Roy, you may cut the corner of the box provided you reinforce it with an addition strut at the appropriate location like what i did. After adding the strut, it is wise to apply some sort of epoxy layer or fibre reinforced plastic to the entire engine mounting box for rigidity. I ve done mine this way and had flown the model for the last 2 months and nothing happened.

Thanks

Do you have any pics of what you have done? Also you didn't want to use the rear dump muffler?

I am still trying to get hold of a rear dump from BCMA or Cermark but none are replying to my emails

How did you guys install the taillwheel?

Do you have to bend the wire into the rudder and glue?

OK took the plunge and cut the firewall.

Not as bad as I thought it would be.

A friend who's been in the hobby since the ark will help me reinforce the engine bay and make it stronger.

Now I need to cut the cowl.

Does anyone have any tips on how they do it?

Sorry so long since the last the post... cutting the cowl is a practice in patience. That was my first cowl cut so i put the cowl up to the
motor marked it on the outside then started with the dremel tool a little at a time. I'm sure that there is a faster way but just took my
time. The tail wheel yeah... make sure you put the little collar on BEFORE you bend it or you won't be able to get it on. Even after
mine was bent it was still not flush with the bottom of the fuse so had to make a small spacer to fill the gap where it screws in to the
fuse. This is how I went about the fuel tank install added some tri stock then made a small shelf to mount the tank on. Hope that helps.

Roy!

I would ask you, what king of material is the stock muffler made from?
It's iron or aluminium or other kind of metal alloy?

Thanks

Roy!

On the 30th page of the YAK-54 manual are pictures step by step of the cowl installation. I know it's not the same airframe but you can use the same method.

Best regards

aluminium!

I was even going to go to a motorcycle exhaust shop to make me a new muffler but decided that was going overboard.

I am sure it will be fine the way it is. Too bad I never got hold of that pitts style muffler. Like trying to find needle in a hay stack and delaers dont return emails

Hello Steve!

The 26cc rear dump muffler can be used for the 40 cc engine?

I've found on the site, only the muffler for SPE-26 engine.

Dont ya hate that.
Those guys at BCMA are poor on service. I have sent 7 emails requesting stuff and they have only replied twice. The last email I got said they were out of stock hence why I went ahead and cut the firewall.

Cermark is even worse they don't reply at all. Wouldn't buy a thing of them!

Anyway at the end of the day it means nothing in flight performance, its just bling!

to people using 40cc on this plane:

please let us know how you will balance it to get the correct CG. I'm planning to get the 40cc combo also.

I have the combo with peak 26cc. Mine is nose heavy. CG at around 25%MAC. I may have to cut off my stand off to adjust the cg. my receiver, receiver batt and BEC is already way back the fuselage. However, m only using 1 elevator servo.

my setup:

JR 770s
algin 6A bec
1200mah lipo for receiver
1100mah nicd for ignition
3 - 3305
2 - 9405 ( ailerons )

Worst case will be to add lead at the very end of the tail, but that is worse case. ARF how make it have put a 40 in it and if see the video it flies very well and 3Ds great.

Put your ignition bat as well as your RX bat in the rear as well!

I did put both batteries at the back but I had interference coming from the ignition due to the long battery wire to the back. But it turned out that the real cause of the interference is the spark plug cap not properly seated to the spark plug. The plug cap should be pushed all the way touching the engine ( covering all of the spark plug ) unlike the zenoah style plug caps.

Anyway, I'll try to put the ignition battery way back again and see if I will have some interference.

And also, my engine came with a chinese spark plug named jen feng or something. Did yours came with a chinese one or NGK or champion?

Yep mine too, came with a Champ resistor plug.

Make sure you replace it with a resistor plug!

Has anyone got any pics of their internal bay?

I need to get some ideas how and where you guys are placing stuff. I definitely need to make up a couple of ply trays for gear.

Also did everyone use the stock fuel tank?

I have seen someone use a Du-Bro as it had a flat bottom. The stock does have flat sides but it wont slide under the wing tube. So I am wondering how critical it is to have it directly under that tube?
