Ziroli Sport jet....The Turbinator!
Nick has a great new, all-wood sport jet designed for the 12-15 pound thrust class turbines. Span is 72", length is 80" and it weighs 21 lbs, dry. 1080 square inches of area, uses 6 channels with flaps and retracts.

Nick just officially released this one at the WRAM show, so it will probably be a while before someone has one flying. There is a company that will be offering ane ARF based on the Turbinator. All I can say is it's still in developement, but will be seen later this year.

I've been sitting on a set of plans for about a week, pretty slick plane.
I'm thinking of ordering the short kit of laser cut parts from Ziroli.
Since I'm not in an all fired up hurry, you guys got me thinking arf.

The ARF will not be identical to the plans as it will have a fiberglass fuse and have a few very minor changes to facilitate better mass production. Based on the quality I've seen on their other ARFs, you guys that wait will be really pleased. But for those who prefer to build, it's a typical Ziroli type build that should fly well, as all of Nick's designs do. I can't say more than that as I'm only familiar with someone who works for the company and am not sure how much they want known about the project at this time.

I also have a set of the plans and am getting a set of the parts from Nick as soon as they are ready hopefully I can get them at the Toledo Show. I think that there is just the one Nick built so far and I know he has a second one on the boards he had it at the WRAM Show showing off the construction of the plane to peole who wanted to see it in the bones. Nick worked most of the fall with me up here in Maryland on a new UAS so I got to see it from start to finish. He is also planning a smaller EDF one as well for sale.

I also posted this info on the reaction54 discussion page 61 as guys are now saying how much the turbinator resembles the reaction once they added the side intakes and a canopy. I don't think if you build a reaction like I have as per the kit they look anything alike.
Here is what I measured rounded off to the closest 1/2 "as differances between the two designs :
Reaction fuse at its widest and tallest cross section 5.5" X 8.5" this is at the wing LE , nose infront of the wing 30" ,tail between the wing and stab le 16",wing root cord 24" wing tip cord 15" span 80", stab root 15" stab tip 9" stab span 31"
Turbinator fuse section at widest and tallest cross section also at wing LE 7"w x 9" h not counting the canopy , nose ahead of wing 28" tail between wing and stab 18" wing root 20" std wing tip cord 10" extended section 9" std span 72" extended span 80" stab root 11" stab tip 6.5 "
I did not measure the fin and rudders but just as a rough guess the turbinator is larger by a small amount. I think I can get more fuel intot eh turbinator and wil be able to tell today as I am going to our LHS to get supplies to start the build.

I bought the plans and received them last week, I can't wait to start. Looking to the future I am planning on using this as a trainer. What is the largest turbine I could safely install in this plane. Since turbines are not cheap can someone give me a little guidance? Thanks!

I have just ordered the lasercut parts from BelAir here in the UK, and the plan looks brilliant - looking at the build sequence that came with the plan, it looks like the servos for elevators and for the rudder use fairly long pushrods/snakes as they are in the main area of the fuselage and not sitting near the surfaces. With the rudder I can understand this (probably then pull-pull), but I have my worries here with the elevators.
How are you linking your elevators? Should I be concerned about this linkage on a jet, seeing that all my aerobatic models like 30% Extra etc have the shortest elevator linkages possible?
Also: which turbine are you using? I was thinking of a JetCat P60 mainly because of low fuel consumption/area for tank available, although I would prefer an 80 size turbine as it would probably be more versatile for the following models, but i cannot see how to get a large enough tank into the model (or is it possible?)

JetCat is a great motor, but a bit thirsty compared to the Wren. IF on board fuel load is limited, go with the Wren.
