Hey TT you forgot the "nana-nana-boo-boo" part in your post[:D] That is one AWESOME ARF![8D]

Spell Check didn't like the way I spelled it... [>:]

I can't wait to get back from Toledo, so that I can wring it out real good.[:D]

Word.

Ryker -> RE: Matchlessaero/OMP Boxxer Gallery (3/19/2007 11:25:12 PM)

TT......I like that :0)......I do not know how you managed it....but you made that Boxxer look less like a profile and more like a full fuselage plane!

Ryker -> RE: Matchlessaero/OMP Boxxer Gallery (3/20/2007 12:51:43 AM)

Well here it is....The Infidel Chronicals. There is something I did during the build that made this plane uniquely mine. The fuselage, horizontal-vertical stablizers and all control surfaces....I laid them all down on sheets that I made from 1/16th balsa. I them glued them to the sheets. I then cut the balsa to expose the open spaces on their frame work. After that, I then did the other side. I finished up by again cutting out the open spaces. In effect...I laminated both sides of all flat sufaces. Which means that all of my glue joints have been reinforced on both sides! This has added CONSIDERABLE strenght to the whole aircraft. I know....I landed in a very strong wind which caught one of my wing tips. My plane ended up donig a full cartwheel. NO DAMAGE!!(other than to my pride) This procedure added about 7oz to the flying weight...but I consider it an EXCELLENT trade off. Any hoo.....couldn't have had a successful model however without an excellent design and kit. Thanks Jeremy....thanks Mike!

Also folks,
For anyone considering what to do with that cream colored tetherite landing gear....Rit dye works perfectly! It also works quite well on APC props. Just make sure you bring the water and dye to a BOIL! Then cover the container you are dying in, and let it sit over night.

AFSalmon -> RE: Matchlessaero/OMP Boxxer Gallery (3/20/2007 1:02:23 PM)

Thanks for the tip Ryker! I'll have to try that in the future. Also great pics of the Boxxer! Keep them coming guys.[:D]

Ryker -> RE: Matchlessaero/OMP Boxxer Gallery (3/23/2007 12:03:28 AM)

Come on folks.......I KNOW there have been more than two Boxxers built!!!! Where are the photos people.

Bolio -> RE: Matchlessaero/OMP Boxxer Gallery (3/23/2007 12:29:08 AM)

The tip about coloring the tetherites is great, I will try on mine soon!!

Here are some pics of my Boxxer:
Thanks.

matchlessaero -> RE: Matchlessaero/OMP Boxxer Gallery (3/23/2007 3:12:41 AM)

Can I post a pic in here too? [;)]

Here are a few I've built.....

Yellow one is the original. Red/White/Blue is the 2nd. Blue White and Silver was built for a friend. Red/White one is the prototype of the Version2 Boxxer (currently sold kit)

Ryker -> RE: Matchlessaero/OMP Boxxer Gallery (3/23/2007 11:20:03 PM)

See....Now that's what I'm talkin' about!!! Jose.....FANTASTIC covering job!! Are those vinly grapics...or did you cut them out of covering material?? That is really an original covering job!!

And what can I say about the master of transparent covering. Damn Jeremy....I would love to spend at least an afternoon with you and watch you cover!!

Damn fine plane guys!!

TailTwister -> RE: Matchlessaero/OMP Boxxer Gallery (3/24/2007 4:53:42 AM)

Bolio's Boxxer might be the nicest one I've seen.

Bolio -> RE: Matchlessaero/OMP Boxxer Gallery (3/24/2007 5:23:17 AM)

Wow!!!! What can I say......Thanks????
Thats a really great compliment but to be completely honest the idea is mine but all the vinyl work was made by my brother. He has a vinyl cutting machine and helps me all the time with my planes so a really big part of the merit belong to him.
Since the plane is fatless and I always drink Coca light then seems appropiate to do a theme schem.

Saludos.

In the US, we call it Diet Coke. Coke is in the same kind of letters you have, and Diet is on top of Coke, in the same letters as light.

We also now have Coke Zero, which is almost the same...

I'm doing a set now, and so far it looks like this is a winning plan. I'm doing black, and the dye is taking well.

Ryker, you just air dry then, or what?

OK, is this remotely fuel proof?

I put the gear one, and while washing off some Saito piss (with rubbibng alcohol), I bumped the gear. The paper towel turned jet black where it bumped the gear. No scrub or anything, just a bump. The first time I fuel up, am I gonna have black stuff all over the start up bench?
[:o][:o]

rtn9105 -> RE: Matchlessaero/OMP Boxxer Gallery (5/3/2007 7:41:21 AM)

TT, what kind of dye did you use on your gear? Did you heat your dye solution while the gear was in the dye or did you use it cold? Did you rinse the dye solution off with cold water after you took the gear out of the dye solution?
I haven't done a set of gear yet but I've had real good luck with Rit brand clothing dye on RC car parts in the past.

TailTwister -> RE: Matchlessaero/OMP Boxxer Gallery (5/3/2007 1:02:53 PM)

Sanded.

Boiling hot water and Rit dye.

Sat for hours and hours.

Rinsed, and subsiquently scrubbed.

Dry heated in oven for 2 hours.

Still alcohol takes black off every time.

flygilmore -> RE: Matchlessaero/OMP Boxxer Gallery (5/4/2007 1:51:00 PM)

I've always used the fuelproof topflite monokote flat black in the can-has always worked great for me.

TailTwister -> RE: Matchlessaero/OMP Boxxer Gallery (5/4/2007 1:58:15 PM)

I've tried like 10 different cans of paint, from Wal*Mart brands, to model airplane paints, to speciffically made chemical resistant industrial paints. 30% Nitro kicks their butts every time. Automotive lacqures work best, but cost a bunch for start up.

I figured since this was a dye, and actually got down into the plastic, it might work. I'm doubtful now. I'll know this weekend, how bad fuel treats it.

BTW, the landing gear on the Boxxer ARF is anodized black, and will not run no matter the nitro.

Also, for sticking paint to aluminum (less than 30% noitro fuel), a vinegar bath is a way to chemically prep the surface, to hold paint much better. Aluminum Oxode forms almost instantly in air, and the vinegar chemically etches the surface, to give paint a better chance to hold. Wash with soap and water, soak in vinegar for like a minute, then towel dry. Paint it immediately. That's your best chance there.

For synthetics, like Teatherite from OMP, get a good sanding done (220 grit does good), then wash with soap and water and dry, and go to town with the spray paint.

Maybe after the Rit dye, a good coat of clear lacquer???
