Airdale -> Break in/HPI Baja (3/21/2007 1:02:20 AM)

Does anyone have any recommendations as far breaking in the engine on my new HPI Baja?

Thank you...

george_georgoulas -> RE: Break in/HPI Baja (3/21/2007 7:38:52 AM)

I let mine idle for 2 tanks, big mistake. I blew the o rings.

Just take it easy for the first few tanks.

I just ran mine. It's doing good so far. I also put a TGN race pipe on it from DDM.

the proper break in is to drive it WFO!!

I would get a good 2 cycle engine oil that is NOT all synthetic. The reason for this is because all synthetic oil is to slick and it takes the rings longer to seat. Use an oil that is petroleum based (blend of synthetic and petroleum is ok). The best oil I have found is Lawnboy ashless, it is a good oil and will let the rings seat within 2 gallons.

As far as throttle control and how hard you should/shouldn't run the engine. I know that when I use a new chainsaw or weedeater for the first time, I NEVER run the engine at half throttle. I always break my gas engines in by never setting the high speed needle lean and I always vary the engine throttle. Never do I idle around nor do I run wide open for more than 20 seconds at a time. Once I have about 1-2 gallons thru the engine, I switch to Amsoil 100% synthetic and run it like I want to.

just my .02 cents worth, as I have been running 2 cycle gas engines for many years and never have I had one give me problems. And btw, my weedeater is 15 years old and never misses a beat. It gets fed leftover rc gas.[:D]

SAVAGEJIM -> RE: Break in/HPI Baja (5/15/2007 3:41:31 AM)

Yeah, just drive it.

fire_racer17 -> RE: Break in/HPI Baja (5/27/2007 8:54:37 PM)

I drove mine normally, exept I didn't hold it on full throttle for very long during the fist tank of fuel and it lasts pretty long on a tank of fuel compared to nitro vehicle.[8D]

no break in needed, just grip it and rip it. of course take it easy for a few tanks but not like a nitro were you heat cycle and apply throttle for 2 seconds and then brake for 2 seconds. None of that crap. just crank and drive like you normally would but hold off on full wide open extended throttle untill tank 3 or so. Its just like your weed eater motor you dont need to break those in, nor do you need to break this one in.

slight break in is what im sayin, just crank and drive and hold off on going full throttle till after a couple of tanks. clean your filter/s oil and grease and check the bolts and thats all you need to do. once you tune it its tuned you dont even need to bring the tuning screw driver with you after its tuned. Unlike the nitros where all you do is tune so you can run it for a few mins then retune the next time you start it up.

microDan -> RE: Break in/HPI Baja (6/4/2007 7:42:00 AM)

As others have said, just use the oil and fuel you intend to use and just go for it.
I'm not a believer in not using a syn oil from the start. Use what you intend to use all the time. An "oil change" could cause more problems than it's worth. Break it in from the start with what you will use in the future. Break in is not so much a big deal in the gas engines.
Do not confuse these with your old NITRO thoughts. OK now to add more to this I only use Camp Fuel, my Baja has never tasted gasoline......... from day one camp fuel and Amsoil Pro Saber Syn at 42:1........... = 3oz oil per gallon....
BTW, the only break in thought should be the needle settings. Keep it on the rich side on the low and high for at least a tank and then lean it in for max power checking the spark plug color after a high speed run......

milorc2 -> RE: Break in/HPI Baja (6/5/2007 4:15:53 AM)

hi i like a lot my savage x but i buy a revo 3.3 and i will like to know if its posible that a 4.6 engine enter in a revo 3.3 [:-]

grinja -> RE: Break in/HPI Baja (6/5/2007 12:20:50 PM)

when i ran mine in i made sure it was rich mixture then as it started to loosen up slowly started to lean it out on the top end screw .maybe use a little extra oil make it mineral based so the rings will seat ,then when its getting to peak revs change to synthetic oil ,keep the car moving so there is good airflow around the engine or it will overheat ,be patient ,it will take about 3 hours of running remember DIRT inside the air cleaner will KILL your engine along with too much HEAT my baha is going very well have FUN
