What motor is best? I have tried the amo motor they recomend on the box. It was all right I guess but I was Learning then and did not realy get in to 3d. After that I tried the align 430L. It had a lot more rpm than the amo but less power. What should I go with next?

Oh, that's a loaded question that will get lots of opinons . My MX has a JGF 500TH set up for 4S batteries. It provides as much power as the helicopter can handle.

JGF is JustGoFly, www.justgofly.com, or Helidirect also carries some of their motors. The Scorpion HK 2221-08 is also worth a consideration- it uses more juice, but it's that tad bit more powerful, too. I don't have one in the MX, but I do have one in a MiniTitan and it cooks . Got that one from neoplanes.com.

[edit] Oh, and yes, the JGF works great on 3S, I just like lots of power. Odd company name, but they have good products and the guy that owns it is a RC guy, too . [/edit]

Hi guys,

Is the MX450 XS discontinued? I looked at the "Tower Hobbies" sight and it shows it discontinued.... Any other sights that might have the HeliMax MX 450 XS in stock? The Heli-Max sight does not show the Helicopter out of production, what gives? thanks

You can buy the ARK 450 from the manufacturer (http://www.arktaiwan.com.tw/), but Tower and GrandRC were the only U.S. places that I knew of, and GrandRC's price was pretty high anyway. HeliMax rebranded the ARK X450-XS as the MX450; since ARK isn't going anywhere, and the MX leaving gives HeliMax nothing in the 4x0 size, there's a lot of conjecture about what comes next.

I ordered one and a week later they say it is discontinued.........

I will fly it as long as I can get parts for it. Mine is almost ready to fly. I am just waiting for the JB weld to cure on the tail rotor link. I went with a boom mount for the servo so I needed to shorten the link. I tried to solder it but none of the three type of solder will stick. I will replace most of the metal push rod with corbon tube next week. I have three days and the hobby shop is 50 miles each way.

I will pick up some servo to replace the HS-55 next week too.

I made carbon pushrods for my MX' usually. Be careful that you keep the links in good order if you don't use guides, though- if they come off the pushrod can get into the blades.

Parts for the MX shouldn't be a problem for a while, and even if they start to dry up, there are any number of subassemblies (head, tail, frames, so forth) that people customize with - by the time you can't fix it you'll probably have moved on to something else.

I have read this fourm from the beginning. It is sad to see somone forget where thy came from. I also have T-REX Nitro PRO. I still have't fogot my 450xs. I would never discurage anyone from any heilcopter. It is about the sport, not the money or skill. With that being said. There are over 100 web sites that still seel the 450xs, so I don't think you have to worry about parts and upgrades. The MX 400 Pro Has been Discontinued. If Tower doesn't sell it it, it is unavailable. With the resent bad mouthing of the 450, form somone who forgot were they started from, it is still a really good heli that performs very well and is crazy with upgrades. All helis need upgreats. Just remember, as your skill improves, so will the qaulity and size of your helicopter. The 450xs is still a 30 size or mico heil. Keep that in mind. For those of us who still fly and learn with the 450xs. Hopfully we don't forget where we started and that we are not super arobatic pilots. The 450xs is just what we expected and more. We read and learn from this foum to better our skills an knolage. Hopfully to make us better pilots. If this is not your favorite heli any more. Please keep your comments about the 450sx to your self.

Please resist the urge to curse, flame, degrade, insult or embarrass someone in your post. We encourage the free flow of your ideas, but believe that they can be communicated (and received) much more effectively if you keep things civil. If you have to vent, take it offline. I have a question concerning pitch angles. I have seen all the suggested pitch curves that have been suggested on here and I am curious as to what the angles, in degrees, you guys are getting. Can anyone please give me thier pitch angles?

Thanks,
David

+/- 9 or 10 degrees is good for the 450. You can run it as high as 12, but at a lower head speed it takes a lot of power to drive that, and at a higher speed you don't need it.

I had something very unexpected happen over the weekend. I was tracking the stock blades on my 450 when I heard a pop and fiberglass flew everywhere. The heli then flipped over and proceeded to bend the flybar shaft, feathering spindle, break the canopy mounts, and the landing gear, and strip the gears in one of the servos. While vacuuming up all the fiberglass out of my carpet, I found a big chunk of lead in the floor. Come to find out, that loud pop I heard was one of the blades slinging a lead weight out it. Contacted Heli Max and they told me there was nothing they could do about the situation. Now I have to order about a hundred dollars worth of parts from Tower.

Has anyone else ever had or seen this happen before?
