I have a Typhoon 2... it was my first plane ever... not exactly the best choice for a first plane, but im a very quick learner... I've always liked rc airplanes but thought it was too complicated, too involved, and the nearest field is 20 minutes away from my house... and in Florida 20 minutes is the difference between sunshine and a thunder storm...

I think horizon hobby is genius for their PNP's and RTF's... I since have purchased 9 more airplanes, and 2 helicopters... I wont go into a long story but i'd like to say that if the planes were only ARF's I would still be wondering if i should get one... the RTF pushed me over to try it, and i realized that flying them is only half the fun... i really enjoy working on them... I now own several ARF's... RTF's and PNP's are a great way for someone to get started in the hobby with little building... and i still fly my Typhoon 2 alot... i love that thing! If i totally destroyed it in a crash, i would go buy another immediately... its such a blast to harrier around the field... I havent put the SFG's on yet, but i think i will this weekend to see how it effects flight...

-Matt

Hey Everyone, airlandhobbies.com has the Parkzone Typhoon 3D PNP on clearance sale for only $69! They have the Typhoon2 3D PNP for $137! The only difference I can see between the 2 is the digital servos. At that crazy cheap price, are the digital servos really worth an extra $70? That is crazy cheap in my opinion. Just the motor and ESC would cost more then that buying them alone.
I have flown a supercub and am now flying a F4u Corsair from Parkzone with the Spektrum Dx5 radio system. Would this be a good 3rd plane for me?

I flew a Typhoon 2 today that a friend just bought from airlandhobbies. He is using ABF 2200 lipo, same as I use in my Corsair and T-28. I liked it enough I might get one myself if they don't run out of them for that price! I would say it could definitely be a good third plane if you like 3D flying. If you're good with the Corsair, you wont have any problem with the Typhoon. But it is a lot lighter, more responsive, and blows around in the wind a bit more than the Corsair. I had no problem flying it, but the 5mph wind made it float and balloon up quite a bit when I landed it. It can land pretty slow if you want it to. With a little more practice, I think I could probably fly it in a gym.

Does anyone know if you can mount sfg's on an old model Typhoon? ("Typhoon 1", I guess). I have a Typhoon 1 which I got with a few extra parts- wings, gearboxes, tails, etc., and I thought I would like to try sfg's is they are easy to mount, but I have not seen a Typhoon 2 close up to look at so I can't tell.

I like my Typhoon - it's very crude, bounces around in the wind, but it's gradually teaching me a few moves in between unscheduled trips to the ground.

Any ideas re. sfgs' would be welcome...thanks !!...Chris

check out picture 14, the black dots on the wing is where the screw's go through for attaching the sfg's.

also here's link to instruction manual for the typhoon 2, not show much but it may be of help.

Hey Typhoon owners!
Just letting everyone know that I just converted my Typhoon to have an Outrunner brushless motor and it is a VERY VERY easy conversion.... bought this motor http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=3883.. very very powerful as I did the initial throttle test, much more than stock and dont have to worry about those damn gears getting eaten up... heres some pictures of the newly built Typhoon

This looks really good. I have not managed to get more than 190 watts out of my Typhoon, even after changing the ESC. However, I have other planes with little outrunners such as a TowerPro 2409-18 (over 200 watts peak on 3S), or RC Smart 1050 (280 watts on 3S), so you should see an excellent improvement in performance. I see that commenters on Hobbycity show that they get well in excess of 200 watts with your new motor - you may have to go to a 10x4.7 or 11x4.7 to avoid over-propping though.

I look forward to hearing how it all goes !!

Wow! That's pretty good. You seem to anticipate its every move and also make up for the relatively delated motor and servo response that we have all (Typhoon owners) come to love.

Which Hobby City motor did you use?
I've been thinking about ordering a couple of their motors (480 equivalents) but been reading some bad news about them.

Ya I know I loved my stock motor...

thats my flying with the stock motor haha I love this plane

but I had a nasty crash and the motor blew apart and I tore up the firewall for the brushless I just didn't want to mess with it I think it was just a spur of the moment MAD sale. haha I'd buy another one in a second though whenever I get the money together

I hear you JD I probably did replace that gearbox upwards of 15 times haha... that HUGE prop doesn't help when it smacks the ground either! thats why I wanted to go to outrunner but wish I just bought the stocker and got it back in the air! I used to tear up the sky with the typhoon i miss it.. and now I dont have another 3D plane.. so ANYBODY have a foamie or a typhoon I have a Parkzone Micro Cessna I can trade and throw in some money

Ok, to be really honest, there is over $5,000 in my engine cabinet alone, not counting the electrics.  So what?  Figure I'v earned it at 74 and still kicking.  There is aso a Typhoon on the ceiling, red in color with swept leading edges which I suspect is the original offering.  Yes, it has HS 55s, a hacker motor and ESC and flys with 3S- 1350 lipos.  I was and still am impressed with the quality of the airframe and fit.   It flys, hovers and rolls as well or better than the PA Katana, AJ Extra or Hyperion Yak 54, all set up with recommended equipment.  The typhoon remains undamaged, Katana on its last re-build, AJ is fine, Yak still falls out of the sky, but no major damage.

They seem to have streightened the leading edge of the typhoon wing along with the SFG's which should improve elevators and similar type flight.  I have had no problems with the original design characteristics and still enjoy flying the original red thingy.   The Parkzone typhoon will cause me to try another of their products in the near future.  (as soon as I kill this one)  Can't say that about a lot of other manufacturers and designers out there.  But, still have and enjoy that old RCX planes "Illusion" thats really dusty right now.  ENJOYi

I just bought the parkzone typhoon 2 plug and play model and was wondering what type of battery should I get at my LHS for it? Also I am going to need a charger as well (since this is my first electric) and was wondering if anyone had a good suggestion. Thanks.

Check out the Zippy batteries at HobbyCity.com. I'm using the 2100mah's in most my planes and love them ($16/each). I would imagine that size should work find in the Typhoon. You can also look up the Turnigy Accucell6 there. They sell an adapter for it that lets you connect 2 batteries together so you can change 2 at once.

Shipping takes a while unless you choose an express option. I normally order quite a bit of stuff from them all at once. Their HXT 9g servos are good too, and only about $3/each.
