I just finished my Aeroworks 100cc Yak. What a great plane. I have been very pleased. Just did the maiden flight today. Plane has a DA 100, Smart Fly Power Expander EQ 10, two Fromco 7.4 for power and one on the ign. Hitec 5985s all around and a 5955 on rudder. Has a Slimline smoke system in it. Here are some pics. I really like it. I beefed up the langing gear just to be safe after reading all the posts.

With the tank mounted next to the wing tube, where are the batteries ending up? Are they on the engine box with a DA-100 or in just in front of the tank?

Richard,
With a DA-100, my 2 4800 mAh Fromecos started on the rear of the receiver tray. This still left the CG still a little far forward. I would suggest that you mount them on the same tray as the Rudder Pull-Pull servos. For IMAC, you will want the plane to be hands off on an inverted 45 degree up line. With this CG I need no mixes in the plane.

Thanks for the information Steve, hopefully the DA motor is sitting on my doorstep and I can get ready to maiden this Yak.

Guys,

My plane came out NOSE HEAVY with a smoke pump. Where is your CG for pure 3d flying? I moved a few things around and i am ending up around 3 5/8. I have not test flown with the new cg yet. Should i still move more weight to the rear?

Hey Bobby, how are you doing. Sunday I will Maiden my 100cc Yak, My 3W 100 isn't putting out the R's I would expect (5900 with a Mej 27x10), but it pulls hard on the ground. I gonna go for it anyway, but I really have concerns about that long-ass gear, looks like a med hard landing will tear it off. I reinforced it with maple blocks against the fuse sides, anymore probs with your gear?

Thanks
Frank

Hey Frank, the gear is very springy and with a hard "flap" down landing it will bounce a bit and may spread ot a bit. The good side is that it's easy to bend back. Their literature says that the gear is made out of 7075 aluminum which I think is the springy stuff and not the hard to bend stuff. I have flown on some fairly rough ground with no roblems.

Good luck and let me know how the maiden turns out.

Bobby

Thanks Bobby, I actually do feel a bit more confident after hearing about the springyness of the gear. I'll let you know of the maiden

Thanks again
Frank

Yo Bobby Folsom, I maidened the Yak on Sun, flew awesome. The older 3W 100 I have just ain't cutting it, I can only get 5900 with a 27X10 Mej, probably would be better with a 26x10. I have a 106 coming, which I hope will spin up that 27X10 Mej. No rudder authority servos too weak, 8611's coming, same with the ail. servos, she rolls quick at a low speed, but high speed real slow. What a hobby!

airega1 : I'm glad the maiden went well. Once you get the new servos, you will find that the AW Yak performs very well. I have campaigned mine all season and only recently discovered that I didn't have enough elevator throw!! An unknown had a reverse goldfish, the wind was blown pretty hard and I just didn't have enough elevator throw to push on around to a 45 degree upline so I had to roll out!! Bummer. But, that wasn't the Yak's fault.

Enjoy.

Bobby

Hey Bobby,

We ran the new DA-100 last night - getting ready for the maiden on the 100cc Yak Saturday at the Chula Vista field.

I found I am short 8 of the 4x40 bolts and rubberized washers for the horizontals and the canopy hold down. I can make some temporary screws, could you throw some in the mail for me.

Thanks,

-Richard Felkins.
