TT, have you drilled the holes in your gear to bolt it to the fuse or for the axles? I'm just wondering if you can tell if the dye has soaked into the gear or if it's just sitting on the surface. I never tried the method of letting the parts sit in the dye over night, my best success came when I kept the pan of dye on a heat source and kept the dye at a simmer while the parts were in the solution, then rinse them in cold water. The only caution with this method is you MUST keep the parts moving in the pan or you run the risk of melting the parts on the bottom of the pan. It's never taken longer than 10 minutes for any of my parts to take color.
If you find that your color hasn't soaked into your gear, you might try this method to get the color absorbed into the gear.
I'm planning to dye my gear over the weekend.

At this point, I'm convinced what I did is not fuel proof. i'll find out for sure tomorrow. The liquid was boiling when the gear went in. I didn't leave it to boil.

The color is pretty much superficial. I'm not sure how much is can penetrate anyway.

The simmering way came out fuel proof?

I dyed my gear today and there is a little color rub off with alcohol or fuel but there's still color on the gear no matter how hard I rub it. At this point I'm agreeing with you that it's not totally fuel proof but I'm not going to be rubbing nearly as hard while cleaning after a flight as I did today so I guess it's kind of a toss up wheather you want the color and don't mind a little color getting on your cleaning rag.

I'm also thinking about letting the gear soak in some bleach to see if all the color comes back off or if maybe the rub off will stop.

I flew mine, and I expected a pool of color under the plane and that did not happen. I even dripped fuel right on it.

No, it is not truly fuel proof.

But, after dying, scrub and wash. It will be fine. Just don't let it sit in a pool of fuel.

I'll likely use the technique again.

Now, did anyone build or buy a Boxxer while we were discussing all this?

Couldnt you guys use that Krylon clear coat from the can? I have used it and it seems to work. I have some of those landing gear on my edge and the previous owner used some type of paint and it hasnt came off yet..ill try and figure out what he used. I think he used nail polish..if I had some 30% I would try it out...ah I mean if I had some nail polish I would try it..
