Thanks guys, I'm pretty happy with it. To answer your questions, it has one coat of clear and DuPont paint was used (I believe). We left the bottom white because we are going to use vinyl on the underside of the wings. EXTRA on one and 260 on the other in a holographic silver. On the fuselage side, behind the wing we are also going to put EXTRA 260 in the same holographic silver vinyl. I can't wait until it's finally done.

Tested the C/G last night and came out just a bit tail heavy. about an inch aft of the recommended 95mm.

zdz80, jmb can, 3 2600li-ion batts on the firewall, choke and throttle servos infront of the wing tube, one 8711 under the fuel tank....etc....

will try to move my batteries out a bit more, and maybe install my smoke pump.

all up weight will come in around 24lbs without pilot.

I finished my canopy last night, I tinted it using RC Car window tint spray paint, it came out ok, I probably won't use it again, but it came out ok.

I took out one of my 8711's off the rudder to help with the balance, I think the single 8711 should be enough to get the job done, and I can take out one matchbox helping the all up weight. I'm going to check it tonight and see what kind of difference it made. I'm aiming for the aft most recommended balance point, which I think they say is 95mm to start with.

I'm going to pick up the RX from the hobby shop tonight, how are you guys routing the RX antenna? Inside or out, on the top or side of the fuse? I'm going to use the 10ch JR PCM RX.

After talking to a couple comp-arf guys at the field I'm going to mount the matchboxes for the wings in the wings. I was going to leave them in the fuse close to the RX but they were saying they set all theirs up with them in the Wings and it works fine with just the two servos.

Re-weighed mine without the pilot and this time got 25lbs 9oz. with zdz80, 3 2600li-ions, jmb can, etc...

moved the batteries up in front of the firewall on a tray I made. C/G came out at 115m from leading edge. Don't know what else I can do to get any further up front on the c/g. Bigger batts, lead, smoke, are all options I guess.

I may be looking at this weekend, I'm mounting the RX, Batts and Regs tonight, I just need to figure out a couple more servo extensions and pick them up tomorrow then make and install the engine baffle.

Then start locking everything down and setting throws, and i should be good to go.

Next weekend at the latest I hope as long as I can get some good weather!

Glad to hear your's made it ok! I picked mine up from the local FedEx, loaded it into the truck and didn't notice until I got the whole box unpacked that there was a pretty good size hole in the bottom of the box. Luckily mine was ok also.

Keep us updated on your progress!

Hey Guys,
These wing tubes weigh 15.5oz. A carbon fiber tube would be around 6oz. That would be a savings of over 1/2 lb. Anybody know the exact diameter of the tube and where we could get a carbon fiber one?

Thanks

I found it duh!!!!

They are 40mm X 980mm. I guess a 1.5" carbon fiber tube would be suitable

You can find them here...

http://www.troybuiltmodels.com/WingTubes.htm

They have a 40mm x 1050 you could cut down to the right length and it's only $60.00

A full half pound would probably be worth it and it wouldn't upset the balance to change it out, you would just drop the half pound almost instantly.

I had to move the ignition to the other side of the motor dome away from my rx batteries, just to be safe. Finished up the switches, and programmed the radio today. I test ran the motor briefly today. C/G is still about 110-115mm from the leading edge. but........

NEXT NICE DAY!.....I'M GOING TO MAIDEN.

After a close inspection of both our planes they have arrived in great shape although K2BVD's has the wing hatches missing. Darcy is taking care of that and it will be a while before they are needed anyway.

Am really excited to hear a flight report Turbo.

Turbo, I think your going to beat me to it, I'm probably looking at Thursday to next Saturday.

I spent 11 hours on it today trying to get it finished up.

A couple questions, how did you setup your choke? I'm trying to use a manual choke but can't seem to figure a way to get it to work so I can leave it on (the pushrod0 and still take the cowl off. Seems like the choke is always a pain to figure out. With the engine baffle in place it makes it pretty tough to see to thread a rod back onto the carb after installing the cowl.

Are you using RF filters on your servo leads?

I'm balancing at about 100mm right now running the single rudder servo. I figure if I want to go further I'll just drop in the second rudder servo. All my RX batts and regs are about 2" behind the landing gear mounts.

Can you post a pic of your tailwheel setup? I need to figure that out still also.

Thx!

On the landing gear, did you need to cut the slot where the gear goes in or did they slide in?
Mine are to big and it looks like im going to have to make it a little bigger.

Mine just barely fit on one side, I had to push it against the fuse on one side, I should probably take that one out and trim the hole so it's not against the fuse and going to cause a crack later.

I have noticed that there seems to be quite a lot of deviation on the landing gear where some are thicker and some are thinner than others. I've noticed this by people's comments on comp-arf on message boards.
