I just got my t2-3d together today, like a big dummy, my esc would not spin the motor so I grabed the front of the plane and started to jerk around with the servos, the the motor kicks on out of the blue and takes a chunck of my hand. got it working and trimmed, but one of my servos is whinning very loud how do you fix that?

Pcnutz,

Sorry about that. Ouch! I've heard fingers getting chopped off hopefully your digits are still intact.

Anyway, the whining happens to my Typhoon 2 3D as well. I hear it is normal for digital servos to whine. I learned this from reading the various forums on this plane and the consensus among owners of this plane.

Also, if you're gonna mess with your plane while its on, make sure the transmitter is on otherwise the receiver will pick up random signals otherwise, causing the motor to spin out of the blue and the servos to move randomly, too. I've experienced this enough times to know why it happens.

well somethin is quircky with my esc, I can turn it all on and no motor run, spin the prop by finger, I get arm tone from esc, and motors works walla. Went out today and wing seperates in mid flight barrel rolls. Down it comes, I was about 125 in the air so I got plenty of emotions as I watched it come down and just let go off the radio. HEHE serve me for not usen glue, so now I need a cowl and 2 side wings, rx box, and pin to hold down canopy, but I got in a glorious 5 min of glitch free fun

Two good flights today with the SFG's attached. It does fly better with the SFG's. More stable Knife-Edges and Hovers. It also tracks and lands better.
I tried the 12x8.75 prop and saw very little difference. In fact I think the 13.5x7 is better. If You run the Prop-Load Factor. Length X Length X the pitch.
They come out 12x8.75= 1260. and the 13.3x7= 1275.
I did find out that two LiPo charges drains my jumper pack. May have to use the car battery or my spare 12v pack.
It's fun to fly.. Not as much fun as the MoJo .40 glow but fun none the less.

cool thanks for sharing both of you. tom, how does the realflight model compare to actual flight? so so? it might take more flights to get a good feel for the flight characteristics in order to answer that i guess.

Also pcnutz, i never glued my wings together but your experience with the separating wings mid-flight makes me think twice.

I'm still waiting for the dx6i to arrive. in the meantime i've been thinking about what plane to buy next. leaning towards making one from scratch, like a fast EDF jet that I can paint military camouflage. my walmart has the krylon h20 spray paints on sale 40% off and this is in southern california so likely to be nationwide.

The simulator flight is very similar to the real thing. With and without the SFG's Maybe more so than most of my Glo Planes.
I put several Dayglo Red stars on the bottom of the plane so it was easier to tell the top from the bottom in the air.
Pictures to follow.

I have about 75+ flights on my typhoon 2 and I love it. I have a friend that bought one too, it was very glitchy, traded in to the hobby shop and got one that works fine.
I have also flown the Typoon 2 in G4 and agree that it flies similar, but not perfect.

This plane is hard to beat for the price. (if you get one of the good ones!)

Hi all,

I was fortunate to get my hands on the Spektrum DX6i this morning and when I hooked up the AR6200 receiver into my T2-3D all was fine for the 5 minutes I had it all hooked up. an hour later, i plugged in the battery to turn my plane on and lo and behold my propellor started spinning erratically, the motor overheated, the lipo overheated, and esc too. i was quick to catch it but if i waited a few more seconds i might have caught my plane on fire or atleast have severe smoke.

Anyone know what the deal is? I never had this problem with the stock radio system although I did have glitchy interference problems but nothing like this overheating issue.

also, should i dare use the motor again or should i send it in for replacement? how about the li-po do I dare use it again or do I absolutely need to replace it (it got really hot but no protrusion)?

How long did it go for? Did the propeller get stuck on something? Some ESC's have failsafe's where they turn the motor on to a specific throttle when they have no connection to the radio. If that is what happened then I'm surprised that it overheated anything, especially after only a few seconds. If you're not using one of the stock props then you should check to be sure you aren't over-propping it.

Depending on the ESC, you have to have the radio on BEFORE you plug the battery in. I always have my radio on with the throttle at 0 before plugging in the battery. I NEVER turn the radio off while the battery is plugged into the plane.

With my MUS and E-Flite ESC I made the mistake, before ever getting in the air, of turning the radio off with the battery in the plane and the ESC went to failsafe and the plane took off across the floor at me. The propeller broke on my leg and I got it stopped before doing any real damage.

If it was me, I'd at least try the equipment again before discarding it. If the LIPO didn't puff up then it should be fine. If the motor won't reach proper RPM then send it in for replacement. I recently had my PNP450 motor go bad. It wouldn't get to the proper RPM's at all. I tested it a few times for a few seconds and it wasn't detrimental to my ESC or battery.

Thanks sgf for your reply, again.

Sorry about your leg accident. I've had similar close calls.

Other than the new receiver it is all stock. The propellor didn't get stuck on anything (in fact it shouldn't have been moving because the transmitter was on and in idle position, so it wasn't the failsafe nor was it interference problems). the propellor was spinning erratically, like chugging along vibrating but not making smooth, consistent revolutions. come to think of it and i may be hallucinating but it was spinning the wrong direction. I don't know how you can explain all this because I didn't plug the EC3 connectors (battery -> ESC) reversely or anything.

There's one thing I noticed in the DX6i programming/settings like the EU (europe) and US (united states) power settings. By default, the DX6i is set up for EU power settings, but I changed to US. The manual doesn't really go into detail what the difference between EU and US settings are. I bought this thing in the United States and i live here, so I don't know if this caused my prob.

Maybe the problem is with the AR6200? I wonder... I mean none of these problems happened with stock radio system. Quite a mystery for now.

My best assumption is that you have an ESC problem. The Typhoon 2 comes with a brushless motor which has 3 wires, switching any two reverses the direction. Plugging in the battery opposite, assuming it was possible given your ESC connection, would likely fry the ESC but wouldn't cause the motor to go backward unless of course the ESC did that as a result of getting fried.

A bad motor would be unlikely to manifest itself without power from the ESC, which is why I think this points to an ESC problem. Although, the chugging/vibrating problem can be caused by a bad motor but under normal conditions you wouldn't see the problem until you throttled up. (The case with my recently dead PNP450)

If it were simply a problem with the receiver I think you wouldn't have seen the chugging/vibrating and instead the motor would have possibly varied RPM but smoothly as if you were moving the throttle up and down.

To eliminate the possibility of a radio problem I would suggest putting the original receiver back in for a test. If you get the same result then get yourself a new ESC. I have several Dynam ESC's. They are cheap and have worked just as well as my more expensive E-Flite ESC's.

My original E-Flite 22amp ESC was bad out of the box and upon trying it out for the first time it exhibited the same chugging/vibrating of the motor but I was able to still control the throttle.

It could be the ESC.

But what would cause the ESC to act up this late in the game? I mean while I've only flown twice, I turn on the plane and run the motors for a couple minutes every day for the past 3 weeks just for kicks. Something whether it be time (like a ticking time bomb maybe) set it off. I definitely didn't reverse the battery-ESC EC3 connectors, either.

I like your analysis of the situation. Thanks.
