GotSky -> Would You Want this Plane if NitroModels Built It? (3/24/2007 6:28:42 AM)

If NitroPlanes agreed to build a plane similar to this would you be interested in buying one? Size somewhere around 80" wingspan powered buy a 60 size engine in the nose. It could be sold in 2 versions 1. A replica of a major airlines or 2. Plane white so the consumer can chose what they want the end product to look like. Maybe if we can drum up enough interest in something like this they will build it? There is nothing in the market place like this in terms of prop driven airliners. So what do you say any takers out there? I’m down for 2 of them.

This would be very exciting; the larger the better. Put me down for 1 also.

opjose -> RE: Would You Want this Plane if NitroModels Built It? (3/24/2007 5:41:38 PM)

Yeah count me in.

So many planes so little time.

P 51 MAN -> RE: Would You Want this Plane if NitroModels Built It? (3/25/2007 2:07:32 PM)

I WOULD ORDER ONE ASAP !!!

cjtyped -> RE: Would You Want this Plane if NitroModels Built It? (3/25/2007 3:35:47 PM)

I feel I must add a qualifier before I say "yes"....i would hope that it would look a lot more scale than, say, the Cessna 310 by NP...not a putdown, but the main reason I didn't get the NP 310 was that it would take so much work to make it look more like one.

Gotsky,
If you can, (please) give us more information about the Emery jet in the pictures.
Thanks.

That would be friggin' awsome! I would buy it in a heartbeat!

LANNYBOB -> RE: Would You Want this Plane if NitroModels Built It? (3/29/2007 1:00:43 AM)

nope stupid

opjose -> RE: Would You Want this Plane if NitroModels Built It? (3/29/2007 2:41:04 AM)

Why is it "stupid"?

The example above looks pretty good.

cjtyped -> RE: Would You Want this Plane if NitroModels Built It? (3/29/2007 3:08:26 AM)

This was aa ARF kit way back in the late 60s, early 70s.
Wasn't really popular back then. Seems it came in Eastern Airlines colors. Took a .60; at the time the 60 was considered just about the largest rc airplane engine.
I do not remember the kit maker, but would recognise it in a multiple choice quiz. It was American made.
It was a good flying airplane.
That's all I can cme up with.

Cityped,
Thanks for the information. Do you have any idea how to track down plans to build a kit ?
Michael

cjtyped -> RE: Would You Want this Plane if NitroModels Built It? (3/29/2007 3:52:31 PM)

Being an ARF, I doubt there ever were any plans. Seems the name Sherline comes to mind as the manufacturer.

GotSky -> RE: Would You Want this Plane if NitroModels Built It? (3/30/2007 3:52:13 AM)

Well we should know shortly if NitroModels is going to take on this project... I gave them all the specs that it needs to meet.. Lets hope It happends.

GotSky -> RE: Would You Want this Plane if NitroModels Built It? (3/30/2007 4:03:20 AM)

The airliner ARF was released in the mid 70's. It had an 82" wingspan and had around a 76" fuselage length. It was powered by a 60 size 2 stroke. They were not set up for retracts or flaps. --Of course I asked that those be included or optioned on a new version--- The market was not real big for them at the time of release so there were only a few out there and I'm sure even fewer still flying now --if any-- All radio gear was in the tail due to the long nose. I am hoping with today’s LASER CUT wood and CAD tech. that the new ARF version would look incredible and be very light as well. I'm sorry I can not recall the company that built them

GotSky -> RE: Would You Want this Plane if NitroModels Built It? (3/30/2007 4:22:37 AM)

Check out the scratch built one. It used a OS 91FX pusher in the tail

opjose -> RE: Would You Want this Plane if NitroModels Built It? (3/30/2007 4:23:04 AM)

Add fowler flaps and retracts and O-My-Gosh!

HL has a set of simulated fowler hinges that would be suitable.

SunShyne -> RE: Would You Want this Plane if NitroModels Built It? (3/30/2007 6:51:02 PM)

I would suggest making it a pusher wiht the engine hidden in the tail. WOuld make it look a bit more scale.

The idea is great but the prop and muffler in the nose ruin the appearance of an otherwise outstanding idea.

good luck with it!

opjose -> RE: Would You Want this Plane if NitroModels Built It? (3/31/2007 12:15:06 AM)

I can imagine a pusher being very problematic with the way the tail angles back. The engine would have to hang well back to clear the rudder.

It would be great if the engine could be hidden, but I would suspect that the nose mount is both simpler and less obtrusive as far as breaking up the body lines.

In flight the prop "disappears" as it does with the PTS F-22, leaving only the muffler to deal with ( Pitts or cowl mounted mufflers would help this .).

tommytorino -> RE: Would You Want this Plane if NitroModels Built It? (3/31/2007 4:44:34 PM)

Not my cup of tea... no thanks. Outstanding model mind you, just not something I'm into.

GOTSKY,
I WOULD ORDER ONE (ASAP) ONLY IF IT IS LIKE THE EMERY JETLINER SHOWN IN THE PICTURES, (BUT MODERN-QUALITY, LASER CUT, FIBERGLASS NOSE AND TAIL, ETC.). ENGINE IN THE NOSE, THE SIZE DESCRIBED ABOVE. WOULD LIKE IT IF IT CAME IN SOLID WHITE. RETRACT READY WOULD BE NICE!
WAITING TO ORDER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[8D]
the 727 model in the photo you showed, was manufactured by Paul Sherlock of california. His company produced several different models The 727 was one the second was a learjet and the third was az 707. all were prop powered. they were made of injection moldedplastic over foam. The only problem with them was that they never caught on. flynavy

[:-]I JUST FOUND AN ADD FOR SHERLOCK MODELS WITH A PICTURE OF THE LEARJET. THE SPECTS ARE 57"LONG WS IS 55" WITH A WEIGHT OF 7.5 TO 8 POUNDS. THE FUSE WAS FULLY ASSEMBLED AND ALL SPECIAL LINKAGES WERE INCLUDED. ALL FOR THE OUTRAGIOUS PRICE OF 79.50! FLYNAVY

ram3500-RCU -> RE: Would You Want this Plane if NitroModels Built It? (7/2/2007 4:25:20 AM)

Given todays technology, it would seem possible to produce a more realistic version with, say, EDF fans or similar, and do away with the tractor piston engine up front, although I think the way they did it was ingenious for the day. I was into RC in the 70s but don't remeber this plane. Can't see how I missed it.

I have always thought it would be cool to have a fleet of commercial airliners all in the same scale.
