this setting, then start to lean the high speed needle valve, find a spot where you can see that it is gaining revs., and you can be able to take out the glow igniter while the engine keeps running, go close to 6,000 to 7,000 rpm at full throttle, let it run 10 more oz, then lean it again trying to gain 1,000 more revs. Do not touch the idle needle valve until the engine is fully broken in.
I hope this can be of help.
