roysterDW-- the stock tank is fine but the dubro has a flat bottom so it's just a little easier to mount, also the dubro is on

ounce lighter. So far that's the only thing in the kit that I haven't used. The stock hardware is pretty good IMO.

Thanks Fredstyle!

I'm going with similar servos but Futaba only cause I have discount vouchers from Tower

What size Du-Bro tank did you buy and is it plumbed as a 3 line or 2 line system?

I'll try and post some pics of mine as well.

No prob-- I'm thinking 3 line with the 12 oz tank, and the hangar 9 fuel dot... I'm in uncharted territory- my only building is with

electric arf's, no fuel lines to worry about!!!! Got the cowling cut out now just have to deal with the fuel sys plumbing...

I just wanted to give you guys a heads up on your build. Before you go much further you might want start really thinking about how you are going to get this plane to balance out. I put a saito 150 i mine and i am nose heavy with a 35 oz engine. Your engine acording to peak models is 50.71oz. Have you guys thought of how this plane is going to balence? When you do get your cg issue sorted out i will tell you that this is one of the best flying planes i have ever flown. You will definetly love it! I wish you the best of luck with your build.

fredstyle - Thanks for the pics! Keep em comin!

I'll post some up as soon as I get my digi cam back off my wife

Nice job on the cut out of the cowl. Not sure if a rear dump would have made any difference but the side dump most certainly is going to allow more air to flow over the engine.

Did you have any probs mount the engine with the supplied mounts. Heard from one guy saying they were tooo short and he had to cut some of the box away. I rather not do that and weaken the plane.

Thanks for the heads up!!! I was thinking all the batteries as far aft as possible, maybe make a tray if need be... behind the rudder servo.

Royster-- No problem at all with the stock stand offs, they sent me nice template that was a piece of cake to mount. I reinforced the

firewall with 1/8" dowel on the sides as well as adding triangle stock to the front, then just went ahead and hit all the joints with 30

min epoxy just to be safe. As circman pointed out the 40cc is a bit heavier than the 26cc but only a few ounces more than the evo 26

I've got on a 50" ultimate.

Hey Rich

CG is always on my mind when I build. According the latest Airplanes News 70% of maidens end up in crashes due to poor CG.

Bare in mind the G26 is a heavier motor than our SPE40, but I'll be keeping an eye on nose weight.

I guess we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. Also this is not the first time a SPE40 has been put into a Peakmodel Extra. Its been done by even the deisgner Paul Xu.

Cheers

Slightly nose heavy is preferable than otherwise as far as CG is concerned in my experience.

Yep, I agree. I had a Sukhoi SU-31 and was meant for a .46 but I installed a 55AX and it was a tad nose heavy but she flew well once it was balanced.
Gimme nose heavy over tail heavy any day of the week

One thing you could do if your having balancing problems, is cut the stand-offs down a bit to move the engine further backwards, even trim the cowl so it is a bit shorter if need be, bore a hole right through them and use a longer m4 bolt, thats what i've done with the Peak 26cc. But I would finish the install first and see how nose heavy first, then experiment with the mount. I think the CG should be 133mm back from the leading edge of the wing at the fuse for the plane to fly at it's best.

Thanks Stew

I just tried the alloy stands offs and they are short!! The muffler hits the firwall.

I guess I may have to go with a rear dump muffler cause no way am I butchering up the airframe.

Interesting some guys have had no problems. Mmmmm a small email to Peak Model I thinks

The reason I went with dual elevators is for balance, bigger motor so a little more tail weight. here's the progress so far:

Did those stand offs come with the kit?

They look longer than mine as mine hits the firewall, long by about 8mm.

The standoffs came with the kit, as well as the "newer" ignition that reads 4.8-18v. Honestly my main concern is the motor itself... all's i've read is that these are hit or miss. It fired and ran on the test bench but i'm not big on running it for long without cooling air over the motor. I know this opens a whole new can of worms but does anyone have time with this motor???

Yep Cermark who are also speengine.com and also BCMAengines.com but they may not sell you one unless you bought the engine from them.

I have emailed Cermark to see if they can supply. Keep ya posted

So fredstyle you got the longer stand off with your Extra260 25% with a SPE40, correct?

I spoke with Way from Peak (via Messenger) and he told me they are short because the plane is supposed to have a 26cc. I said it would have been nice to tell customers that it aint gonna fit when they order a 40cc!! Derrr.

Yeah so now I have to have a look at options on mounting the engine.

Not sure if the rear dump muffler work until I get one and try and fit it, UNLESS there is someone on this forum that can tell us all that it will fit without hacking into the airframe.

Cutting that corner off just doesn't cut it for me Na seriously it will weaken the plane and that motor needs all the support it can get. IMO

Yes that is correct the stand-offs came with the combo, ordered it off the peak website as the 40cc combo... maybe it was one of those hit or miss items i mentioned earlier. The only thing i've decided to change has been the fuel tank, and that was just by a buddy who recomended it. the motor even came with a 40cc template!!! How long ago did u order your kit??? Mine was shipped direct from China in one box.

Mine arrived as quoted 5 days!! Good packing with no damage to any parts. ALthough I have and engine that wont mount to my firewall due to wrongly supplied mounts. Hopefully getting sorted out soon.

Covering was perfect not like my new E-Flite Mini Funtana X with wrinkles everywhere.

Hello RoysterDW!

Why don't use rubber spacers / spring like this. [picture below] A bit more weight to the front, but less vibration to the aircraft.

Steve, RoysterDW thanks for the answers.

Nope no good. For one anything with a spring it will change the vector as I was told by large scale pilots and yes the CG will be even harder to attain.

I will try and buy a rear dump muffler and see if that works out.

I would rather mod the muffler than the airframe.

Worst case I have another set of stands offs custom made for me.

Thanks for the idea.
