I'm planning to attend a R/C Skydiving on mainland Europe and spotted that they impose a rule on safety devices to prevent inadvertant opening of the pack during the climb.
What I need is a couple of ideas on how to accomplish either method.

The rules below were cribbed from the Dutch website


"1. You make a safety switch, for instance 2 micro switches who turn the jumper off when it is mounted under the aircraft through use of a safety pin. When the doll is dropped, the switches will be turned and the jumper will be turned on.


2. A safety line attached to the back pack of the jumper. This is an
extra safety so the chute can not be opened when the jumper is mounted under the aircraft. When the jumper is dropped, the pin will be pulled from the pack and the pack can opened on command".

I must admit I'm not too wild on the concept of not getting Big Dude powered up till after the drop starts.....but anyway .....when in Rome and all that!

I'm sure he won't mind answering your questions. One option is ordering a Safety and Sound Module from Paramax. Their address is: walter.krauss@t-online.de Web Site is http://www.paramax.de/

This device has two purposes, one to switch on the receiver when a static line is pulled from the module and the other is a trace signal in the event the jumper lands in a "bad place" Turn off the TX (Sender) and the signal starts to beep.

The other option is a pin on the back pack which prevents opening the pack until a static line removes the pin. In this case, the RX can be lurned on when on the ground.

Status: offline 		Perhaps include that as an internal unit with a pull string switch? *build the skydiver as normal, but include the safety powerup switches and have them internal, *unless this was already discussed* so that they might not take too much away from the general appearance of the model skydiver.

Many thanks for that. I see the switch-tube arrangement....but I'm struggling to work out what the second image is showing me.....I'll look again tomorrow when I've had some rest.

i am using both methods of safety.
first i used teh microswitch to turn off the jumper and have a safety line pull the pin. This line could be a electric wire you put in the tube.
This can bend all ways so it will pull all the times.
when you use a hard pin it sometimes sticks in the tube.

the one i use now is the safety pin on the backpack.
jumper is switched on all the time and the chute can only be opened when the pin is pulled.
this works best for me...

we had 2 chutes blown out when hanging under the jumpplane (ones without the safetypin in the backpack) and landing with the chute flapping behind the plane is no fun.....
it brakes like.......

but both landings were ok and no damage to the planes.

Thanks for that. I like the idea of using electrical cable for the pin.
Have you an image of the safety pin on the packpack please? At the moment it seems the best way but I am having difficulty imagining how to set it up?

Status: offline 		You'll want a curved pin similar to the pin on a full sized chute's main. As pressure is put on it, it self-aligns in a non-binding manner that assists in extraction. A straight pin, like on a reserve chute, is highly dependent on the direction the pull is coming from.



I imagine a bent piece of maybe .074 music wire with a little washer soldered/brazed on the end would do it.
