kooljb -> Yak 54 3D 50 size (3/26/2007 8:23:01 AM)

Hello I just purchased the yak 52 (54) 50 size. The problem I have is I went to install the stab in the tail section and found that the stab wont fit in the cut out on the fuse. the fuse cutout on the fuse is 3/8 to short and looking at the manual the stab hole is not like that of the pics in the manual. Also the stab cutout looks different then all of the other planes that I have built and I don't understand why this one is like this. Here is a drawing of the cutout. So is this the old design or the NEW!!! Reinforced fuselage and Tail. Also why is the stab to big to go all the way into the tail section. Is this a manufactoring defect or something or have I just wasted my money on this plane.

The more I look at the fuselage the more I think its not the right one. Even though I just got the plane I think its either an old version or maybe the fuse from the electric version. So its getting boxed back up and now for the hard part trying to get it returned and getting another plane. I guess thats what I getting buying a cheap plane that looks nice from a cmpany I know nothing about. My bad

Eh, most of the planes have small retaining blocks in the back that you must cut or remove.

I don't have this model so I can't tell you for certain, but this may account for the difference you are seeing.

The block is there to protect the tail from damage in shipment.

Here is a few pic of what I'm talking about for those that dont understand.

Yup it looks like you still have the tail retaining block in place.

How about a picture from the back just to be sure?

Removing the tail retaining block will fix this.

opjose Sorry but I dont understand what your talking about. What part do you want me to remove and how do I do it. Do I have to cut the coating to remove this and If so I didnt see anything in the box to replace it with. Also is this the old version or the NEW!!! Reinforced fuselage and Tail their claiming on their website.
Thanks kooljb

It doesn't look like anything is wrong.

Look at the picture where you have the horizontal stab partially inserted.

If you were to extend the stab on backwards (or maybe forward?), e.g. cutting along it's upper and lower surface to the rear of the plane, the line(s) which would be described is the "block" that you must remove.

This is typical for ARF's.

However just to be sure, take a picture from the BACK of the plane fuselage instead of from the side.

This will allow us to see the block itself.

Basically you are going to remove the covering and wood that extends on back to the edge of the tail.

Once it's remove the stabilizer will have plenty of room to slide in place.

Okay I'm not at home right now so I will take a picture tomorrow and post it. But what will I use to close up that big old that you can see in the pics just above the stab. I know that can't be right.

opjose -> RE: Yak 54 3D 50 size (3/27/2007 12:18:02 AM)

Isn't that hole to allow for the movement of the cross brace or wire between the two stabilizers?

Hmm, maybe not, it would have to be balanced by an equal area under the stab.

Looking at your pictures again, it would seem that the fuselage may need a bit of balsa cut at the front where the stab goes in to permit it to fit.... but then there is that hole... maybe to be covered by the vertical stab once it's in?

How does the manual's picture show this assembly?

Shoot an e-mail to admin@nitroplanes.com and point him to this thread and pictures.

Bandit -> RE: Yak 54 3D 50 size (3/27/2007 12:28:14 AM)

I believe you are trying to use the wrong slot. Look at the slot directly below where you are trying.. I pulled mine out of the box to check in case there was indeed a problem with these kits necessitating the kit be returned. The slot under the one you're trying to use matches the horizontal stab's dimensions exactly and it (the slot I'm looking at) has a small "pip" where the elevator joiner wire goes through. I measured the slot to be sure and the horizontal stab dimensions match.

Hope this helps,

Rick
