It has arrived ....... Bloody big box and full of goodies. At first glance everything is well packed in foam and sealed plastic bags, presented in a very solid cardboard container. Accompanying same is a set of building instructions written in a combination of English and a few chinese " word salad " phrases, complete with simple illustrations which only just mimick the actual aircraft components in a lot of cases. The first item unwrapped was the rear engine cowl ..... Absolut magic, a thing of beauty, an excellent finish.

This forum I hope will provide me and others with a review of the kit and how a moderately experienced model aviator ( me ) goes about putting it all together. I will include some pics later as I go. If anyone has any comments or questions, please ask, I will be happy to receive any advice and hopefully return some.

Nick

All the bits have been looked at, time to start assembling this bird ....... The manual starts with assembling the flaps, but I have chosen to start assembling the rudders, silly me. According to the instructions you take a small supplied wooden block and shape it to a half moon, this is then epoxied into the vertical stab and the rudder and hinges attached to the blocks. The rudders are actually recessed to cover the hinges.
This has turned into quite a task, ( should have started with the flaps ). The hinge cutouts on the rudders are quite large and are very visible when the rudders are trial fitted into the vertical stab. I didn't like this and decided to fill the cutouts and cut out a much more reasonable and quite well hidden slot. So far so good.

When trial fitting the rudders, things did not look right ..... some measurements showed that the recesses for the rudders were not equal, some cutting was required to make all measurements the same for both booms. It is also well worth noting that the original holes drilled in the vertical stab to insert the hinges had been filled with a balsa plug, and the hole drilling left to the purchaser. A good thing too, the original holes were neither centered or in the correct position for the pin hinges. I thought that this would have been done with a jig at the factory.

Also check out the bit missing at the top of the rudder recess, I intend to repair this as well.

The finish of the tail booms is excellent, other than the aforementioned. I have included some photos of the items I have mentioned, forgive the photography, and sending pics is a first time event.

Prop availability was a big problem, there are not many sizes to choose from, when I last wrote on this build I had intended using a 14 x 6 pusher APC and 14 x 6 tractor. Andrew Kondor was able to help with the spinners, one reverse cut of course. I have also bought Fema on board starters for my 2 saito 100's. Hope this helps.
