I've been flying mine with a Moki 1.80, 18x10 prop on FAI fuel and perfomance is very good. The replacement gear from WM were JUNK and spring loaded UP!!. I replaced them with Spring Aires and Lykes line 1/2" oleo struts. Some wing mod was required and noe I just have to install the pneumatics.

I and my friend (who owns the Miss America) are now modifying the wing to accept the larger retract. It is true that the wire legs are slightly longer, which means cutting out the section of rib and letting the body of the retract replace what was wood. Just keep the leg straight by removing material on each side equally and the wheel will fall right into place when you get it so the retract will fit. You will have to remove some of the sheeting and covering to accept the wider body of the retract, but that's not a problem. When you get it to slide down into the channel, just use a pen and outline the edges and then use that to cut the right amount away.

Good luck. I think this will definitely solve the problem. Note that the wire gear is heavier and a double spring instead of a single twist.

Fred

I have to total agree with Todd on this one. I been flying the new version with a G-38 and it fly's great. I did however remove the junk retract system that came with the bird and install a set of spring air retracts with custom struts, works great. I also cut an access panel just below the Horz. Stab and installed my 6V bat. put a little extra lead in the tail and with all ARF's I went through and reinforced all area's of concern (No skimping on glue here). I got to say this bird is a great flyer and landings are easy with flaps. For anyone to say this bird can't be powered with gas, we'll I am proof it can. Also I went dead stick and was able to bring her home. Bottom Line its a War Bird!!!!!

Great Flying!!!!!!
